Editorial page editor Cindi Ross Scoppe of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper has been dead wrong so many occasions that this website has taken to calling her “Pippi Wrongstockings.”

Of course Pippi’s never screwed the pooch quite like she did this week – when her newspaper endorsed former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman’s 2012 presidential campaign (only to have Huntsman drop out of the race hours later).

Now … in all its unfiltered glory … here is Scoppe’s response to Huntsman’s decision:

It is rather like having gone through a courtship for some period of time and finally making love with a man, for him to suddenly turn around and say, ‘you know what, I think I’m gay.’

Um … wow. Thanks so much for that visual, Pips.

“Moderates” in South Carolina shouldn’t be alarmed, though … Scoppe’s left-leaning rag will be announcing its second endorsement (of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney) any day now.

In the meantime, if you’d like to read an endorsement offered from the heart – one that didn’t wind up being the “kiss of death” to a presidential campaign – click on the link below to read our endorsement of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.
