Remember those “Wounded Warrior” jerseys that the University of South Carolina was supposed to wear against Auburn on Saturday?
Yeah … that didn’t happen.
During warm-ups, the SEC officiating crew told Gamecock coaches that the numbers on the specialty jerseys were too hard to read. As a result, South Carolina was forced to switch to its black home jerseys – which the Gamecocks haven’t worn in nearly three years.
South Carolina wound up losing to Auburn 16-13.
Over the past two seasons, the Gamecocks have worn garnet jerseys and pants almost exclusively – and with good reason. The one and only time they wore black last season – on the road against Kentucky – they lost.
Carolina also wore black “Wounded Warrior” jerseys at home against defending national champion Florida in 2009 – another loss – and wore black pants on the road against Georgia and Alabama (both losses).
So … are black jerseys bad luck for USC? No … but our offense is.
