We’ve been accused of ignoring the “big news” that came out of Clemson, S.C. last Friday – namely the self-reported commission of a dozen NCAA violations by Clemson University athletes.
All of the violations occurred this year, and all of them are secondary (i.e. not serious). The school has thus far declined to identify the athletes who committed the violations – or reveal what sports they play.
If you want to read more about the situation, here’s the Associated Press report.
So … why did we choose to ignore this news?
Well, after reading the AP’s coverage we just didn’t think the violations were all that serious. In fact, we were sort of bummed to have wasted our time clicking on the story only to discover that several of the offenses were in the $1 – $2 range.
And take it from us, people … the dollar ain’t what it used to be.
Maybe the NCAA will disagree with our assessment when they receive Clemson’s report – and if they choose to punish the school at that point we’ll obviously write about it (again).
Until then, these violations strike us as a total non-troversy.
