This website has made no bones about its disdain for Texas Gov. Rick Perry … repeatedly deriding him as the latest in long line of big government crony capitalists whose record is starkly at odds with his rhetoric.
Of course that doesn’t make him any different from most “Republicans,” which is one reason our nation finds itself in such dire fiscal straits.
During Wednesday night’s GOP presidential debate in Michigan, however, we actually felt sorry for Perry.
How come?
Well, during an exchange with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul – whose budget-cutting plan would eliminate five federal agencies – the one-time GOP frontrunner boasted that he would get rid of three agencies upon arriving in Washington, D.C.
The only problem? Perry couldn’t remember which agencies he wanted to get rid of …
“I’ll tell you: it’s three agencies of government, when I get there, that are gone: Commerce, Education and, the –uh — what’s the third one there? … Commerce, education and the uh, the uh…”
“The EPA?” Ron Paul offered.
“EPA, there you go.” Perry responded.
Pressed by the debate’s moderator to name the third agency, Perry’s rumbling, bumbling and fumbling continued.
“The third agency of government I would do away with — Education, the, uh, Commerce, and let’s see — I can’t. The third one, I can’t. Sorry. Oops.”
Here’s the clip …
Wow …
Fifteen minutes later, Perry’s brain fart ended.
“By the way, that was the Department of Energy I was reaching for a while ago,” he said.
At that point the damage had already been done, though. In fact, Perry’s stumble was so bad that many commentators immediately declared his presidential aspirations officially kaput.
“Perry is now a dead man walking,” wrote Mark McKinnon of The Daily Beast. “He’ll go through the motions to save face, but he won’t get a single new voter. And he will quickly lose the ones he had. Once they’re laughing at you, you’re finished.”
“We never say never in politics but at first glance it’s hard to see how Perry recovers from what happened on the Michigan debate stage,” wrote Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post.
“To my memory, Perry’s forgetfulness is the most devastating moment of any modern primary debate,” tweeted veteran political analyst Larry Sabato.
Ouch …
After the debate Perry acknowledged as much.
“I’m glad I had my boots on tonight,” Perry said, adding that “I stepped in it out there.”

LoL!
Perry, a typical republickan intellectual powerhouse.
The republicks have given 2012 to Obama flirting with these unelectable loons. Hopefully the tea baggies are revived in Obama’s last term so a whole other crop of loonies poison any chance for repukes gaining ground in 2016.
These debates are comedy gold!!

Perry can go back to Texas and know he had his 15 minutes…..
Cain needs to come up with more than his “bold” plan as an answer for every issue.
Paul is correct on many issues, but very out of touch on others.
Bachman can join Perry in the 15 min club.
Newt is just an asshole. Always has been. Its why his career ended years ago.
Santorum and Huntsman are not worth mentioning.
Romney is the only decent candidate. He is calm and never gets flustered. I don’t mind that he is called a flip-flopper. Real people with intelligence know that sometimes you do change your mind.
Mitt is the GOP’s only chance.

Perry screwed up, but the unemployment rate is still miserable w/ no end in sight. Houses are worth a fraction of the value, w/ none selling. Inflation is out of control. Consumer onfidence is abysmal and the mood of the nation is depressed…
Not sure who is going to fix it…but if you are for Obama, you look very Un-American.
While it is uncertain who the GOP nominee will be….it is CERTAIN Obama is an Abject Failure. America is sick, and Obama is the disease…

There is a difference between a military academy ring and a ring from most any other university.
The ring from a military academy signifies much more than you passed Econ 201. It means you went to an institution that invokes honor as well as education.
But the other rings from other institutions are merely chunks of overpriced gold from overpriced universities issuing over-valued degrees.
By Robert November 10, 2011 at 10:52 am
And yes, Perry did graduate from Texas A&M (with 2.5 GPA) with degree in animal science. He was in the Corp of Cadets. Not sure how a 2.5 gpa stood up in the corp.
Then he goes to Air Force and becomes Captain due to his college service. But only serves his one tour.
Sorry, I’m not overly impressed.

Honor? Shall we start a list of names of The Citadel graduates? I will start with Thomas Ravenel. Your turn.

Only a credulous fool continues to believe the zombie lie that the Community Reinvestment Act was responsible for the financial collapse in the housing market. That has been debunked by every analysis, yet it survives in the alleged minds of Obama-haters.
Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was directly subject to the CRA, which has been in existence since 1977. If the CRA was responsible, why didn’t the crisis occur sooner?
Thanks to decades of financial deregulation, capped by President Bush’s decision to appoint Wall Street regulators who believed their job was to help banks rather than curb banking abuses, financial giants were able to turn the mortgage market into a high-stakes casino. As Congress’ Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission has shown, it was deregulation mixed with irresponsible and potentially illegal practices by private firms on Wall Street that caused both the bubble and the collapse.
But, some commenters here will never wise up.

Firstly, I am not a Citadel graduate. I would never have made it there. I was not Citadel material because I had a problem with authority, I would fight at the drop of a hat, and I drank beer like it was water. I would not want to cast a shadow over this fine institution by having people falsely think I was ever a Cadet there.
So you can see why spelling is not my forte, although I remember what one of our colorful presidents, Andrew Jackson, once said. He said he never thought much of a man who could only think of one way to spell a word.
If you ever attend a graduation at the Citadel you will find the Cadets that chose a military career are wearing their bars on graduation day, just as the Cadets at West Point. Every graduating Cadet from these schools may not always act honorably, but it is not because these institutions did not try to instill the qualities that would make them honorable men.
By CNSYD November 10, 2011 at 12:47 pm
Mr. Dixie, growing up in Charleston I am familar with The Citadel. As a very young person I thought they were all in the military and they were all commissioned upon graduation. Only when I became older did I find out that was not true. Another revealation for me was to find out that in the main the instructors were not in the military either. I, as a young person, was thrown off by the fact they wore military uniforms and had “rank”. Only later did I learn, from Citadel cadets, that they were SCUM, as in South Carolina Unorganized Militia. I should have been clued in by those instructors who were very obese.
I have had my views of The Citadel tempered by their treatment of VADM Stockdale. Stockdale spent 7 1/2 years as a POW in Vietnam and was awarded the Medal of Honor. He butted heads with the Board of Vistors over hazing. You know the hazing they say doesn’t exist but does (see Lords of Discipline). Stockdale thought it was total BS and they ran him off after a year on the job. That doesn’t sound very “honorable” to me.
By Rick Perry November 10, 2011 at 12:55 pm
Dear American:
Okay, lookit, there are three things I forgot to mention last night.
Firstly, you should never drink before a debate. Right after that danged thing was over I had to stick my head in the porcelain throne and that lawn gnome Ron Paul had to hold my hair. This morning my head hurts like it was hit with a hammer in one of those movies with Larry, Curly, and… Larry, Curly, and what’s the other one? Ah, shit.
Now here’s B: the American people have to decide what’s worse, forgetting which agencies you plan to get rid of or forgetting which ladies you tried to nail when you were running the National Restaurant Association. I can tell you this, if somebody asked me if I remembered who I’d sexually harassed I could sure as shit tell you their names. But please don’t ask me that.
And finally, number 3: what the hell was number 3 again? I’ve got it on the tip of my tongue. Nope, I’ve lost it. Oops.
Vote for me,
Rick Perry
