Riding a wave of resentment against the socialist policies of U.S. President Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats, the Grand Old Party – which was given up for dead less than two years ago – continues to gain the support of American voters looking for an alternative.
Now … whether Republican candidates actually hold true to their party’s stated support for limited government, less spending and lower taxes obviously remains to be seen … but it’s looking increasingly like they’ll get the chance to show if they’re serious.
According to the latest Rasmussen Reports polling, Republican candidates enjoy a 48-36 percent advantage over Democratic candidates on the “generic ballot” – a measure of partisan strength.
“Republicans have led on the Generic Congressional Ballot since June of last year, and their lead hasn’t fallen below five points since the beginning of December,” Rasmussen’s pollsters note.
Meanwhile, a new Gallup poll shows Republicans with a seven-point lead over Democrats on their “generic ballot” question.
“Republicans have led in each of the past three weeks, and their current 50 percent vote share and seven percentage-point lead represent their best showings thus far in 2010,” Gallup’s pollsters observed.
Obviously, you don’t have to reach too far back in this history books to find examples of the GOP bailing on its principles after elections … but at this point it’s pretty much impossible for America to veer any further to the left, isn’t it? Isn’t it?
Personally, we hope the GOP has learned from its near death experience – although we’re not optimistic. If it hasn’t, expect the “Tea party” to permanently revoke the GOP’s leadership credentials – which may not be a bad thing.
After all, there has been no greater enemy to the American taxpayer than the current “two-party” system, which has perpetuated unnecessary government growth, record deficit spending and a steady usurpation of individual liberty no matter which party has controlled the levers of power.

Sic, I’m not a democrat ok, but the policies of the last Republican US Congress were no different or better than the policies of this democrat US Congress.
Why blame Obama when Congress is the real problem?
The President is supposed to set the agenda, I agree, but looking back over the past ten years, that simply has not been the case.
Congress deserves the boot end of story.
All of em need to be gone. POOF, just like magic.
Can’t we demand paper ballots?
Or each individual can at least request absentee ballots, assuring that your own personal vote is truly counted.
