Cocks Blocked By Congress?

By FITSNews || A bill that would honor the University of South Carolina Gamecock baseball team for its 2010 College World Series victory – the school’s first ever national title -  is stuck in the U.S. Senate Judiciary committee.

Big effing deal, right?

After all, it’s not like Gamecocks are going to lose their crown if a bunch of Washington politicians fail to conduct a little superfluous officialdom.  Besides, with America’s faith in Congress at an all-time low, do the Gamecocks really want to be “honored” in this way?

We oppose ceremonial resolutions for sports teams at the federal, state and local level.  Not only is it a waste of time, it’s a pathetic excuse for elected officials to get their names and pictures in the media … for doing absolutely nothing.  Take U.S. Rep. Addision Graves “Joe” Wilson and U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham – a pair of Palmetto state RINOs who are leading the grandstanding on this issue.

“It’s a sad day when the Senate can no longer even come together for this purpose,” Graham moaned to McClatchy.

Good Lord, Lindsey … get the sand out of your vagina, dude.

Obviously we’re not saying that politicians shouldn’t support their alma maters – or victorious teams located in their cities or state – but they ought to do so on their own time (using their own money).  They shouldn’t waste taxpayer time or resources on this sort of ridiculousness …

Yikes …

“We need to raise the bar and start doing serious work around here,” U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said last week. “I don’t care if it’s a Democrat, I don’t care if it’s a Republican, if it’s in the world of sports – they get enough recognition. We’ve got important business.”

True that.

We hate to sound like Debbie Downers, but the fact is sports-related pomp and circumstance is yet another item we should add to the growing list of stuff that government shouldn’t be in the business of doing …

It’s actually the second national title, but the first one in a major sport. Women’s track brought home the first-ever national title in 2002.

You’d think the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee would support Lindsey after his Kagan vote.

Maybe it could’ve passed in the Senate if Lindsey Graham got a Democrat to sponsor it. At least in the House, there’s Clyburn and Spratt to move it.

A similar resolution put forth by Mary Landrieu is still languishing from when LSU won the CWS in 2009. Where was Graham’s despair about the lack of cameraderie in the Senate then?

hate to be a downer, but usc is not the only school in south carolina to win a national title. not only that, but usc won their national title in baseball. clemson won a ncaa title in football.

“The 1981 squad, led by Head Coach Danny Ford, became the first athletic team in school history to win a national championship. Clemson defeated Nebraska 22–15 in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida to win the 1981 NCAA Football National Championship.”

i mean hell man, john heisman coached there.

I hope that 30 years from now, USC fans are not still “bragging” about a far ago national championship. Or, if they are, they are recognizing it as the one spawned numerous others.

Without looking it up, who won in ’82, ’83, ’84, etc. For that matter name the winners in the 2000′s. See it for what is is and what it means to the fans and these player this year.
