The Edges: Trouble In Paradise

We’d like to state for the record that we’re fans of both S.C. Rep. Tracy Edge (R-Myrtle Beach) and his wife, Melissa. They’re both good people – and good parents to their kids – and we’ve always gotten along very well with both of them.

That’s why we hate to see their marriage unraveling on social media …

“I don’t think it was such a good idea to take all my money,” Melissa Edge wrote Thursday afternoon on her husband’s Facebook page. “There is no money on the credit card or in the only bank account that I have access to.”

Edge deleted this post less than an hour after it appeared, but by that time several political operatives had saved the message.

Take a look …

Yeah … ouch.

Earlier in the day, Melissa Edge posted the following message on her own Facebook page:

After 15 years of being a stay-at-home mom and volunteering for everything imaginable, I have to get a job (that pays real money). Kinda scary after all this time. Anyone have any advice, tips, leads, etc?

Beyond the obvious financial brinksmanship referenced above, sources tell FITS that Melissa Edge may have already been served with divorce papers by her husband.

Obviously, it’s been a very tough time for the couple. Earlier this year, media outlets up and down the Grand Strand aired a tape of Melissa Edge having a heated conversation with a former lover. We declined to air the tape – or write about it – because we were hoping the couple might be able to resolve their differences.

It looks like that’s not going to happen, though.

Sources close to the Edges say that the upcoming divorce is going to be especially nasty.

In addition to allegations of drug abuse, alcoholism and affairs, we’re already investigating a report from a neighbor related to a domestic disturbance that took place at the Edge’s home last November.

According to the neighbor, police were called to the scene.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, but right now that looks unlikely …

UDPATE: According to a law enforcement source on the Grand Strand, an incident report was filed related to the dust-up at the Edges home in November. Obviously, we’re trying to track that report down.
