His Name Is Earl

While the country recovers from a deluge of anniversary stories about Hurricane Katrina – which killed nearly 2,000 people and did $81 billion worth of damage after it slammed into Louisiana five years ago – another major hurricane is brewing in the Atlantic Ocean.

And while it’s too soon to predict a U.S. landfall for “Earl,” the outer edge of the storm’s current forecast track has it skirting along North Carolina’s Outer Banks and up through Philadelphia, New York and New England.

Check it out:

Earl is currently a Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, meaning it has maximum sustained winds of more than 110 miles per hour. It could grow into a Category 4 storm within the next two days, however.
