Lattimore: “Superfrosh”

University of South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore has been named CBSSports.com‘s “Freshman of the Year” – besting Georgia’s Aaron Murray and Wisconsin’s James White in a landslide vote of experts and fans.

Lattimore was also the only freshman selected to the Coaches’ All-SEC first team – joining teammates Alshon Jeffery (sophomore, WR) and Stephon Gilmore (sophomore, DB).

The honors come less than 24 hours after the Duncan, S.C. native was unanimously named SEC “Freshman of the Year” by the Associated Press. Lattimore was also the only freshman named to the AP’s All-SEC first team, a unit that included Jeffery and USC sophomore defensive end Devin Taylor.

In twelve games this season, Lattimore rushed for 1,198 yards – second-best in the SEC. He also finished second in the conference with 19 touchdowns.

Lattimore’s No. 20 Gamecocks (9-4, 5-3 SEC) will take on No. 23 Florida State (9-4, 6-2 ACC) in the Peach Bowl … err, Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve at the Georgia Dome in Altanta. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. EST, with ESPN televising the game nationally.
