Who Is Alvin Greene?

More to the point … who is Leslie Beaumont (pictured)?

Everybody in South Carolina already knows who Greene is … he’s the latest Palmetto-related political punch line, an unemployed veteran with a pending obscenity charge who became the Democratic U.S. Senate nominee thanks to the laziness (and racism) of S.C. Democratic primary voters.

Ba-doom ching, right? The joke is – as always – on us.

Beaumont, however, is a different story. She’s the producer/ director who chronicled Greene’s bizarre rise to prominence for her documentary, “Who Is Alvin Greene?”

“Storytelling reveals meaning without committing the error of defining it,” Beaumont says on her website, quoting German philosopher Hannah Arendt.

Translation? She lets the cameras roll …

Obviously we’ll be very interested to see her final cut … although we suspect this story is far from over (unfortunately).

Greene – who was handily defeated by U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint in November – announced last week that he’s running for the South Carolina State House, and says that a presidential campaign is his “back-up plan.”

I am still baffled by how many votes Alvin got in this previous election. If anything I feel it would’ve caused a mass disaffiliation from the party of affirmative action and welfare, “neo-racism” as it would be, because of the utter and blatant stupidity of this man claiming to represent voters interests. But, the way this Republic is no longer a Republic it isn’t hard to see how Democrats related enough to their candidate to bring him to the level of embarrassment he reached. After watching this “documentary” or whatever it should be classified as, the only things the viewers should be aware of is that there are a lot of people who have no respect for themselves, this state, or this country.

I don’t understand why you continue to implicate racism in Greene’s surprise Democratic primary victory. Is it because you believe that tripe that the e on the end of his surname identified him as an African-American? Because that was certainly news to my sainted mother, whose maiden name has the same spelling.

Nobody knew who this guy was much less what color he was. His defeat of Rawl was a complete mystery, and I’ve yet to hear any plausible explanations for it.

I voted in the Republican primary. It didn’t matter who the Democrats nominated because he wasn’t getting past Demint.

It is a dem district at 52% non-white.

Johnson is an African American running as dem and is currently the mayor of Manning with a population of 4000. There are 38,000 in the house district.

Stewart is a white dem and currently the Chair of County Council.
He is an at large member so his district nearly perfectly overlaps the entire house district.

Greene is , well Greene. He could play the role of spoiler for for Johnson if the non-white community gives him 10% of the total vote.

Stats suggest people who show up to a special election know who they will vote for, are motivated, are more informed, and white voters tend to show up in larger percentages from normal voting habits.

SOOO, if there is no republican primary the whites may vote in dem primary for the Stewart. Greene could hurt Johnsons chances.
Sen Land is rumored to support Stewart. Cal Land is the dem Chair for the county.

What are the Vegas odds on the over and under for Greens total % vote. I say Greene gets 8% of total. Will get a bet started.

As someone who couldn’t stomach a pull on a lever for our embarrassment of a Senator, Jim DeMint, voting for Alvin was easy. He actually was less of an idiot….but heh, this is South Carolina. For those of us in the Upstate, it’s just like the old USSR…a single, party approved candidate for each office.
