Fellow Democrats –
On Saturday, April 30, the delegates (many of you) to the 2011 South Carolina Democratic Convention will select the next chair of our party. I’m encouraged by the outpouring of support our campaign has received. If you haven’t made up your mind yet about whom to support for chair, I hope you’ll take a moment to read the messages below from just a few of our strongest supporters such as Congressman Jim Clyburn, Sen. Vincent Sheheen, and some of our party’s hardest working activists and county chairs. I’m honored to have their support, and I ask for your support as well. Together, we can get our party back on track and rebuild it from the ground up.

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you.
“Dick will be a tough, effective party chairman. He’s the right person to take on the Republicans every day, raise the money we need, and put our party back on track.”
- Congressman James Clyburn
“Dick Harpootlian is smart, tenacious, and tough as nails. Republicans are terrified at the thought of a Harpootlian-led Democratic Party holding them accountable every day for their scandals and failures. He knows how to fight…and he knows how to win. That’s why we need him as our Party Chairman.” – former Gov. Jim Hodges
“Dick Harpootlian is a great friend to Democratics and is the Republicans’ worst nightmare. He will hold the Republicans accountable, raise the money needed to have an effective Party, and build relationships among Democrats across the state.”
- Sen. Vincent Sheheen, 2010 Democratic gubernatorial nominee
“Few people anywhere have done more to advance the causes that Democrats hold dear. Dick is a great fundraiser and a fearless competitor. He’s also a winner, and as Chairman, he’ll help South Carolina Democrats win again.” – Joe Erwin, former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman
“South Carolina’s Democratic Party needs a leader who can raise money, motivate people, and build a movement. I believe Dick Harpoolian is that man.” Rep. Harry Ott, House Minority Leader
“For Democrats to win elections in 2012 and beyond it is essential that our next Chair be able to organize, fundraise and carry our message and no one can do that better than Dick Harpootlian. Elect Dick Harpootlian Chair of our Democratic Party.” – Rep. James Smith
“Dick is the type of leader that seeks progressiveness and commits to the needs of the community he serves. He has my support to help move our party forward!” – Rep. Bakari Sellers
“I support Dick because he has a proven record of helping Democrats win. I want a chair who will stand up to the Republicans and call them out on their failed leadership.” – former Rep. Anne Peterson Hutto
“Our Party needs a person with a real track record of results in recruiting candidates, supporting the party and candidates, raising money, and taking a proactive approach to the current political scene. It’s not a time to be learning on the job.” – Kathy Hensley, Lexington County Democratic Party Chairwoman
“I served on the Executive Committee and Council while Dick was Chair and I think his leadership and fundraising abilities are what we need now. I believe he is the best Chair for the party.” – Sally Howard, President, Democratic Women’s Council of Horry County
“I can think of no other individual that WILL and CAN contribute the energy, time and resources necessary to turn this party around! Debbie Dorn, Anderson County Delegate
“Our new chair must be able to convince South Carolina voters that Democrats are a viable and energetic alternative to Republicans. He must also be able to raise money so our organizers can get back to work executing the plan we executed in 2008–not a NEW Democrat plan. I think Dick Harpootlian is the man for this job. I look forward to having the resources we need to elect Democrats in 2012 which is possible if we elect Dick as Chair.” – Kaye Koonce
“I believe a chair for the party needs to be someone who dedicates their time and money to the Democratic Party and its candidates. I have decided to support Dick Harpootlian because he has a track record of that kind of support. He will put his money where his mouth is.” – Cherie Mabrey, York County Delegate
