Poll: Everybody Hates Congress

congress

By FITSNews || Only 11 percent of Americans currently have a high level of confidence in the U.S. Congress – the worst score for any institution in history.

Conversely, 50 percent of America has “very little” or “no” confidence in Congress – a record high.

These sobering numbers were released Friday by Gallup as part of its annual “Confidence in Institutions” poll.  Not surprisingly, Congress received the lowest rating of any institution included in the poll (the U.S. military received the highest rating).  As noted, the current Congressional confidence level is the lowest for any institution in the 37-year history of Gallup’s polling.

A year ago, 17 percent of Americans said they had “quite a lot” or a “great deal” of confidence in Congress compared to 38 percent who had “very little” or “no” confidence in Congress.

There was bad news for President Barack Obama, too, as just 36 percent of Americans expressed a high level of confidence in the institution of the presidency – a precipitous fifteen point drop from last year.

The polling was conducted in early July, shortly before the passage of the so-called “financial reform” bill.

And they hate us right back. Actions speak louder than words.

Yet a lot of incumbents will still get re-elected, because too many voters are narrow minded and selfish. They judged their representatives too often on the “pork” they send home and not on what they are doing for or to the nation as a whole. For example, by now most of the nation hates Nancy Pelosi’s guts, yet I would bet that witch gets re-elected. And Spratt, who dances on Pelosi’s strings, may very well win as well. Stupid. Selfish. It will never stop until we have term limits.

“…Congress received the lowest rating of any institution included in the poll – the U.S. military received the highest rating…”

Most of the American people know people who have served or are still serving in the military and most ordinary people do no even know who their Congressman is let alone trust anyone with a description as a politician.

Most of the American people are fully aware of who ‘walks the talk’ when it comes to Liberty and the U.S. Constitution. I have had association with both institutions: I know which one who says, “I’ve got your back” is willing to sacrifice to keep their word – and who is not.

Funny how “Nancy Pelosi” has become the standby term for adversarial politics. Absent a google search, most have no idea as to why they hate her – they just do.

Is this a surprise? How did these people get elected? By the same people who say they have no confidence in them. So whose fault is it that they are in Congress? You may hate Pelosi, et al, but you have zero say in their election unless you live in their district. Apparently their district is happy with the majority of them. ALL politics are local. Politicians know this and make sure their locals are taken care of.

Katherine, lines are being drawn right now that involve you, me and everyone else that posts or reads on this board. These lines are being drawn in secret though, unlike what my country the United States of America does democratically.

rest assured lines are being drawn as I type though.

“…most have no idea as to why they hate her – they just do.”

I don’t “hate” Pelosi (or anyone for that matter) but her politics and policies are the complete antithesis of what this country was founded upon.

This quote says it all about her…”But we must pass the health care bill so you can find out what’s in it.”

Right. And the more “we find out what’s in it” is a helluva lot worse than it was portrayed before it was crammed down our collective throats. Unfortunately, the other party isn’t much different from the incompetents running things now.

Term limits – the best answer.

I read where the “stimulus” funds have gone to Democrat districts 3:1 over Republican districts.

I agree with you, CNSYD, the Democrat politicans know how to take care of their constituents, on the backs of the Republicans…

Depending on who you believe, nearly half the citizens of this country (including dependents) receives some form of government money. This includes both the recipients of government assistance and the salaries and benefits of government employees at the local, state and federal levels.

True reform will not happen as long as the country remains so divided over the proper role of government. I’m sure it’s true that most Americans are losing confidence in the ability of Congress to do its job effectively. However, it’s clear that some people feel Congress is doing too much, while others feel Congress is doing too little.

The Bible says “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8) I suspect that applies to nations, too. A beautiful story began when this Country was founded, but it’s not going to have a happy ending if we don’t soon find our center of gravity.

Ms. Jenrette, maybe I’m missing your point. Are you saying you’d trust the pentagon before congress? Are you advocating the military having a larger role in policy? The constitution specifically has the military working for the civilian government, under the command of a civilian Commander In Chief. Remember that Eisenhower said beware the military-industrial complex. Now, if you’re point is you’d trust the guy in your foxhole before you’d trust a politician, isn’t that what the poll refelects?
