Firing Squads Are Back!

firing squad

By FITSNews || Go Utah!

Or rather “go Ronnie Lee Gardner,” the convicted Death Row inmate who opted to meet his maker the old-fashioned way – by firing squad.  Gardner was executed by a team of marksmen on Friday, the first time the state has used a firing squad for an execution in 14 years.

Gardner was sentenced to death for killing an attorney during a 1985 escape attempt from a Salt Lake City courthouse.  Utah did away with the firing squad in 2004, but Gardner was permitted to chose that method of execution because his conviction pre-dated passage of the new law.

Frankly, we think this country needs a few (actually, a lot) more firing squad executions and electrocutions.

After all, lethal injection is for pussies.

Obviously, we support capital punishment – we just oppose the pansy ass way it is currently implemented.  Seriously, people … you can’t call the death penalty a deterrent if it’s only carried out fifty times a year, mostly in Texas and Virginia.  And if we’re not actually going to execute people en masse Hammurabi-style, it’s just not worth the massive expense.

    For capital punishment to truly be effective it needs to be public. Unfortantly that has not happened since 1928 in Indiana. If you want to take it one step further, put it on pay per view and have the proceeds go to the victims and to defry the indivual states correction budget. The question will be would it sell? Given the current state of our society I would be willing to bet that some, especially the first few and then high profile executions would draw a surprisingly high number of viewers/sells.

    There would be two positive results:1)various state correction systems could receive additional income that could be used to enhance security, construct better facilities and pay guards more for the risk they take to guard dangerous criminals; 2)another positve is that large number of inmates are young people. Young people who had absolutely no comprehension of the consequences that would be the result of their violent actions. I would argue that over time we would see a decline in the number of incidents of violent crimes as people came to understand the potential diasterous ending that could result for them.

    The question is who would be willing to take that leap and be the first to broadcast it? The complications and legal entanglements could be many, but if it ever came to pass then we may finally see the full benifit that capital punishment should give to our society…teg

    Now: the executed criminal’s body should be blown up with dynamite and the scattered parts and pieces should be eaten by hogs.

    Bread and Circuses gets old, Dammit. I want a Spectacle.

    Death by firing squad requires that all rifles shall be loaded except for one that shoots only a blank. This method never reveals who actually fired the live rounds. So, you can only guess if you were the one not sending any lead down range to the target. I guess you could aim for the balls and watch to see if it was your round that racked him. I would say that a half dozen 30-06 rounds are a lot cheaper than a handful of cyanide tablets or 60 seconds of 3 phase 440 volts. Then again a boiled hemp knotted rope is the cheapest of all methods, because you can use it over again. May God have mercy on your soul!

    Will, I agree, but there is a problem:
    You are trusting the douchebag prosecutors, judges, detectives, etc with your life. Maybe they will deem adultery a capital offense? Careful what you wish for!
