“The Face of the New South” the cover story proclaims.
While the article details Haley’s improbable rise from fourth-place challenger to GOP front-runner (and the scandals she dodged to secure the SCGOP gubernatorial nomination), this is a national piece – meaning the emphasis is more on what Haley’s rapid rise does for Republicans at the national level.

Eager to shed their image as the party of old white men, national Republicans are salivating. “The GOP has long struggled with expanding the base of our party,” says Nick Ayers, executive director of the Republican Governors Association (RGA). Haley offers “a big chance for us to bring ethnic minorities into the party.” In Haley, the GOP has found a candidate who not only has consistently espoused conservative dogma—small government, lower taxes, less regulation—but one who appeals to multihued, 21st-century America. When Ayers met her, he immediately grasped her potential. “She had core principles she was unwavering on,” he says. “I thought it would be icing on the cake that she had darker skin and was Indian-American.”

Last time we checked Haley was a person, not a product – and to her credit she hasn’t made a big deal about either her gender or ethnicity.
Haley faces off against Democratic nominee Vincent Sheheen in November. She currently enjoys a 12-point lead in the race, according to the latest Rasmussen reports poll.

Newsweek is a liberal rag. One must always keep that in mind when reading their articles and particularly keep in mind that they will try to slant their coverage in a way that very negatively reflects upon Republicans and conservatives. They are at a loss when trying to understand people such as Haley and Palin.

Countryboy, you are a genius! I hadn’t considered this possibility. Instead of going for a 2nd term as SC Governor, Haley challenges Graham in the 2014 primary, defeats him and goes on to win the general election in a landslide. She becomes an instant hero to the bulk of the (non-RINO) Republican base and becomes a serious contender to be the 2020 Republican Presidential candidate. This all would be enough to insure that Florida Watching and Balsak remain in a state of insanity well into the next decade!
PS – I just returned from watching a movie called “Winter’s Bone”. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Analyst-Don’t bet more than a nickel that Nikki Haley won’t have a 20+ point lead on the Obama-Sheheen-Greene ticket on Nov.2nd.Barrett came within 20,000 votes of getting what Sheheen got in the primary to run 2nd. To Nikki. As far as analizing goes, I beleve Nikki got almost 100,000 more votes than Sheheen. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that a lot of Demos, Indeps. and many loyal Repubs.voted in the Primary for the next Governor of SC-Nikki Haley. Numbers are what they are.
