By FITSNews || Like Miguel de Cervantes’ famous protagonist El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha (a.k.a. Don Quixote), U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett certainly appears to be a knight-errant on a fool’s errand.
With S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley poised to trounce him on June 22 to capture the Republican gubernatorial nomination, Barrett inexplicably plods onward – issuing daily press releases (dubbed “honest differences”) that seek to contrast his Congressional record with Haley’s record as a state lawmaker.
Barrett has consistently supported the pro-life position, his campaign says, while Haley hasn’t. Other releases claim that Barrett has consistently opposed the Obama stimulus and voted against wasteful Washington budgets, whereas Haley voted twice to accept stimulus dollars and supported every state budget until she decided to run for governor.
Are any of the hits having an impact?
In a word? No.
And how could they?
“Bailout Barrett” is just another cookie cutter politician managed by Columbia’s status quo “hack-o-cracy.” Even if voters did accept the premise of his comparisons, they would likely stay home as opposed to voting for him – which doesn’t help him eat into Haley’s huge lead.
Speaking of which, Haley’s internal polling shows her with a 2-to-1 lead over Barrett, and sources tell FITS that a number of establishment Republicans are on the verge of throwing their weight behind her campaign now that the handwriting is clearly on the wall.
Will S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster – who finished in third place in last Tuesday’s primary – be among them? That’s certainly one of the hot rumors making the rounds in Palmetto political circles, although McMaster was in the mountains all weekend and reportedly hasn’t made his decision yet.
Both Haley and Barrett have called him personally, however, seeking his endorsement.

The tea party is a joke full of demagogues who don’t know anything about government, but use passion rather than ration. An example of this is “I don’t like to pay taxes, so I think we shouldn’t have any taxes.” You can cut spending all you want, but without revenue the state won’t be able to sustain itself; cops are already getting paid next to nothing and our roads and education system sucks. Another example is Barrett has been rated the 2nd most conservative congressman in Washington by the American Conservative Union, but morons like Folks, the tea party, and others use the phrase “RINO” to describe him. The middle class people who make up the tea party and despise TARP do not realize how close we came to financial armageddon in the fall of 2008. With the market dropping 1000 points in one day and the collapse of Lehman Brothers, there was a run on the banks and their stocks dropped to the housing fiasco. If confidence was not restored in the banks in the form that they had enough money to survive, we would all be up the creek without a paddle. I am not in favor of any bailouts, but the first one was necessary and to dispute that just shows one’s ignorance in finance. So this shows the tea party’s ignorance in holding one issue against Barrett who is a conservative; whereas, Haley hasn’t done ANYTHING. Alexis de Tocqueville said democracy (even though were a republic not a democracy) would fail in America, because the tyranny of the majority. This is clear in SC with the tea party, who does not understand anything about government or economics, but is merely voting off of personal passion which is DANGEROUS.

Uh, oh! That is a dangerous place to be for SC politicians. The National press will read this as code:
“hiking the Appalachian Trail.” Henry needs to be at the beach looking for tar balls.

Would you have allowed our baking system fail out of ideological purity? Should he have a “BNK” stitched to his shirt?
Got it. Teabaggers want four more years of Sanfraud in a skirt. Can’t wit for Nikki Palin to cut all GOVT funds to her teabagging sycophantic nutty libertarian good squad. Can’t wait for the videos from the Clemson quad to emerge of Nookie Palin.
Yea, I can see Bamberg from my porch!

You obviously couldn’t understand. Barrett has character, is consistent with his principles and his word. He’s not one to quit, especially when there’s so very much riding on the outcome of this election.
You’ve managed to throw enough mud to keep the electorate busy about everything else, except the issues and the backgrounds of each candidate. A principles individual would have either shut up, or shown proof-positive in making such allegations. You did neither.
Now we have an electorate poised to elect Sanford’s ‘chosen one’. Four more years of bickering, deception and do-nothing governance. Congrads guy. Hope you enjoy your midnight visits to the mansion.

Gresham Barrett is a liar and a fool. As a US representative he has NEVER authored a piece of legislation which was signed into law. He is an obstructionist liberterian twit plain and simple. He is just the man to follow Governor Bassethound’s tradition of vetoes idiocy and public piety. Gresham Barrett is utterly ignorant of the basic principles of Christianity-his bybul leaves out the Beatitudes- and thinks 3 years of service (no combat duty) in the artillery makes him competent to be a chief executive. Lord help us!
Just out of curiousity, does Gresham think that ultimate bastion of South Carolina Consuvatuv Christianity, Ole Strom, a proven whoremonger and miscegenationist, represents the same brand of “conservative family values” man as that staunch libertarian idol, Governor Bassethound and of course Gresham himself?
“South Carolina is too small to be a nation and too large to be a lunatic asylum.” Judge Petigru, truer words were never spoken :)
