2010: We Still Need Roads

By FITSNews ||”Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”

This line from Back to the Future – quoted memorably by Ronald Reagan in his 1986 State of the Union address – helped shape America’s perception of the future a quarter century ago.  Of course that perception was based on where America seemed to be headed at the time, which was “up, up and away.”

Today?

We’re all staring down … at our smart phones, iPods and other portable electronic devices.  Oh, and none of our cars are even remotely as cool as the DeLorean DMC-12 (which can be had today for a song if you know the right people).

Anyway, this Monday is July 5, 2010 – the date punched into the DeLorean time machine on its final voyage of the original Back to the Future movie (which, incidentally, was the top-grossing film of 1985).  Why July 5?  Well, that’s the day that the movie – which studio executives originally wanted to call “Spaceman from Pluto” – debuted in North America.

So, now that “the future” is here … where are our hover cars?  And what about those silver metallic glasses and reflective clown pants Doc Emmett Brown was wearing?  And where are our “Mr. Fusion” portable power devices (which run on banana peels and day old beer)?

Alas, we’ll have to wait on all of that, it appears ..

Damn sure do need roads. For certain in Chesterfield County where our sorry assed reps aren’t putting us on the list. Yep, that be She-heen and Jennings. Oh, and I forgot our used car salesman Ted Vick. 3 worthless Amigo’s.

Or it was October 21, 2015 – like Back to the Future II says. Facts are troublesome things and you never seem to get them right.

I’ve linked the end of Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2 for everyone else’s benefit.

Please note actress Claudia Wells plays Jennifer in Part 1 and Elizabeth Shue plays Jennifer in Part 2.

The part about July 5 2010 was a Photoshop hoax that was making the rounds. It’s not accurate. I might try some research before posting these types of things in the future.

Except, the “future date” everyone is talking about is the date they travel to at the beginning of the SECOND MOVIE.

In the first movie they travel 30 years back. In the second movie they travel 30 years forward.

The actual “future date” they travel to second movie is October 21st, 2015:
