Let’s be clear about one thing: The editorial board of The Rock Hill Herald is the most liberal editorial board in the state of South Carolina.
It’s not even close … nor has it been close for most of the last decade. Almost without exception, the paper has never met a tax hike, government program, free-spending politician or politically-correct cause that it hasn’t wildly embraced, or a conservative idea or advocate that it hasn’t sought to demonize and destroy.
It’s like having the editorial boards of The New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle rolled into one – right here in South Carolina!
Accordingly, you had to assume that the Herald would give S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley – the Palmetto state’s self-proclaimed Queen of transparency – an earful over her recent failure to release all of her legislative emails.
Which it did:
… despite the attempt to paint herself as a champion of transparency, Haley has been slow to produce public records requested by the state media. Her Democratic opponent, state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, has been dogging her for months to produce the records after she invoked a legislative exemption to keep her e-mails private.
On Aug. 20, Haley made a show of releasing thousands of e-mails from her state House account that contained constituent requests, encouraging words and newsletters, but little, if any, correspondence pertaining to legislative business. The e-mails she released covered only the time period between April and June, and she released no information from her state-issued computer hard drives, which store the permanent record of all e-mail correspondence …
… Haley is the one who made her devotion to transparency and openness one of the key issues of her campaign and one of things that differentiates her from other legislators. Her reliance on a legislative exemption and her reluctance to fully disclose the content of her public e-mails make this issue a bigger deal than it should be.
And if that makes her look hypocritical, she has no one to blame but herself.
Wow … for once we actually agree with these commie pinkos.

Haley is drowning in her self created cess pool. The truth could have kept her afloat. To the dwindling number of Haley supporters out there, I say “pull your head out, out of the sand that is”. See this person for what she is and what she is not. Just remember a vote for Haley means you condone her behavior. I, personally, cannot compromise my integrity, morals and ethics. I cannot condone her and I cannot vote for her.

“These commie pinkos” is really one guy, the opinion page editor, James Werrell.
He’s lasted through about four publishers and two big E editors, so he’s setting the tone completely.

It’s yet another McClatchy rag, of course.
Will, when are you going to do something for FITSNews on the extremely corrosive effect of the near-hegemony of McClatchy in ownership of influential SC newepapers?
Even the Sun News, which publishes 90% incosequential filler crap, is influential, due to the fact that The State (also owned by McClatchy) gets ALL it’s news about Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand from its extremely biased writers. The only real investigative journalist among the, David Wren, has mostly been diverted by the Editor to stories of minor corruption in other beach communities, and has only recently begun to cover the “Chambergate” situation at any depth.
The fact that these mainly-liberal “journalists” have been so in the tank for the mainstream “Good Ol’ Boy” MB Repubs in office and in key positions at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (who are the perps in the scam/scheme/scandal) should, I think, make your Libertarian Spidey Senses tingle like mad. That, and the fact that the Horry County Democratic Party leadership is in the tank for them as well, and was part of the whole scam regarding the bogus helmet law, the Ad Tax and Take Back May.
And yet, for some reason, you seem to depend only on what David Wren writes for your too-infrequent forrays into “Chambergate”. Why IS that? You are in Columbia, and you either know everybody there or you know people who know everybody. THAT is the center of this damned thing, and you know it. YOU could be digging up shit on this every day, but instead you fall back on second-hand info from Wren — who, around two months ago, despite his obvious talent, had to be tippend off by an oddball “outsider” like me that the FBI and the IRS were at the interview phase of an investigation that had, in fact, been going on for several months.
You have mad skills, you have the connections, you are in the catbird seat for getting to the bottom of this whole stinking mess and scooping everybody on what is potentially the biggest pay-to-play and vote-rigging scandal in SC history.
Why don’t you just quit fiddle-fartin’ around and get on the stick, Sic?

Boz – Interesting. Are you suggesting that Sic is lazy when it comes to policing his own industry?

SOYSD – Just curious. What is your number one gripe against Nookie? The Affair Denials?

Also a notable excerpt from the editorial:
… her campaign manager Robert Godfrey released a statement saying that thousands of e-mails would be seen by most people to be “a pretty extraordinary amount of information.” He added that “now, it’s time to move forward with the issues that truly impact the people of our state.”
Translated: “Ms. Haley isn’t bound by the one issue that has catapulted her from obscurity to the gubernatorial frontrunner. In fact, we honestly don’t think transparency has any significant impact on the people of the state. She simply needed a way to position herself as an outsider when she was actually profiting from being an insider as much as any legislator.”

/// Boz – Interesting. Are you suggesting that Sic is lazy when it comes to policing his own industry? ///
Is it really his industry, Matlock? I don’t think that in general, print journalists — even those with blogs — consider bloggers to be in the same league. But bloggers often beat them to the punch on important stories.
Sic himself has said that “Chambergate” was the most blatant pay-to-play scheme he had ever seen (or words to that effect), and it has become obvious that biggies such as Mark Kelly, J. Warren Tompkins, Katon Dawson and Gresham Barrett were deeply involved in it to varying degrees. HE’S the one in Columbia, HE’S the one with all the supposed connections.
The State, a McClatchy rag dependent on The Sun News for it’s MB stories, cannot be trusted to go after this one, for reasons I’ve outlined. And what the hell, Sic has GOT to have heard some very juicy rumors — I’ve sent him plenty myself. It’s not as though he is above publishing rumors, now, is it? But what would be even better would be asking questions of those in the know about this up there in the state capital. Put out a little story about it every now and then, between what are basically his re-posts of David Wren’s articles. Sure would beat some of the inconsequential stuff he posts. (Though I do like the hot babes and the good tunes.)
That would keep the pot stirred, at least. As he himself has noted, this whole thing would have died out if not for local activist such as my good friend Tom Herron (and me, and several others who have been on this for over a year, I would add) keeping the pressure on in various ways. One of the ways of doing that, for me, has been posting to his stories here, linking to them on facebook, etc. They have been consistently overwhelmed by his tedious “I nailed Nikki” crap, however, and stuff about idiots like Wilson and Knotts.
Jesus, whether the thing with Nikki is a scam they cooked up to get sympathy for her or it’s true, that’s the kind of shit that Repubs obsess about … I could care less beyond the very mild tittilation factor and the funny posts by Balsak.
The Chambergate story was huge in its implications from the beginning, and apparently is getting bigger. There’s a news blackout on it, however, in great part due to McClatchy and The Sun News — plus all the MB area media outlets who have members on the Board of Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
There are a lot of angles of attack possible, even without widespread resignations, indictments, or even after-the-fact stories from David Wren. I’d just like to see Sic live up to his reputation for some down-and-dirty gutter-level political snoopage, that’s all.
Really … is that too much to ask?

….”I could care less beyond the very mild tittilation factor”….. Are you kidding me??? Think of it…..dozens of positions, hundreds of locations, thousands of grap points.
