SC 2012: Courting Tom Davis

U.S. Senator Jim DeMint and S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley have been lauded by the national press as the top endorsement prizes in South Carolina’s “First in the South” presidential primary. How come? Well, with the exception of left-leaning U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, those are the only two South Carolina politicians that the national press has heard of …

Closer to home, though, it’s looking as though the endorsement of S.C. Sen. Tom Davis – who is widely-presumed to be Graham’s future U.S. Senate opponent in 2014 – is almost as coveted as the blessing of DeMint (and perhaps even more coveted than the blessing of Haley, whose approval ratings are in the toilet).

That’s unheard of for a state lawmaker …

Last month, The Politico named Davis as one of its “50 politicos to watch,” noting that the endorsement of former Gov. Mark Sanford’s ex-chief of staff “will carry some of the weight the ex-governor’s might have without the ugly baggage.”

Earlier this week, the Hilton Head Island Packet did a story on the efforts being undertaken by several 2012 candidates to land Davis’ endorsement.

“That presidential candidates are courting Davis personally — treatment typically reserved for governors and Statehouse officers — is a measure of his growing influence among South Carolina conservatives,” the Packet noted.

So … who will Davis endorse?

It’s anybody’s guess at this point, but unlike Haley and countless other South Carolina politicos, Davis is one of those rare elected officials who can be counted on to make a decision that he believes to be in the best interests of the country – not his own political career.

In fact, that’s precisely why his endorsement is so coveted … because fiscal conservatives across this state know he’s the real deal.

OK I get the message about Davis.

Now, did he or did he not hold a meeting several years ago in a Public Library?

As a consequence was or was there not some employees (two ladies) who were subject to some negative actions?

And finally did he or did he not sit on his ass and let them take the fall?

I know fiscal, fiscal, fiscal, real deal, real deal, real deal.

What I want to know is what kind of person he is. Until I find out the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, fuck him.

    Fact check

Tom Davis prepared the incorporation papers for Will Folks and FITS News.

In other words, he is a legal advisor to Will Folks.

Presumedly paid in something other than a continuous display of off-the-wall public ass kissing that transcends the boundaries of promotion.

This is FITS at its worst.

    First) Who Cares about Davis??

Second) It’s impossible to accurately discern who carries any weight (except for DeMint.) And Haley and Davis-Fatigue is setting in w/ me.

Third) It looks like Davis is paying FITS to try to posit this “Leader-Stature” ideology to the people who care about SC politics and read this Blog.

Fourth) Because of Haley, any Sanford cronies are very damaged product right now. Because Sanford’s so Creepy.

I presume this statement includes all decisions he made irt Sanfraud. So how good were they for SC?

Sic Willie, you need to put down your crack pipe if you REALLY believe carpetbagger Davis does not make “decisions” based on furthering his political career.

Davis opposed 4,000 Amazon jobs, and instructed Haley to break the deal.

If the jobs would have been in his district Davis would have flipped pro-business, pro-family all of sudden…

I’m sick of self-intrest pretender fake politicians, w/ no core values…

Will, you’re not getting such positive reviews for this piece. I guess the obvious questions is, considering this state of affairs, whether your fawning over Sen. Tom Davis actually helps the guy or hurts him.

Just like when you let dudes like Randy Page have space here and then get thoroughly discredited by your readers.

It would be wonderful for Davis to displace DeMint.

DeMint replies to e-mails and letters with the exact same wording.

    Six weeks after receiving them.

Many career politicians are attempting to co-opt the energy of the Tea Party for their own individual gains.

These politicians, like Davis and Haley, are why the Tea Party formed. The Tea Party should be firmly opposed to Haley and Davis, if they are to be meaningful.

If the Republican Party would do its job, there would be no need for the Tea Party. Davis is like the Republican Party. In it for all HE can persoanlly get out of it…

    Those are NOT Conservative ideals…

And 8888: I’m Glad DeMint is not wasting time answering e-mails. He is busy doing what he said he would do. That is rare among elected officials…

    Dear BigT,

“And 8888: I’m Glad DeMint is not wasting time answering e-mails. He is busy doing what he said he would do. That is rare among elected officials…”

I see your multiple narrow-minded, peevish comments on every single topic at the FITSnews website, and always skip them; your oafish comment above caught my eye, though.

You and a few others have an unhealthy fixation on this website, and overwhelm it.

Do you have a job, a family, a friend, a pet, a hobby, or any interest in life besides FITSnews?

Why don’t you stop writing so much and read more? Like a book.

Only when the national media lives and works in South Carolina will they realize that SC Governot Nikki Haley could be a star in the movie sequel, Dumb and Dumber.

I am betting that there are many of her 51% resounding victory in the governor’s race that want a “do over”.

That tells me why you likely did not get the response from DeMint that you wanted. You present yourself as one who hears only what you want to hear.

Tom is a standup guy, that said what will he do this time around with his conservative clout is anyone’s best guess.

We would not be surprised to see him endorse Ron Paul, the only 2012 candidate who can stand on his record, has nothing forced to explain, repeatedly, and the media hates him is a big plus. Quite frankly, liking Ron Paul is becoming pretty easy, damn the guy just has this affinity for the truth.

It is becoming very hard to ignore this fellow as a contender.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s the reason. The whole thing just seems unseemly, especially since all I ever see on the top banner ad is Davis’ mug. Really, as others have mentioned about, you should have named this post “SC 2012: Blowing Tom Davis”. Or is it the other way around?
