Change in Governor’s Schedule
Columbia, S.C. – September 2, 2010 – Gov. Sanford’s schedule for tomorrow (Friday, September 3) has changed. The Governor’s visit to the St. Matthews QuickJobs Center Visit has been postponed, as the Governor will now attend the funeral of Helen Coggeshall Harvey tomorrow afternoon in the Lowcountry (2:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, 1201 North Street, Beaufort).
“With the sad news of Helen Coggeshall Harvey’s passing, our thoughts and prayers go out to her immediate family, extended relatives and friends spread literally across our state,” Gov. Mark Sanford said. “Helen was more than just a remarkable lady. Indeed, she represented the best of humanity in her decades of service, her selfless devotion to projects like historical preservation and her generosity to higher education in South Carolina, and her many years of inspiring others as a teacher, an adviser, a woman of great faith, and a mother and grandmother.”
Helen Beard Coggeshall Harvey, the wife of former state legislator and Lt. Governor W. Brantley Harvey Jr., was named South Carolina Mother of the Year in 1999 and served in various roles in Beaufort and elsewhere across South Carolina.
