From the beginning of the Darla Moore drama months ago, we have supported S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley‘s decision to remove liberal Lake City philanthropist from the University of South Carolina board of trustees.
We still support her decision … as well as the rumored motivation behind it.
After all Moore is one of the primary supporters of a failed government-run economic development strategy that has produced spectacular taxpayer-funded boondoggles like USC’s “Innovista” – and any blow that can be struck against that costly, unproductive mindset is a good thing.
Of course we’ve said all along that Moore’s dismissal does nothing to change the uber-leftist ideological direction of the USC board – nor does it demonstrate Haley’s opposition to government-run economic development scams. After all, Haley named fellow “command economist” Bobby Hitt as her Secretary of Commerce – a much more important appointment than Moore’s seat on the USC board.
Anyway, given her lack of any ideological mooring, Haley was unable to provide a compelling justification for getting rid of Moore. You know, something like …
While I am grateful to Darla Moore for her years of service and the unprecedented level of financial support that she has shown the University of South Carolina, I have a different view of the school’s mission than she does. I believe that USC ought to restore its primary focus on academics – not speculative taxpayer-funded investments. Therefore I am replacing her with someone who I believe will better represent the best interests of students and parents who have borne the brunt of the school’s exorbitant tuition increases.
Simple enough, right?
Obviously, Haley didn’t say that, though …
In fact, you can read in excruciating detail about the unmitigated clusterfuck that accompanied her decision to get rid of Moore in Thursday’s editions of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper.
By far and away the most damaging revelation to come from this latest “Haley-gate” involves the governor’s attempt to manipulate nationally-syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker with a bogus excuse about why she canned Moore.
“As Haley explains events, Moore lost her seat basically because she didn’t express sufficient interest in keeping it,” Parker wrote in a column published last month. “She didn’t return Haley’s calls, as the governor tells it, and when Haley tried to meet with Moore, there was a three-week wait.”
According to documents obtained by The State, the story Haley gave Parker was a bald-faced lie. Not only is its time frame completely concocted, but Moore’s replacement on the USC board – a Haley campaign contributor – filled out his application for the post more than a month before the governor’s office attempted to set up a meeting with Moore.
The documents also show repeated attempts by the Haley administration to get local reporters to bite on the “Moore wouldn’t call (Haley) back” angle – efforts which were rebuffed.

Obviously, this isn’t the first time Haley has been caught in a lie …
I’m an accountant.
I’ve been 100 percent faithful to my husband.
I hardly knew Will Folks.
I didn’t call a former lawmaker to stop an audit of my family business.
I competed fair and square for my former fund-raising job at a local hospital.
I didn’t fill out that online application with the hospital.
I left my hospital job under amicable circumstances.
There are plenty of others, but you get the drift …
This lie will cut Haley much deeper, though, particularly given her national ambitions. Seriously … what national reporter is going to trust Haley now?
Here in South Carolina, these revelations will only inflame the left – which rose up in defense of Darla – while giving independents yet another high-profile example of Haley’s lack of truthfulness.
What a tangled, tangled web Nikki Haley has woven … all because she lacked the ideological convictions to appoint someone for the right reasons and tell the truth about that reasoning.

People need to realize the truth. That truth is that she is a pathological liar. Pathological lying is considered to be a mental illness, and somewhat treatable. Treatable, however, if the person can admit the problem and want help. Wanting the help is the key.

While it shows the media rebuffed several attempts at adopting one specific line, it also shows the media coming pretty much hat in hand in several instances too.
Give The State and Wayne Washington some props on this. This is what the traditional newspaper medium has been best at. When they work with the attitude of getting the story, no matter how long it takes, rather than trying to be first and losing almost every time, they win almost every time.
It shows how Kathleen Parker got used. That Pulitzer, already tarnished by her gig with Eliot Spitzer, just got a little more messy. But the quotes you put up do have a slightly skeptical air. “As Haley explains it,” “As the governor tells it.” If she had put the “AS’s in all caps and bolded, I’d be sure KParker was skeptical.
Through it all, Rob Godfrey’s immaturity for such a position is also evident. I think I could see the tears of his pouting in the e-mail to the TV reporter who “had already written his story,” as RGodfrey put it, when he contacted.
It was a legitimate question, legitimately framed. His response was to accuse and deflect.

A pathology, like this, is difficult to treat. At her age, even more difficult. It has become second nature and void of guilt, right or wrong.She sees it as ameans to an end, she desires, a necessary tool, in her perverted tool bag. Just as a life of promiscuity would be seen. Perceived as just another tool to get what she wants.
It has obviously served her well through life, Lex. Hospital job, Wilbur Smith job, claiming to be an accountant, only in reality, a book keeper (big difference).
She may be too caught up in herself and her desires, wants, needs, goals to change any of this. If this is the case, the more she uses it and gets by with it, the worse it will become.

I don’t understand how this proves Haley lied. I may be missing something. A staffer emails to say Moore is canceling her meeting with Haley. Haley’s staff had to email Moore to set up a time. If the two had spoken over the phone, that wouldn’t have been an issue.
Now, the Gov. may have had Cofield already lined up (as I suspect she did), but it seems apparent to me that Moore was NOT responding to Haley’s staff.

My brother was married to a pathological liar. Was like being married to a drug addict. You could trust nothing…not even the the most trivial comments. His wife would lie and believe her own lies, and lie just to make things sound more important than they really were. Patholical liars are completelty unstable and require rehabilitaion for the illness. The success rate is not great.

Peter O, it looked to me from the whole article like Cofield was offered and accepted the job BEFORE any the Haley Administration made any effort to contact Moore about the appointment. This contradicts the impression created by Haley’s peeps that Moore was dumped for failing to timely meet with Haley.

I now believe the story about Exotica being a decoy operation/loan-shark front. Nikki is a pathological liar and it is not her fault, the blame lies with her parents. Her parents raised her to lie about Exotica and other illegal activities. Therefore her sense of balance is thrown off. Nikki can’t help herself from lying, because she was raised as a liar. Lying is a natural response from her.

A sociopathic liar is manipulative and usually goal-oriented, and deliberately lies to get their way without concern for others. As in other types of sociopathic behavior, they can be charming and charismatic, and use those social skills in self-centered ways.
A compulsive/pathological liar does so because they are uncomfortable with telling the truth. They mostly lie out of habit, not with the goal of controlling others or outcomes.
So what type of liar is Haley? I’d say she is primarily a compulsive liar with underlying sociopathic personality tendencies. One’s upbringing can be an influence, but is not the reason for lying. Both types of liars are deliberate in choosing to lie rather than tell the truth whether it is to achieve a goal or to embellish the truth/avoid the truth. (BTW, I’m not a psychologist, but the training I’ve had in detecting deception addresses the characteristics of liars and their motivation.)
