S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s mandatory new telephone greeting was mocked by South Carolina “progressives” on Wednesday.
S.C. Forward Progress – a group of liberal operatives which formed in advance of the 2012 presidential primary election – made fun of Haley’s “It’s a great day in South Carolina” greeting with a viral web video.
“It’s not a great day in South Carolina,” the video states after cycling through a host of depressing statistics, “and simply saying it is won’t make it so.”
The ad concludes by telling Haley that “it’s time to put up or shut up.”
Here’s the clip …
Obviously, the producers’ contention that “(SC) schools haven’t been fully funded for years” is complete and total bullsh*t.
In the state’s current record-setting budget (which Haley approved nearly every penny of), South Carolina public schools are funded to the tune of $11,754 per student.
That’s a record …
Other than this flagrant misstatement of the facts, though, it’s a pretty solid hit.

I had to laugh at the front page headlines in The State today…On one side of the paper above the fold the headline reads, “Income down, poverty up” and on the other side the headline reads, ‘It’s a great day in South Carolina’. Way too funny!

It’s a great day in South Carolina when Big T shuts the f up.

Well, perhaps the SC Progressive should submit their proposals to makes SC better or just STFU.

Gov., I’d like to see things from your point of view, but I can’t seem to get my head that far up my ass.
By El Rushbo September 28, 2011 at 3:40 pm
“It’s time to put up or shut up.” Is that like saying, “Reach for the sky this is a stick up, taxpayers!” Why don’t they “shut up?” Don’t you love how they have these clips about poor performing students in SC? They wish throwing money at the problem was the answer, but it’s not that easy. All of SC’s problems are the Republican’s fault. “It’s Bush’s fault.” The dem talking points are getting real old. Nobody is listening and PS soon it’s gonna be ‘O” baby’s fault and I’m not talking about Oprah.

I’ve decided I have a life, and I want to live it.
Check with me again next week, cause they answer may be different when I’m off my meds.

That’s actually a damn good photo of Nikki. She looks comfortable there.
By TFCSCHP September 28, 2011 at 4:17 pm
This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. So when a person is killed in a fatality and the family calls, they expect us to say that, lol yea right
By Perfect September 28, 2011 at 4:26 pm
lol @ Andy. She does look like she fits right in.
She’s finally found a job suitable for her skill level.
Seriously though, if I were the Goebbels to her Hitler, I’d recommend “It’s a beautiful day” by U2 as the “hold music” for our fine state agencies.
Maybe she can even parlay it into a re-election campaign theme song.

Any truth to the rumor that Will Folks and Larry Marchant now answer their phones by saying “It’s a great day to be in Nikki Haley”?

Poorly done:
voices on voices, making nonsense eventually — for the ear.
“headlines” on “headlines,” all done electronically — for the eye.
Made my head spin.
Not funny or newsworthy.

I worked on her behalf in my neighborhood and voted for her and with all the problems we have in this state and country, this “feel good” greeting is BULLSHIT.

This audio is all a sadist would need for black ops, such as were used on the Sun Times guy @ the MB Chamber of Commerce.
At the right decibel and under the right stress/deprivation conditions, one might be pushed to do almost anything.

I’m reminded of a line from “The American President” — “These are serious times that require serious solutions.” No, this isn’t just a Republican problem, but this stupid greeting sure as hell isn’t a serious solution.
WTF?? My colleagues and I haven’t had a raise in four years and counting, and I’m supposed to say this when I answer the phone? I couldn’t get it out with a straight face if I tried.
Please tell me this chick’s 15 minutes of fame are almost up.

How can someone be so stupid? Didn’t she know her detractors were going to take this and run with it? Besides making state workers mad, she has made herself look so foolish.
It is a great day in South Carolina though !! Deer season is in !!!!!!
By ceilidh10 September 29, 2011 at 9:22 am
It is NOT a great day in South Carolina. We have high unemployment, one-sided government tipped in favor of the GOP, a growing group of uneducated people, high poverty, little opportunity. We are facing Republican budget cuts. The GOP has yet to slice this state up further in its own interests, and when it does we will sink like a rock.
What have ya done for us lately Miss Haley? Not a gosh darn thang.
GO BACK TO INDIA. We are Sikh of you !

Sounds like Mr. Parish has more influence with the administration than I gave him credit for. This is a hospitality thing.

Mr. Dixie — Do you mean “if it’s brown, it’s down?” That’s what all the rednecks in Lexington have on their trucks. Sounds like a death threat to me.

As I see it Gov. Haley is a business person, so she’s going to approach the governance of our state as if it were a business. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that she would resort to these kinds of policies. The problem is the state ISN”T a business, it’s a community, a society, a culture, and to me these types of tactics are pretty pointless. She said that this greeting is to remind the workers who they work for, the people of SC. But, It really shows them that they work for her, (I mean I wasn’t asked if this was a good idea and I pay taxes and live in the state). Moreover, she not only sees the state workers as HER employees but she sees us as “customers” and I REALLY have a problem with that point of view. I won’t say what she should or should not focus on, but I will say if you want leadership vote for leaders, if you want a CEO then you get what you pay for, no pun intended.
By SCRLEO September 29, 2011 at 1:28 pm
I just have one question. WTH is so great in South Carolina today or any day? If I were to call Gov. Halley today, and she answered the phone with that speech ( which we know she will never answers a phone) my response would be. Where the hell did this idea come from and what the hell is so great? To me it sounds like some Loan Company BULLSHIT. Oh but wait there are no loans for people in SC. State employee’s job and funds have been cut. Schools in SC are in desperate need of funding. I like PUZZLED stated / worked on her behalf in my neighborhood and voted for her. She talked the talk but has yet walked the walk. I had rather hear WTF you want, this is SC and we have a nothing for you. At least that would be closer to the truth than it’s a great day. I say just tell it like it is.
By HWP September 29, 2011 at 7:12 pm
I stand by my January 2011 assertion that Will Folks IS the government media — the “government” of Donnie Myers, puppeteer of Nikki Haley.
Where is that article? B & W lock on the mouth guy photo.
And why are past articles so elusive now?
You’re a tool, Sic Willie. A tool with a new baby on the way. Can’t say as I blame you for blowing El Corrupto’s shofar. It will feed the chirens.
But you will hate yourself eventually.

Listen, Governor: It is very inappropriate for a number of state agencies to answer the phone with that “cheerful”, albeit untrue greeting. Please think of what so many of these agencies do. How does this greeting make so many people feel when they are calling with or for terrible news or events in their lives. Think: you have just lost your children due to allegations of neglect, and you are calling DSS to find out what classes you need to take to get them back. How about getting a death certificate for a loved one? How about calling to find out why Victim Assistance has left you a message. Has the inmate who tried to kill you escaped? You need the results of the HIV/AIDS test. You need help with a dying elderly parent, your loved one is threatening suicide and you need a counselor, what about services for your seriously handicapped new born? You are trying to find out more for your recently injured husband? You need unemployment assistance. Your child is having school problems and faces detention. I really could go on for a long time. Do you see how awful it would be to hear those “cheerful words” when life is not great in SC or anywhere for you? The staff person needs to be professional and polite, not phoney. Life is not great for many. You can not fake attitude or certainly not reality. A stupid greeting will not bring back the deceased, or get you a job, or mental health services or help for your parent who has days to live….. Somebody tell Haley she has really missed the point on this and is actually forcing people to be cruel. Hello, Haley, this is a terrible idea.
By Scooter September 29, 2011 at 9:09 pm
Richard: A good start for making things better in SC is to elect some Dems. Look what we have with repub.s running everything. What else do you need to realize they can not make things better, cause they do not wish to do so.
By Jimmy September 30, 2011 at 7:31 am
Here’s a better greeting for State employees:
“It’s a great day in South Carolina and I have not had a cost of living raise in 5 years, so my salary is going down every year due to inflation, while the legislature gives a hundred million dollars to businesses who fired or laid off workers, and scrambles to find ways to spend any surplus on pork, how may I help you? It’s the debt collectors calling me, please hold”
By Jamie October 1, 2011 at 1:01 am
Watch out state employees. Haley’s staff have called state agencies and warned state employees of consequences if the telephone isn’t answered properly with “it’s a great day in SC.” I’m beginning to believe we live in a communist state with Nikki playing the leading role of Castro.
