Herman Cain Loses Staffers, Etc.

It’s not as bad as the mass exodus of staffers from the presidential campaign of former U.S. Speaker Newt Gingrich earlier this year, but former Godfathers CEO Herman Cain has lost a pair of key advisors in early voting states.

The upstart fiscal conservative – who has been out-polling several of his better-known, better-financed GOP rivals – lost state directors in Iowa and New Hampshire in successive days. On Monday, Cain’s only paid New Hampshire staffer stepped down from his post – apparently upset that the campaign wasn’t spending more money in the state. On Tuesday, Cain’s state director in Iowa followed suit – saying that Cain wasn’t making a “serious effort” in the state.

A source familiar with the Cain campaign’s inner workings wasn’t surprised by the resignations.

“He has some really incompetent people around him,” the source tells FITS.

FLIPPER PAC RAISES CASH

A political action committee that’s supporting the candidacy of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has raked in $12 million over the first six months of 2011.

This so-called “Super PAC” – or “Flipper PAC,” as our founding editor refers to it – will likely use that money to run television ads in support of Romney’s candidacy.

Romney is expected to announce a second quarter fundraising total of roughly $20 million – an amount that should easily outdistance any of his GOP rivals. Of course that figure pales in comparison to the $60 million that U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to pull in over the same time period.

Obama is likely to raise $1 billion for his reelection bid by the time it’s all said and done, with special interests expected to spend another $1 billion on his behalf.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders

A TOUCH OF THE HUCK

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, whose presidential campaign has been sputtering of late, is bringing on the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in an attempt to breathe new life into his 2012 bid.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders – who helped guide her father to a string of early-state successes in 2008 – will help Pawlenty’s campaign focus on its grassroots effort as well as an upcoming straw poll that could determine whether he remains in the race.

“Sarah is a results-oriented person with a great track record in Iowa and around the country,” Pawlenty said in a statement. “We are very excited Sarah is joining our team just as we are hitting our stride in Iowa.”

Hitting his stride?

The last time we checked, Pawlenty was getting crushed in early Iowa polls – sort of like he’s getting crushed in early New Hampshire and South Carolina polls, too.

Pawlently also raised just $4.2 million during the recently-concluded fundraising quarter – a disappointing financial showing for the candidate many once viewed as the primary rival to GOP front-runner Mitt Romney.

I guess the MSM is having difficulty controlling the process this cycle. Well, there’s plenty of chumps left for them to pump up before that final push for Romney.

You gotta have an “underdog” for people to root for if you’re gonna try to make the primary interesting and pretend the candidate is not pre-selected/ordained.

Hmmm…Self-important, but worthless political insiders quitting. Not news…

I do notice that the harshest criticism is on the GOP candidates, that the media thinks have a chance.

In other words, if you’re being bashed by certain segments, that’s good.
