Nearly a year after winning the College World Series, the University of South Carolina baseball team is back on top.

The Gamecocks earned the No. 1 ranking in the nation from Baseball America on Monday, stealing the top spot from the Virginia Cavaliers – who had held it for the last five weeks.

South Carolina (44-12, 22-8 SEC) becomes the third SEC East team to hold the top spot this season, following Florida and Vanderbilt. Those three “beasts of the East” shared the SEC regular season title this year, although Coach Ray Tanner’s team earned the top seed in the SEC tournament by virtue of series wins over the Commodores and Gators.

Florida finished the season ranked No. 3, one spot ahead of Vanderbilt.

Clemson (39-17) finished the regular season ranked No. 17 – one of six ACC teams in the rankings.
