By FITSNews || State Rep. Nikki Haley is South Carolina’s newly-minted GOP gubernatorial nominee after crushing U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett in the Palmetto state’s GOP runoff on Tuesday.
It’s the latest high point in what has been a meteoric rise for Haley, who just two months ago was languishing in fourth place in most polls.
Haley’s huge win not only positions her as the favorite to succeed S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford next January, but it also means that she could take the scandal-scarred governor’s place as a rising national star in the Republican Party. Also, should she defeat Democratic nominee Vincent Sheheen in November, Haley would become South Carolina’s first female governor as well as its first minority governor.
Haley – who barely missed winning the GOP nomination two weeks ago – thrashed Barrett by nearly a 2-to-1 margin. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, she was up 65 to 35 percent over the Congressman, whose campaign was never able to escape from the shadow of his 2008 vote in favor of the TARP bailout.
For her part, Haley has brushed aside two allegations of infidelity as well as recent reports that she failed to disclose income that she received from a company that had business before the state of South Carolina.
Just call her “Teflon Nikki …”

All you State, County and local government employees, eg., teachers, law enforcement, ems, etc., kiss your jobs good bye!!
Stupid is as stupid does!! You cannot run a government on libertarian/teabagger ideologies!!
For you people that can’t afford to send your kids to private schools, don’t count on vouchers to make up the difference, you still won’t be able to afford it and the public schools will only get worse. Its a tax credit, meaning you don’t get the money until you front the money. Tax credit=government assistance!!
Its no wonder why SC is at the bottom of everything good and at the top, in the news for everything bad. It because you are really, really, stupid and fell for the ‘cut taxes, government, etc., bullshit’.
Hope you enjoy your next trip to the DMV and have to take a day off work just to renew your drivers license or tags or have to wait hours on that ambulance, fire or law enforcement to show up!!

By the sanctifying sacrament of GOP selection, Ms. Haley is now beyond all sin. It is the cleansing ceremony of conservative choice. It is now plain and simple treason for a Republican to utter a word of criticism against her.
You may approach her now–deified–prostrate on your bellies.
The lucky among you may get to confer closely in similar stance.

The emails………….(Look what Pearson sent, Davenport, the other dude)
Plus all of the phone calls………..
Plus all of the white SUV state plate parkings at Sic’s………
Plus people at the State House talking about it for years……..
Plus Marchant really sticking his neck out………..
Plus Nikki’s refusal to release text, phone evidence………
Plus Nikk’s repeated denials, forgetting, didn’t know, too busy, “its a work in progress”………….
A reasonable person would conclude something was “inappropriate.”

Re:
“All you State, County and local government employees, eg., teachers, law enforcement, ems, etc., kiss your jobs good bye!!”
If you have one of those GOB jobs thats draws a check and does no work, (thousands in our state) then you should prepare to kiss the check goodbye. As for Education, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Rescue, EMS and other dedicated to serving the good, expect a raise. We’re gonna divvy up the stolen money, and put it back where it was supposed to go in the beginning.
It was a 300K plus turn-out. I don’t think Sheheen can deal with that. But who knows? Things can change overnight.

I think Haley will have time to release those emails now, since I’ve heard Sheheen will ask for them. And it’ll be pretty hard to run a campaign on transparency if you refuse to be transparent. Maybe there will be nothing there, but I think we’ll now get the chance to find out.

Florida, I have been the chief information officer of more than one enterprise. Unless the company suspects you of criminal activity or espionage, you have little chance of getting the information. We already had one SC councilman think he was entitiled.
http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/110804
In 1999, after having my immediate supervisor dismissed for an inappropriate comment, (it was BS by the bitch brigade, he was a damn good manager), I was asked to restore his email box so the interim manger could look through it. The previous manager had just been through a divorce, and had been seeing a psychiatrist for depression. I suspected many of his emails might be very personal. I put the mailbox under permanent archive, removing all administrative rights, and enforcing detail audits for permission changes. I told the new manager I could not hand over the mailbox. He explained to me that the mail is company property. I told him that I agreed with him, and that with the legal department’s permission I would restore the email. End of story. Legal told me to hold the archive securely for 1 year and then destroy it. Interim was just a nosy bastard like so many of you.

No liberal would ever back Haley. That is of course if they vote by the issues and congeniality. She needs to worry about disenfranchising Conservatives. There are many conservatives out there that have had it with Sanford and his do nothing agenda. I consider myself one of these conservatives. I personally believe tea-party mentality is not practical. It has never been successfully implemented in running a state. Look at Sanford’s reign how much has our state improved in national rankings? None, if anything we’ve dropped. Our state has no money, and we almost cut education and other essential programs recently; but we haven’t raised our income taxes in 50+ years. We need a practical government not an absent government. As a conservative I want limited government, but Haley is unproven in only serving 6 years in office with a shady voting record that doesn’t really establish her position due to lack of experience. I am seriously considering voting for Sheheen over four more years of failed policies.
Also its easy to see people don’t vote on the issues, but on popularity, sex, and other bandwagon reasons. Haley and Connor have the same talking points, but Connor was crushed by Ard. Also, Good Ole Boy Wilson made the cut with voters, despite the demagoguery of the tea party trying to tarnish him by blaming Sanford’s problems with the state on Good Ole Boys who hate Sanford.

she-heen polls. he knows he’s got a slim to none fighting chance, and certainly not probable unless something really shakes up nikki’s trajectory. whatever could that be??? hmmmm…..
she-heen’s dilemma is that if the calls for “transparency” re: the alleged infidelity come from his camp, he will risk and likely off-put those in the electorate who might actually consider a change in their vote in his favor (if enough evidence / proof ever does come out to show she’s a bald faced cheater and a liar) as a result.
and, at this point, that’s a big IF. sic willie has made his peace and gone dark (though with more cards in hand, one would guess) and would likely be uncooperative to any national journalist inquiries (unless they managed to produce the aforementioned incriminating photo). my bet is at this point, he’ll just ride it out.
we all know nikki will hide behind whatever excuse she can conjure, i mean, defend herself against these worthless, defaming (though somehow not worthy of a lawsuit) claims and not one person or entity can force her hand for any more information, state owned or otherwise. she can sit back and wait for the chorus of “dirty politics” to reach feverish pitch, and keep on rolling.
it seems there are too many improbable stars that would have to align in order to substantiate the credible, but as yet unsubstantiated, claim of sic wille, to take nikki down.
so it looks like it might be game over, despite the long painful election season ahead.
would be curious to others’ pov. and, if you’re a believer in nikki, this post isn’t intended as flame bait. i am actually interested to hear how others think this might play out. apologies in advance if you find my logic illogical.

What is wrong with the citizens of this State, Haley is an opportunist playing on the irrational fears of an under educated and ill informed electorate. Barrett may be far from Mensa material, but at very least he wasn’t selling IDEOLOGY. This is a legislative State, no consensus, no agenda, no meaningful reform. Sure she will cut services and budgets but with the issues facing SC, that is like putting a band-aid on a severed limb.… Congratulations
And by the way, I know Leighton Lord, he was well intentioned, extremely intelligent and very well qualified, but somehow we just nominated 2nd rate lawyer whose greatest achievement was actually passing the bar!
I weep for the future, and the GOP just lost my vote!
Oh and while I am here, Mr. Folks, if you can’t prove you assertions, you truly are a sad person.
By Truth Seeker June 23, 2010 at 1:58 am
RESEARCH BEFORE YOU VOTE!
Haley is NOT for the people of SC. She is for big corporations and even bigger government. You should do a comparison of the issues sections of her and Sheheen’s websites. Besides her vagueness in explaining the details of her plan on each issue, it simply mirrors sound bites from tea party extremists … stomp on civil rights by letting our already incompetent and corrupt police department detain anyone they “suspect” of being an illegal immigrant, ensure your job can fire you for no reason at all and prevent you from suing your doctor for malpractice. Although, I’m not surprised about her stance on healthcare, given her ties to the medical industry.
Feed your mind people. Research voting records and see how much she didn’t vote, or even show up! Then see what she did vote for when she decided to show up.
Sheheen is on the right track. Now’s the time for SC to be the leader in a new energy source for our nation. In a time where our Gulf Coast is crippled from the effects of corporate greed, shouldn’t a new energy source at least be listed among Haley’s issues? Increase teacher pay and decrease class size? I’m all for it. Preserve our beautiful rivers, beaches and parks? … what’s so bad about that? Sheeheen’s plan is detailed and makes sense for anyone who is smart enough to pay attention to our state’s problems.
Think twice before voting for Haley. You could be voting for someone who won’t help you, but will help greedy corporations and politicians. More conflicts of interest. More Bush in SC.
By M. Nixon June 23, 2010 at 4:37 am
It’s evident by these postings that you tea baggers don’t know the difference between federal and state tax cuts.
Do you actually believe a tax cut equates to more money in your pocket? Are you kidding me? Broad-based tax cuts, at the state level, typically provide little to no economic stimulation (private or public sector). At the state level, tax cuts are nothing more than glorified tradeoffs, which exchange assets for liabilities. Ultimately one job is created at the expense of another. As a result, state employees, AND workers employed by private firms under state contracts are snipped.
Tax-cut advocates believe, in theory, that a cut will induce job growth, which will increase state revenue; however, most businesses, small and large, save the money or tender it as a derivative to shareholders (often outside of the state).
SC budget crises arise due to unwarranted tax cuts, which devalue SC’s GDP. The key to economic viability is not revenue (tax cuts) alone, but also, allocation and timing. You fools need to drop the voodoo economics because the market does not always know best. If you’re still in denial, ask yourself, why you chose a fixed rate mortgage over an adjustable rate mortgage.

I most definitely am not a Republican conservative, I’m a center-left libertarian Democrat. You may find that a contradiction, but what I find to be more of a contradiction is people who say they believe in freedom but decry Folks’ “letting” people of whatever political stripe express themselves.
In a sense, every political utterance or bit of written word that exists is “propaganda”. Including your post. And this one. Doesn’t mean they are not heartfelt, however. But even if they aren’t, total information control is the mark of totalitarianism and cults.
If your “family values” are all about controlling people’s thoughts adn self-expression, denying our sexual natures and lying to yourself and others for the sake of “party unity”, I say fuck you and the goddamn sactimonious ass you rode in on.

Good job Sikki – ( Folks and Haley) – your little plan worked. Are you going to keep the charade up until Novemeber – you know, Willie hinting about what he knows and Haley standing above the fray? anybody who bought that bullshit ploy is just plain dumb. Wake up, ya dumbasses in SC!

Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm. That is one fine looking woman. Nothing in SC is going to change as the result of any elected official, so we might as well have a good one to look at. Thanks for that, Nikki.

Wait, maybe I’m wrong – it may have been she said she will resign IF she becomes Governor, not Republican candidate for Governor… either way, it’s still time for you to bring what you have on her out in the open. I would rather see the Sheehan go in than Haley. Our state cannot any more National embarassment.

Sheheen is from a prominant Camden family of polititions going back 40-50 years. If he is elected, SC will continue to have the “good old boys” network….kingmaker. Let’s do away with the status quo and get some “new blood”. Nikki Haley is a TRUE fiscal conservative. Let’ show the nation SC is progressive and not hung up on silly social issues.

Sadly, people are not really voting for Nikki, they are voting for Palin and Mitt through Nikki. It is all self-serving. Palin wants more baby bears, Mitt wants to own SC, Haley wants another state position where she doesn’t have to show up. Don’t forget, she gets busy, and when she gets busy she loves to let those state meetings slip.

In this waste of a state, the majority party voters are so stupid and easily manipulated that a scumbag like you could set them up & get your candidate elected – all while increasing your public profile and traffic to your little blog. The best you’re ever going to do is medium fish in a completely insignificant pond, but have at it.
If Knotts has pictures, they’re coming out before November. If they don’t come out, the entire story you told was a lie. I hope it’s the first, but whatever happens I’ll be getting my info from somewhere else.

When Sarah speaks, people listen. That is real people. That is real American people. Her support for Haley moved her from fourth to first in a matter of days. The liberals should speak kindly of Sarah from now on or they will enter the dustbin of history real soon. The liberal ideas of total government, no freedom, poverty enforced by government edict, and a kowtowing to any and all foreign regimes, does not sit well with Americans, liberals notwithstanding. Now you know!

******************************************************************
Maybe they’re removing slanderous and obscene comments simply because they realize that a fresh wind is blowing in South Carolina now. The era of whispering campaigns, mudslinging and baseless innuendo has come to an end. The era of MAMA GRIZZLIES & PAPA GRIZZLIES has arrived. And isn’t it grand and wonderful!

Glad Haley won. I am looking forward to another 4 years just like the last 8 years. With Gov Haley getting about as much support as Gov Sanford, the Legislature will run the state and keep things moving. I am sure Sen Knotts will be all smiles and support Gov Haley. Maybe Knotts will use the photo of Willey and Haley to to become the Gov behind the scenes.
By Florida Watching June 23, 2010 at 9:42 am
“Ms Haley campaigned on “transparency” but refused to release her income tax information until the night before the runoff vote. It was then discovered that she had not reported over $40K in “consulting” income. “I broke no law” she was quoted in her defense. Just basic ethics, but no law.” From NYT comment.
By Florida Watching June 23, 2010 at 9:46 am
“She also voted against Gov Sanford’s failed attempt to reject the state’s share of stimulus funds – though she claimed to have voted in support of Sanford. When presented with the facts she said she “did not know the state could reject the funds.” Showing incredible ignorance of what was then the biggest issue in the legislature.” Same place.

Doris…what’s up?
Whippersnapper, I don’t know much about grizzlies, but I can see the state of South Carolina’s economy in 2-4 years of Palinesque commitment to solving problems, and grizzly is probably a pretty good word.
But as a left-libertarian, I voted for Nikki Randhawa Haley in both the primary and the runoff, not because I wanted her to win in November, but because I wanted her to run. I’m all for transparency and openness in government; but that starts at home Ms. Haley.
If the people of South Carolina care about things like voting record, understanding of the issues and so on, Sheheen will mop up the floor with Haley in the debates. Fortunately for Haley, they probably couldn’t care less.

I really get a kick out of all y’all who post so seriously and all intellectual about how this person or that person is going to change things. Those of you who analyze the candidates’ position papers and speeches and try to relate those words to some future actions really crack me up (no pun intended).
Here’s some friendly advice: Take all this for the entertainment and comedy that it is, and take a chill pill. This is SC politics. It was created to provide laughs.
By thesushi June 23, 2010 at 1:11 pm
For those who are backing Haley, I hope you’ve got your lunch packed. The politics world is no different in SC than any other state. It’s just presented differently.
In the South, folks and Folks wear their opinion on their sleeve. They buy the pols who say that too, unfortunately. But this time around, something’s not meshing. PR campaigns are in full swing, selling you the burden of upholding a narrative that can at any time fall apart.
It’s a risk they’re willing to make with your future.
Hey, Sheheen is no prize. Will knows the score. His story hasn’t changed at all, and the only thing that separates the press from a huge story is their inability to simply stand up to the popular bandwagon. Haley won’t release her records, so the press then buys that?
All I want is a comparison for the two myself. I got Will’s side of the records, and want to ensure that the other side confirms it. Instead, claims of FOIA protections…
From Shampoo exemptions from hair salon laws…
…and transparency in roll call votes…laws…
Hey, if Haley was working on crime laws, or state security laws, I’d accept that. I’d even back Haley if she said that’s what it was about.
But instead, if you look at the record, off-season, District 87, nothing to hide except late night calls. It ain’t rocket science.
By Will Folks = joke June 23, 2010 at 1:43 pm

You are not the story ,,but you are some one who has never dealt in a decent and sophisticated company. Criticism Haley on issues/hypocrisy/transparency etc etc – no problem. But you need to learn how to participate in an ethical clean manner. The only thing that comes out of you is scandal innuendo and smear and trash. Will and mrchant is old story…thosen tricks have been tried and people of SC have slapped them back resoundingly. Let us move on. In any case even if some thing comes up as your “hoping and praying” we will deal with it then. Why keep repeating every single minute like child wanting candy who keeps crying mama. Some people have accused you of being on psychotic drugs, addicted to porn because of the kind of language you are using, escaped from mental asylum etc etc.. Grow up as matured person and prove every one of these accusers wrong. But I doubt it is going to happen.

And why should Haley release her records? To satisfy you? Since it is obvious that you are a Sheheen supporter, short of giving up and refusing to run this fall, I wonder what Haley will do that will satisfy you.
Folks made his allegations (Marchant also piped in… tee hee hee), it is imperative on them to prove their allegations or forever hold their peace. In America, the guilty is assumed innocent until proven guilty. The burden does not lie on Haley to “release her records” (as you call it) in order to prove she is innocent of the allegations made against her. And how exactly is she going to prove that with Sheheen and the liberal media poring through her records, and looking for anything they could smear her with.
I am willing to bet that if she were to release her records, the conversation will quickly shift from infidelity accusations to “Nikki did this… Nikki did that…” It is only a political novice that will fall for such a trap. But how about a trade-off: Nikki will release her records if Sheheen will also submit to releasing his records (email etc…). At least, they all will get dirt on each other.

I am an independent voter and will vote for the best cadidate and not neccessarily Haley.
Again I have no problem with your raising all the issues that you have in your above post. More speed to you. I agree some of those issues may be of concern to some voters. But people knew about all those and still voted for her. Democrats will again raise those issues and public will decide. It is as simple as that. Why fret about it every single minute and stoop to name calling ?
The problem with this website now is personal animosity of Will Folks with Haley. He will continue the slime fest because controversy brings traffic. Most of this mud throwing is being done personally by him. He is looking for cash in trash. he is also supposedly writing his so called book where he will again fantasize about his affair just to sell some books. Will folks has found the formula and will continue to milk this controversy just like “National Enquirer”. He claims to be Christan but does not have an iota of Christian values . It is all about publicity, ego, jealousy and greed.

AUGUSTA CHRONICLE EDITORIAL ON SC GOVERNOR RACE
Welcome to the big leagues
Runoff victory secures place for Nikki Haley on national stage
Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff
Thursday, June 24,2010
They call the last player taken in the National Football League draft each year “Mr. Irrelevant.”
CommentE-mail

Change that. It’s now Andre Bauer.
The South Carolina lieutenant governor, who came in dead last in the June 8 primary for governor, apparently thinks he’s denying Republican nominee Nikki Haley something of value by cattily withholding his support for her in the November general election.
In truth, he may now be the most irrelevant man in South Carolina politics, right below surprise Democratic Senate nominee Alvin Greene.
Note to Andre: Nikki Haley needs you about as much as she needs another Will Folks blog.
Ms. Haley not only won the Republican nomination, and the inside track to the governor’s office, by a wide margin on Tuesday — after nearly beating three guys outright in the June 8 election — but in the process, she has no doubt become a star on the national stage.
That’s because anyone who knows her realizes she is precisely what concerned, conservative voters are looking for this year: a rock-ribbed, fiscally responsible, Constitution-respecting, throw-the-bums-out-along-with-their-nonsense reformer.
And endorsements from Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney didn’t hurt.
Nikki Haley is now a player in the big leagues.
Not only can she help bring respectability — and star power — back to South Carolina politics, but there may be no one more deliciously fitting to do so: To get the nomination, Ms. Haley had to crawl through foulness no good person should ever have to endure in order to serve her fellow citizens in public office. The South Carolina All-Boys’ Club tried every scurrilous trick in the obscene South Carolina Political Playbook to smear this woman. They had no proof, and voters would have none of it.
“South Carolina people are done with this,” she said at one debate, regarding a Bauer campaign official who, like blogger Folks, claimed an affair with Haley. “We are done with the dirty politics that has given the state a bad name.”
Maybe with Nikki Haley, the state has a good name now.

Our Haley,
Who are not in the Mansion yet
Hallowed be thy difficult-to-pronounce Indian name.
Your kingdom may come undone
Your will might not get done
In both houses at the state house on Gervais.
Give us this day
Your daily honesty and truth!
And forgive us for maintaining reasonable doubt about you.
As we will always forgive folks who are open and transparent.
Lead us not into political division with your bud Sarah Palin,
But deliver a bright economic future for all, not just the GOP.
