Tanning Tax Will Fund Obamacare

tanning bed tax

By FITSNews || A new ten percent “tanning tax” went into effect nationwide last week, with the revenue – an estimated $2.7 billion over the coming decade – being shoveled into the black hole that is President Barack Obama’s new socialized medicine law.

The “tanning tax” obviously represents just a fraction of the $570 billion worth of tax increases included in “Obamacare,” which also imposes unconstitutional mandates and levies fines on Americans who do not purchase health insurance – fines that could reach up to 2.5 percent of their annual income.  On top of that, middle class families will face dramatically higher health care premiums.

So yeah … whether you visit a tanning bed or not, you’re going to end up paying for this.

On average, tanning bed visits cost between $7-15, however many salons offer monthly passes as a way of enticing customers to pay them more frequent visits.  Peak tanning season is January through May, so it will be some time before the true impact of the new tax is felt.

Obamacare supporters say the tax is justified because tanning bed users are more likely to develop skin cancer.  They are hoping the tax will be a deterrent, but not too much of a deterrent, obviously.

Frankly, we view this tax as the latest example of government sticking its grubby paws where they don’t belong – costing people jobs in the process.

    There will be so many taxes before Obama leaves office (barring a Republican sweep in the mid-terms) that you will think he is taxing sunlight tanning.

    Countryboy,

    It has been decided. You are not very bright. While I agree we need to reduce certain tax burdens, we also need to make cuts that make sense to match or have revenue to make up for that. Example, when the Republicans pushed to do away with the grocery tax, they didn’t account for lost revenue or make cuts, and that generated 600 million. They instead allowed local governments to add hospitality ad local option tax to restaurants. Well guess what genius, when the economy went South (thank you 8 years of Republican leadership) people stopped eating out (bye bye tax revenue) and began shopping at grocery stores more (no tax). So while it’s easy to make the statement of reduce taxes and reduce spending, you have to do it. The deficit grew tremendously under Reagan and W, and everyone seems to forget this. Remember, the last balanced budget was the Clinton administration, and all R’s wanna talk about is him getting a hummer…so what. Bush 1 got us started in the Middle East, and W kept it going, price tag….Trillions and lives. Now go back to collecting your SSI and Medicaid and try using some research next time you run your flap.

    Health care reform will equal 1/3 the impact of the Bush tax cuts. Oh I forgot all those billions of jobs that those tax cuts created…but wait…

    Never has there been a clearer example of Obama and the Democrat party welfare race’s racism towards working whites. How about a 10% tax on MD 20/20??…

    @kid,

    That is why Rush calls it the caucasian tax. Not going to take long for someone to sue for the indirect discrimination that this tax has. Not sure I have ever known a black person that goes to a tanning salon.
