The first “grunge” album we ever bought was Soundgarden’s Louder Than Love, released in 1989. This song isn’t from that album, though, it’s from Soundgarden’s second major label recording – Badmotorfinger.
Led by Chris Cornell – who also fronted the supergroup “Audioslave” – Soundgarden was one of Seattle’s founding grunge acts and the first grunge band to sign a major label record deal.
A reaction to the glammed-up hair bands of the 1980s, grunge caught fire in 1991 with the release of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” In case you were wondering, the term “grunge” originated in Australia. It was first used in America in the early 1980s by Seattle vocalist Mark Arm.
