By FITSNews || Nikki Haley shredded the opposition in Tuesday’s SCGOP gubernatorial primary, falling just shy of the fifty percent plus one majority she needed to claim her party’s nomination outright.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Haley had captured 49 percent of the vote compared to 22 percent for U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett, 17 percent for Attorney General Henry McMaster and 12 percent for Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer.
Assuming there are no “dangling chads” out there, Haley will face Barrett in a GOP runoff election on June 22. Well, that’s assuming Barrett doesn’t concede the race – which is a distinct possibility given the seemingly insurmountable margin and the pressure he is under from Republicans to stand down as a result of it.
Either way, it appears that Haley is poised to do battle this November with State Senator Vincent Sheheen, who captured the Democratic gubernatorial nomination on Tuesday with an emphatic win over State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex.

Wow. A candidate that is a floozy, pushed by a guy running a website that had an inappropriate relationship with said candidate, is the candidate for the bible beating right wing of the state. The irony is awesome, unless you start releasing information about your so called relationship with this floozy. If not, then you are nothing more than the political whore Haley claims not to be.

IT appears that tonight is my last night on FITS NEWS. It was good while it lasted. I will vote for anyone with the exception of Haley. She showed her colors long before the Folks release. This website is clearly all about supporting Haley – so you are supporting that Barrett concede the runoff. All it would take is to have all voters that voted for the other candidates to do the same in the run-off. I know a bunch of voters that will not go back to Haley – I believe she is really guilty of adultery. Folks need to come very very clean or he has essentially lost this website and its credibility.

I think ya’ll just picked the female Sanford…should be an interesting two weeks to come. Wonder who will get Bauer and McMaster’s voters.
By thesushi June 8, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Dave…it’s not over. Barrett’s now got Haley as the only opponent. Just surviving, (4,000 votes) sets up two straight weeks of shoe dropping.
I mean, if Barrett is serious about winning (by losing tonight by nearly 111,000 votes)…It’s the only option. If he doesn’t have anything, then he might as well concede, before he’s isolated completely by the Haley camp.
Jake Knotts went full tilt bonkers, which makes the next leveled charge “reasonable” comparatively.
By Just Another SC Voter June 8, 2010 at 10:52 pm
49%! That’s awesome and nothing to scoff at. I am so proud of Nikki Haley. If it’s a run off which it looks like it will be, then please let Barrett know that WE are ready. Bring all you got. Will Folks is sitting on a lot better evidence than mere lie detector evidence. He gave a strong hint re what that evidence is when he made the show of having his regular computer’s hard drive go in for forensic scrutiny.
Haley had the chance to come clean in a gentle way, in a manner of her own choosing, and to throw herself on the mercy and forgiveness of the voters. She declined and indicted the honesty of Folks and his blog. There really only is one way out for Folks, and people are much less forgiving of an arrogant, lying adulteress.

I wonder if Barrett and Bauer can spell P-U-N-K-E-D?
Coz that’s what I think has been done to them.
Meanwhile, FOXNews reports that the Republican Governors Association is trying to force Gresham Barrett to pull out of the race.
Barrett not only has to worry about his own affairs, but about the truth coming out on the payoffs he got from the powers behind the corrupt City Government of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce [and Political Pay-off Clearing House].
It ain’t over ’til it’s O-V-E-R!

Oh please, Haley and Folks and Marchant concocted this scheme together and the goal was just what happened tonight, so congratulations.
Haley is in no way an outsider and the mere fact that she is portraying herself as one is just one more example of her dishonesty. Not only is she part of the establishment she keeps pretending is against her, but she is simply another Sanford. No one liked Sanford, so why the heck are they voting for this fraud?
I will gladly cast my vote for Sheheen this November.

The Republican Governors Association backs Haley in South Carolina
A surprisingly blunt press release from the Republican Governors Association all but calls for Rep. Gresham Barrett (R-S.C.) to stand down and let Nikki Haley start running for governor of South Carolina, after she missed the right to avoid a runoff by the narrowest of margins.
The statement from spokesman Tim Murtaugh:
The voters of South Carolina made a clear choice in Nikki Haley, notwithstanding the possibility of a runoff. The outcome is all but certain.
Nikki Haley withstood a barrage of innuendoes and slurs in the closing days of the primary season and persevered to the finish with dignity, determination and confidence. Moreover, receiving half of the votes against two other statewide incumbent Republicans and a sitting Congressman speaks volumes of her strength as a candidate and bodes very well for her in the General Election. We congratulate Nikki for her grit and determination.
Meanwhile, South Carolina Democrats have again served up the same old Washington, D.C.-style solution to any problem: expanded government. Vincent Sheheen promises more regulatory interference, bureaucratic red tape and impediments to free enterprise. Exactly what The Palmetto State does not need.
Message: Republicans are ready to celebrate their newest star.

well, now it’s really gonna get interesting, with the gop gov’s association calling for barrett to get out of the way in sc. the party, not surprisingly is coalescing and closing ranks behind “their” winner, since the shiny sheeheen won his side so handily.
which makes me think this kid named sic willie has played his cards unbelievably well. even though he’s confessed and shared enough to clear his name should have someone else broken the fling story, he didn’t go as far as he could have with what he has.
but, of course, it’s true that he and nikki did their fling thing, and he’s got the evidence in his hot little hands to back up, which he’s not so subtly mentioned a bunch of times like witnesses in place, actual text content as opposed to #’s, email content verified via hard drive, and a number of verifiable details that only a fling-ee could know. hell, he could even have a blue dress (ok, sorry – swipe at the original slick wille).
she knows it, as does every other insider with some brains in the state. and, as long as no one else is gonna come forward with an actual picture, (and that’s a big if, if the dems have it), it means our boy, sic is holding all the cards for the newly minted gop star and her chances in sc.
the term “hush money” couldn’t have been created for a more perfect scenario than this. i’m sure some “gentleman’s agreement” could be signaled, or some such thing. there’s just too much at stake, from a financial (millions in slush and influence) and reputation (a dem in the reddest of states in 2012???) standpoint for there not to be a “conversation with a resaonable man”…
so, you got to ask yourself one question….

its such a simple equation. you people are trying to make it way more complicated than it is. ITS SIMPLE. if 62% of SC republicans give mark sanford a favorable rating, with all the shame and embarrassment he brought on the state and 67% of SC republican believe haley’s outright denial of the affair stories, then its obvious that she would benefit from the story as it only increased her exposure and put her in a position to be a sympathetic figure, especially to women republican voters. she basically won the entire women’s vote. of course she is smarter and more capable than the other idiots who were running. but hey, either way, its either an indian or arab as next SC governor. What a day! It is indeed a great day for conservatives – the primaries have resulted in some really good candidates that are poised to give the Democrats the biggest drubbing of their lives!!
I am having lots of fun reading some of the comments here – especially from disappointed liberals. One (Ratfishtim @ 11:48pm) is begging Will Folks to at least admit that this was a plan concocted by the ‘evil genius’ Nikki to obtain sympathy votes. Ha! Ha! Ha! Do you realize she was leading in the polls before the allegations of infidelity started?
The icing on my cake is the defeat of Halter by Lincoln, even after the unions pumped in $10 million of member dues into helping Halter. It’s so hard being a liberal nowadays especially when Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have showcased the results of liberalism in its spend-and-tax glory – FAILURE and INCOMPETENCE!
But carry on hoping, liberals – the picture could still show up, a video of the one-night stand could still appera, pigs might still fly, and giraffes obtain doctoral degrees… Hope springs eternal as Paris Sailin will confess :).

Wanting a 50%+1 isn’t a definitive declaration. Care to show me and all others where I boasted that Nikki would win her primary outright? Go ahead.. we’re waiting. We’ve got ample time. Btw.. how are you going to feel, should Barrett concede? It’s likely that he will but I digress…
Oh and just a little something for you to mill over… I was always told that many “Doth protest too much” and typically resort to name calling (ex: lying adulteress ) smear tactic judgmental rants when they fear what they don’t understand. It is a true blue sign that they themselves are guilty of what they attempt to smear because simply put, the smearer can personally relate. Apparently Paris, that makes YOU a lying adulteress/adulterer. Wear that “Scarlet Letter” well my friend. You’d make Nathaniel proud.

I want true conservative leadership – not sloganeering, pandering and publicity stunts. One trip to the statehouse with pigs was enough (remember Will, you had to clean up that crap too – literally). I just want to know why my fellow conservatives lose their integrity when ‘their’ candidate lies and plays the sympathy card. Sanfraud lies and cheats and yet we say it’s ok because he’s a conservative. Haley lies (IF Will is telling the truth) and we say it’s ok because Sarah supports her and she’s a conservative. I just don’t get it. I watched Haley play politics on the House floor by using a balcony full of disabled kids to promote her political hopes. She’s nothing but a politician — a politician that will say the ‘right’ thing to her votes. She’s no better than Sanfraud and it looks like we’re all about to get lied to and screwed again. Will, if in fact you are telling the truth, and IF you do have any real evidence, please show it now. Don’t let this state be led by a liar again. Please. If you’re not telling the truth – then man up and let’s end this game now.

I suppose those crafty enough to keep the office of Governor a non-entity are gazing down now with satisfaction. We, of sound mind and body are thrust into the camp known as “undecided”. The grown ups have retreated to the master bedroom in exile while the teenagers have their party in the living room. Haley cannot seriously be considered someone who can work with the Legislature and her veto will avail her nothing. For a campaign which touted itself as a “Change for the People” what we really have is another Mexican stand off. Same old stuff, different day. One wonders when the electorate will awaken to the reality that this is not some sort of made for TV mini series. Elections have consequences. Sadly, we are yet again the victims of self inflicted wounds which may prove to be fatal. The old adage “the people get the government that they deserve” rears its ugly head and a good case of “Instant Karma” (no pun intended to the conveniently Methodist among us),is now operative and the wood pile has yet again another uninvited visitor.

I find it interesting that Haley is doing so well when the majority of people in South Carolina can not stand Sanford. Haley is a clone of Sanford but looks better in a dress. They agree of everything and Haley used Sanford’s picture and quotes on her internet site until he “hiked the Appalachian Trail”. Sanford has accomplished almost nothing in eight years except make enemies of the Legislature and help make South Carolina the butt of many a late night comedian’s jokes. So if Haley wins, what really changes? I thought the idea was to “Vote the bums Out”, not replace them with a clone. I am looking for change, not Sanford in a dress!

@TaylorSC – If Haley had simply denied and/or sidestepped the allegations – which she could have done easily – this issue would be dead right now. But by attacking WF the way she did, he has no choice but to prove his claims to protect his reputation. This site dies or becomes a sideshow without some proof.
I think this issue lives on. Haley will win and won’t step down unless there is a vid or dna evidence. If Haley’s lies concerning the story breaking and her relationship with WF and the late night calls don’t convince you – almost nothing will. No one would have believed lewinsky without the blue dress.
The fact of the matter is that people believe what they want to believe. We saw the poll numbers on what the repub primary voters believe. I’m very interested to see polling on the entire electorate.

So the argument seems to be about conservative “values.” The boys on the so called left say she is a “slut” with no values, which is anti right wing bible beater racist, etc. I am not sure what values the left really holds other than rape, pillage, and burn the huddled masses like they are modern day slave drivers. All politicians lie and that is just how it is going to be. In my humble and often right opinion, the value we need most right now is someone who knows how to not spend us into slavery and have some fiscal restraint, or at least the will to take on all the special interest affirmative action and welfare bullshit that has gotten us into this mess anyway. Let us not forget a president that everyone admired was having fun in the oval office with cigars, and you silly fucks want to talk about values. I’d take a slut who wants to save me some money by doing the right thing fiscally, than some dirtbag status quo Democrat who is just going to steal my money and give it to minorities who believe that welfare is good for them or special interests to firm up his political base. It is simple…how much do you want to have to pay to bend over and grab your ankles?

“So glad SC politics could brighten the pathetic lives of little liberals around the country, if just for awhile. Now please go play basketball with Obama, or have water gun fights, while grown up conservatives go about getting the country back on track.”
I agree, all people need to do is look at the last 8 years to know how successful we can be under Republican rule. No war, no debt, stock market was in great shape at the end of the last term, employment soring. Everyone is happy. And if you really want to see a shining example, just look at South Carolina. We’ve had Republicans in control of the House and Senate for how many years now? Plus the Executive Branch for the last two terms. And just look at us, our economy and reputation are the envy of the rest of the nation. Low unemployment, Company’s beating down the door to relocate here, stellar education system. What’s that saying we use to have around here. Oh yea, “thank god for Mississippi.” Well, were no longer saying that one are we? And we owe it all to the Republicans.
By Inherent Vice June 9, 2010 at 11:28 am
It’s hard to not laugh at all you Sanford haters. He would win again if he could run. The Democratic and Republican “leadership” both have ran out of time. They realize this.
Haley won re-election of her house seat with something like 83% of the votes cast in her last challenge. That means LOTS of Democrats voted for her.
Be afraid good ole boys. Be very afraid.
To all you progressives, we won’t tolerate any Shehanigans.

I vote my pocketbook and freedoms; not my bra and zipper. Too bad that some Republicans have taken on the lib Demo’s legacy of a lack of integrity and phony honesty via ‘sex, lies, and video tape’ personal behavior.
Large numbers of people across history have decided to support “the lesser of two evils.” We can choose socialism, Obama-care, loss of our constitutional rights, loss of our sovereignty, more and more government intrusion and control of our paychecks and personal lives as designed by the Democrat Party’s brand of statist BS – or we can choose to vote for the ones who at least ostensibly support public policy that will not destroy the few freedoms and options for independent happiness we have left.
Mr. Sheheen is not backing away from Obama or the Democrat platform on ANY issue. He is a sweet, smiling, nice-guy, big spending liberal who supports the Democrat agenda and voted for Obama, Gore, Kerry, Clinton and all the others who have lied and cheated on their wives and families PLUS SCREWED the entire country with their failed ‘big-government’ solutions to every problem.
At least the Republican sex frauds don’t think Obama Care, big Union bailouts; bogus global warming, 85% tax rates and race baiting are just fine for my future.
You can’t fool the people all the time. I will continue to vote my pocketbook and to protect my freedoms. You liberals can keep your ‘nice guy’ socialist who is much more dangerous behind closed doors than our Idiot sex starved conservatives! “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize.”

No one cares who she screws. Too bad she said she’d resign/withdraw if anyone comes forward with “proof.” Now the next six months will be a search for “proof,” whatever the F that means.
She could have just said, “Hey, I’ve made some mistakes — show me someone who hasn’t — if that matters to you, then don’t vote for me. But I love my husband and he loves me and I love my kids and I believe in God and His forgivness, and people are sick to death of this, so let’s talk about the issues.” And refused to talk about it anymore.
But — it is too late for that.
Either way, Will Folks is a despicable POS, Larry Marchant is an even bigger weiner POS, Jakie Knotts is a GIANT puss filled fat slob jabba the hut racist POS, and Bauer is a has been redneck used car salesman POS — in fact, all of them are hopefully on their way to the dung heap of irrelevance. THANK YOU, JESUS.
Sanford couldn’t get anything done — neither can Nikki Haley. But so what? If she can’t give us MAJOR restructuring — and she can’t, because the real power — McConnell, Harrell, Leatherman and the other GOBs — will block it — then I dont want State Government to do anything at all.
Grid lock looks a lot better than higher taxes and more government.
And besides it will soon be football season, so who gives a S? Go GAMECOCKS.

All of you ragging on Will Folks are comical. You sit their in your easy chairs talking about what a filthy person he is, and yet you keep on coming back to his Web site for more. I love the irony of this whole business. You know what I think? You’re addicted to it, and it’s extremely entertaining. I love it!
By Zuma Bound June 9, 2010 at 12:13 pm
Just Another SC Voter – You don’t wear condescension well because you lack the requisite intelligence to pull it off. And you’re really not the comic genius you clearly believe yourself to be for the same reason.
Paris Sailin has a valid substantive perspective, and he or she, unlike you, is clever about articulating it. Why not deal with the substance of what he or she has had to say, instead of constantly trying to find snarky ad hominem ways of attacking him or her?
Nikki Haley has a very real problem, one that Paris Sailin has carefully highlighted. The more that you fail to substantively address what he or she has had to say, and the more that you worry about finding [inarticulate and hardly] “clever” ways to riff on an idle comment made about popcorn (“No thanks to your popcorn. We pass as it’s stale. Time for you to ‘stalk’ another state. Take your big ‘D’ and Be gone. Your efforts obviously lacked kernel. LOL” [lacked kernel? What in the heck does that mean?]), rather than talk about the objective indicators that Nikki Haley is lying, the more you strike me as that iconic child whistling in the dark in order to better manage their fears about the unknown.
Nikki Haley won. It doesn’t mean that Paris Sailin has been wrong in what he or she has been saying about her. And it certainly doesn’t mean that Haley isn’t going to go down. Remember her promise to quit if and when concrete evidence that Will Folks and/or Larry Marchant have been telling the truth surfaces?
It’s regrettable that you are so heavily invested in Nikki Haley that you can’t see her wiggle room shrinking. At a minimum, the smart money for you would have been to be less condescending and dismissive toward people like Paris Sailin, and wait things out, no matter how mindlessly partisan you might actually be.
For the record, neither Paris Sailin, nor fdk, strike me as either bitter or in a pout. They’re not the ones trying to pretend that the emperor has clothes on, that Nikki Haley’s potentially pyrrhic victory in yesterday’s election trumps all. They’re just patiently waiting for Will Folks to show his hand, while you’re just whistling in the dark.
That said, why not go back and read through Paris Sailin’s posts, and give them some further thought. He or she has a strong intuitive grasp of the situation, of the logical outcome of everything that Will Folks has done and said, something that you lack. If you could take you partisan blinders off for a minute, reading them might actually open up your eyes.

“Politically, I’m gratified that someone who has consistently advanced the ideals I believe in – whose career I have played a role in advancing –has won such an important victory. Personally, I’m disappointed that she felt she had to lie in order to achieve that victory.”

One thing I really find FUNNY about the liberal posts here is the hope ‘eternal’ that Will Folks would release some damning evidence about the alleged “inappropriate physical relationship.” Hmmm.. and I thought their defense of Clinton, Spitzer, and the other crooks was: “It doesn’t affect his ability to do the job he was elected for.” Heck, Clinton is a rock star demi-god reaping millions of dollars in speeches and the media is in full spin mode trying to resuscitate Spitzer’s career.
But you certainly are trusting in the morality of conservatives to throw Haley overboard in case the alleged additional evidence surfaces? Sorry to burst your bubble – conservatives have long passed the stage where we care anymore. Better to have a ‘devil’ that maintains your individual freedoms and doesn’t spend you into oblivion than a supposed angel that does all that plus call you all sort of names: “racists”, “teabaggers” outside of the election season and then comes crawling back when it’s time to get re-elected.

Lt. Gov. Bauer’s ‘buddy’ Marchant is quite entertaining. Any one having questions about Rep. Haley’s having comitted adultery with him will be reassured AT ONCE that she did not, as he could not… have done…it.
I have a question to ask about Folks: if he felt we all needed to have this information about his relationship with Rep. Haley, what is ‘THIS’, exactly: who, what, when, where, why, and how…? AND has anyone looked into HIS current financial situation. Is it bad? Has it improved recently?
The bottom line is that Rep. Haley has received the most votes in the Republican Primary. If she does so again in two weeks, and on November 2, the people of the state of SC will have elected her Governor.
If you don’t like her, don’t vote for her. If you don’t like the process, call your congressman and ask that constitutional amendment be proposed to change the electoral process. We have amended the Constitution before. If you really don’t like the current state of affairs in this country: Emigrate.

TRM, wait so the lesser evil is the proper choice? I think that Will’s statement on the election was pretty good. “…That she had to lie to win…”
For certain elements of national party politics, losing is not an option. Barrett isn’t dropping out, and even if he does, AG McMaster then has to take his place.
Which is intriguing with Will’s claim of infidelity. If the other shoe drops, Barrett is the only one with motive, of course, unless he drops out, and McMaster (by law) takes his place in the runoff.
Fits the Good Ol’ Boy motif, but also open up Haley against real allegations independent of the mud. Will’s story is still out there. Sheheen said he wasn’t going to use it, which to me, means someone’s going to instead.
Question is when, to me.

Thanks for the support. Forgive JASCV her blubbering exuberance, she just won something, I guess. You’re right though. She’s setting herself up for a real verbal spanking (something I’ll bet Nikki liked in some of those “work-related” phone conversations).
And I’m with you both on the “popcorn thing.” You know, JASCV, I chided you about the “no horse in this race” tiresome cliche, and so in the same spirit, I will stop with the “pass the popcorn” references, even avoiding the obvious other things I might ask Haley apologists to do with the . . . you know . . . op-corn-pay.
TheRightMan – Thanks to your ilk on behalf of Harry Reid for guaranteeing his reelection by nominating a true nutcase to run against him in Nevada. They would have had enough fun shredding “Chicken-Bartering-Woman” had she won, but Sharron Angle, the tea-baguette who won, is actually on record advocating a return to prohibition! That’s right, she is on record as stating that legislation should be passed to outlaw liquor . . . right here in 2010 . . . in NEVADA!?!
Let’s see what the Gee Oh Pee-baggers have wrought so far. You lost NY-23 special election, a seat GOP held since Reconstruction Era. You’ve got “Integration Ain’t Fair” BP-Boot-licker Rand Paul in Kentucky going down to an attractive Democratic state officeholder, a Democrat pick-up in the Senate, you got Harry Reid re-elected in Nevada after he was down about 20 points at one time to the Chicken Lady. And close to home, you’ve got the Stonewalling, Lying-Adulteress-In-Waiting giving us Dems a real shot at the South Carolina governorship.
Keep up the good work. Keep dopes alive!

Yep! The lesser evil is ALWAYS the proper choice especially if the greater evil is anyone with a D behind their name. We’ve seen enough after all the touchy-feely hope-change rhetoric that was supposed to ‘slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet.’ It rather messed up the ocean big time, plunged us deeper into debt, and eroded our individual freedoms.
Any Democrat is now by default the greater evil no matter how they cloak themselves with conservative rhetoric. After all, is that not what you liberals have been teaching us in places like Chicago? No matter how corrupt the pol, the Democrat always win! We have learnt fast and so if you are thinking anything short of a promise to do worse than the Democrats (a tall order) will derail Nikki, then you are in for a BIG SHOCK in November.
By Barney Fife June 9, 2010 at 4:16 pm
oh, I forgot one of the biggest factors here. If Barrett bails, then McMaster is in the runoff, he bails then Andre is in the runoff. Think this would never happen. Let us not forget Jeff Willis running against Thomas Ravenel for Treasurer. He got 4th and everyone else bailed, but he stayed in. Thomas beat the socks off of him.
SC politics is crazy.

You give yourself entirely too much credit by assuming that I actually give a damn what you, Fdk, Paris or any other brain dead liberal dolt thinks of me. Newsflash, I don’t.
Nikki Haley does not have a problem. That was made very clear last night. However, she did have a nuisance and she handled it beautifully. I find it extremely funny that you and the Haley Haters would put so much credence into a pot smoking admitted wife beating political hack rather give the woman the benefit of the doubt especially when she has done nothing wrong. She is NOT a liar. Nothing you, fdk, or Paris say can refute that! No matter how much you wish it were so. The only cards Will Folks has shown is nothing more than circumstantial evidence that provoked innuendo. Speculate as you wish and repeat it over and over, it still doesn’t make the allegations true.
“They’re just patiently waiting for Will Folks to show his hand”
Yes, you do just that. Hold your breathe until you turn blue for all I care. Throw a fit and demand concrete proof when clearly there is none. While YOU wait patiently, the rest of us laugh at you as we go on with our lives.
Haley for Governor!
By thesushi June 9, 2010 at 4:55 pm
I was just wondering, actually. I don’t know how questioning Haley makes me a liberal. It’s interesting, though, that’s how people respond almost every time. Threaten, and be liberal.
I think there is a valid question of Haley’s truthfulness. Not sure what the hell global warming has to do with this, or Chicago.
I believe that Barrett created this storm to ensure a #2 spot, by forcing Will to take pro-active action. I think Haley responded immediately by selling out Folks and called in her national minders to attack him directly. I’m pretty sure Jake planned to show up on Wes n’ Phil’s show in order to purposely cause a race problem. Wes sure was surprised to see Jake show up at the show.
I’m saying don’t buy the hype. Sanford’s hand-picked successor is the race, and Will actually helped position her too. Nothing in politics occurs by chance. You can peg someone for every move and development. And when Haley wins, don’t be upset when policy goes nowhere.
Your Tea is being taxed already. The first hurdle is the Medicare shortfalls that Haley will face. Sanford is vetoing as much as he can, but in the end, you’ll just have your people approving federal funds, rather than Dems. I don’t see how that’s better. But I guess a win is a win.

You need to understand something about us liberal progressive denizens of the real world. First of all, I know many, many people of all different political persuasions. One of my dear friends and his wife were huge Bush supporters and voted McCain/Palin, and another voted Libertarian (Barr).
But, of course, the majority of people I hang out with in the liberal land of Bloomington, Indiana, are liberal progressives and Democrats (not always the same). Not one person that I know has ever expressed anything but anger and disappointment about Clinton’s lies and adultery. I felt the same way about Spitzer, although he wasn’t as big a deal, just because he was not from around our region.
Most people I know, myself included, wouldn’t vote for Bill Clinton if we knew then what we know now. That doesn’t mean I don’t think he was a pretty good President. His lies and the ensuing disappointment no doubt helped bolster Nader, led to many Democrats sitting the election out, caused Gore to have to eschew the President and his notable campaigning and fund-raising abilities, and caused the Democrats to lose the Presidency in 2000.
See, we can say it and mean it. Clinton and Spitzer were lying adulterers who we wouldn’t vote for again. In fact, as an aside, I got into a number of arguments with my father (RIP) in 1992 election because he, a lifelong working class Democrat, voted for Perot rather than Clinton because he thought Bill Clinton was a disingenuous punk. I guess perhaps that’s an insight one gets when one raises 11 kids. Anyhow, he passed away before the next election, but I think Clinton had won him over a bit. Can you IMAGINE how pizzed he would have been by the Lewinsky affair?
Anyhow, don’t use the “it’s okay with Dems when they do it” BS meme to bolster your support of a lying adulteress. If you want to elevate her anyway, if she meets what passes for your standards, then just do it.
By Reality Check June 9, 2010 at 5:15 pm
Question to Paris Sailin and others of you saying Sheheen will win:
How can you be sure that some day there won’t be claims made about Sheheen ever having one or more “inappropriate physical relationships”?
Has he ever developed friendships with political consultants and made after-hours phone calls? If so, that’s a smoke, right? And where there’s smoke there must be fire? Or would it all be okay because he’s male? Male politicians are allowed to have friendships and phone calls, but females aren’t? Is the Taliban being consulted about these rules?
What makes you consider Sheheen immune from those kind of accusations?
Or Barrett?
Or anybody?
By TheRightMan June 9, 2010 at 5:19 pm
Paris Sailin, my ‘favoritest’ liberal on this blog, how’re you doing on this wonderful day? Okay, here are my responses:
1. NY-23
This race and conservatives’ backing of Doug Hoffman was to send a clear message to party leaders: “The days of running roughshod over conservatives and picking wishy-wasy liberals as GOP flagbearers are over!” And apparently it worked. Scozzafava showed herself to be a true snake, the type that had brought the GOP to its minority status, by abandoning all conservative pretences and endorsing the Democrat in the race. But we worry not, we will have the seat back this fall. No pain, no gain right?
2. Rand Paul vs. Conway in Kentucky
I don’t know about you but the last polls I checked had Paul (R) leading Conway (D). Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself at:
http://www.politico.com/2010/pollingcenter/ky-senate.html
3. Harry Reid vs. Sharron Angle in Nevada
Harry Reid is in a race, aided by the liberals masquerading as “fair” reporters with the lamestream media, to define Angle as a whacky nutjob so far out of the mainstream – and so the talking points are out. I see, Paris, that you’ve got your copy :).
But hmmm… I am not so sure that will work for poor Harry. He has a ‘delicious’ resume that he can run on and I believe that will trump any: “I am the lesser evil, please vote for me.” He should have thought about that when he was fasttracking himself out of a job by pushing the health care boondoggle and partnering with his evil twin, Nancy Pelosi, to rape America. Sorry, NO SALE! He’s out of a job come November no matter how much he tries to paint Angle as a nutjob that just came over from Mars.

True, even Harry Ried won his primary by a margin greater than Jim DeMint. But its a point I made to suggest the meaninglessness in the point made by TheRightMan; the margin of primary victory is not a metric to gauge the primary race winner’s ideological strength. Chuck Devore was a “solid conservative” but still he lost heavily to “RINO” Fiorina.

Thanks for the link on Conway/Paul race. You did note that a notoriously right-leaning poll (Rasmussen) in a red state race (Kentucky) showed Conway going from 25 points down the day after the primary, to only 9 points down a couple of weeks later.
That’s before Conway even started campaigning on the race. The GOP’s base, the most solid part, is males over 55 and all over 65. Wait until Conway starts hammering Paul’s positions on Social Security and Medicare in his ads.
Tell me about it in a couple more months. Again, I’m a patient guy.
And again, in Nevada, Angle has said she thinks it is important, and that it is in the purview of the legislature to eliminate drugs, including alcohol. Her views on Social Security and Medicare are even more radical than Paul’s, plus she was affiliated with a bizarre survivalist cult.
Keep ‘em coming, Tea Partiers. No wonder the Republican leadership is beside itself. This is the movement you plan to use to launch the GOP political comeback. All-righty, then.
And, Round-The-Clock Nikki is as big a lying cheater as the ludicrous Governor she’s hoping to replace. Again, patience. It will come out. You know she is. You know what those late night into early morning phone calls mean. Or you certainly would if you were a judge in a divorce proceeding.

Okay, so Angle is a nutjob for supporting the elimination of drugs, including alcohol (assuming she has not been misquoted, which is pretty common for liberal news outlets). But say it’s true… what do you call liberals, as exemplified by the New York legislature, who are seeking to ban the use of SALT in restaurant cooking?
http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=29196
What do you call liberals who are seeking to encroach on individual freedoms by regulating energy bulbs, have a cap-and-trade bill as a top priority, want to seize control of the media including blogs and so on…
Do you think Reid has thought his attack plan through? Because methinks trying to attack his opponent as a nutjob, he risks labelling the election as a ‘battle of nutjobs.’ A nutjob that seeks to take power away from Washington versus one that seeks to invest even more power in the government and encroach on personal freedoms.
I don’t know about you but I believe the former is more likely to win hands down and that is what will happen.

Hat tip: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=17357 [Top 10 Democrat Sex Scandals]
Do you see the pattern? Democrat scandal-ridden pols are re-elected by their ‘dumb’ constituents, who obviously are NOT conservatives. Republicans, even if they stay in office, most often do NOT try to run for re-election because for sure they would lose. Conservatives are less tolerant of leaders not leading by example. Liberals? Paris Sailin, I forgot to add: Democrat scandal-ridden pols that do leave office are usually FORCED to leave either through criminal convictions or something similar – mostly never through the ballot box. They are always voted back in like festering sores.
By Step to the Right June 10, 2010 at 10:26 am
Paris, you are right. We promise not to vote for Haley ever again.
You just don’t seem to understand people who actually pay attention to their incomes and the US Constitution. I am conservative – I want “limited government” and the creeping progressive, socialist damage done by those of you who have been drinking the cool aid all your “well meaning” lives will take a long time to turn back. I know you don’t like hearing the truth, our public schools & your media friends have done their best to keep it you from you.
This election, like all others in my lifetime, will be about who is most likely to limit the size of government, uphold the constitution as it is written (especially the 10th amendment), lower all taxes, protect this country’s sovereignty and work to stop the advance of the secular ‘nanny’ state.
Many of the so-called conservatives have turned out to be liars, weak in character and just plain stupid – these attributes are not limited to Democrats. But, that does not deter me from seeking the election of those who at least will not vote away my hard earned money, take more of my freedoms away and see this state and country as just a cog in the “one world order” of statism.

Just Another SC Voter – In making the point the you purportedly don’t give a damn about what I think about you, you had all of this to say to me:
“You give yourself entirely too much credit by assuming that I actually give a damn what you, Fdk, Paris or any other brain dead liberal dolt thinks of me.
Haley for Governor!”
(*LAUGHING*) Newsflash, Just Another SC Voter, any shrink worth his salt would probably disagree with you. The length and intensity of your response to my posts to and about you so obviously contradicts your claim that you don’t give a damn what I and the others that you characterized as “brain dead liberal dolts” had to say about you that it’s not even funny. You care. You care a lot. Apparently what I and Paris Sailin’ and fdk have had to say really struck a nerve with you. Well, good. Maybe it served to wake you up a little from that partisan stupor you seem to languishing in.
But who cares? I’m simply expressing my opinions. Take them or leave them. In any event, you might want to take my advice about not being so dismissive about what is yet to come from Will Folks. Getting all bent out of shape about what he may or may not say just telegraphs how worried you are about how damaging it might be to Nikki Haley, just as spending an hour crafting a “I don’t give a damn what you think of me” post to me telegraphs the fact that you apparently do very much give a damn about what I think about, and what Paris Sailin and fdk think about you.
That said, and with all due respect, as a Harvard-trained lawyer, I may be a lot of things, but, being “brain dead” or a “dolt” isn’t on the list.
Moreover, while reductionist thinking is commonplace amongst ideologues, don’t assume that my supportive words for what Paris Sailin has been saying to you necessarily means that I am a liberal, something that you seem to see him or her as being. For the record, I do see he or she is intelligent, thoughtful, insightful and I think quite intuitive. On the other hand, you strike me as nothing more than a partisan whose passion and “logic” are informed by nothing more than an extraordinary emotional investment in Nikki Haley’s candidacy. Paris Sailin may be a liberal, but he or she is no dolt. You could learn a thing or two by paying attention to his or her intuitive grasp of the significance of what Will Folks has said and done over time, and what he or she sees as its inevitable denouement. You should resist your partisan tendency to angrily react in a kneejerk way to what he or she has to say because his or her “crystal ball” is probably clearer than your own.
That said, I don’t get the impression that Paris Sailin is just some liberal hack. He or she calls them like she sees them. My gut, not my politic leanings, tells me that Haley is lying, just as it told me that Bill Clinton was lying when he famously said, “I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky”. Paris Sailin’s gut is telling him or her the same thing, based upon the totality of available facts and an intuitive response to what the players have said and how they have said it. He or she is listening to, and guided, by that, and not by his or her politics, anymore than I am, in saying what he or she has been saying about Nikki Haley.
I’m not saying that Paris Sailin is unhappy at seeing a “family values” rightwinger in potentially deep sh*t, anymore than I am. But he or she isn’t piling on for that reason irrespective of what the facts are, nor am I. He or she has enough intellectual integrity to go after Haley here only because the facts and common sense support the effort. That’s the difference between him or her and you, and between you and me. I’m not saying that you’re a dolt, as you seem so readily inclined to call anybody who challenges your unquestioning idolatry of Nikki Haley, but it seems clear to me that you have some pretty thick partisan blinders on when it comes to Haley, blinders that will make it that much harder to wipe the egg off of your face here if things don’t work out the way you are so desperately hoping that they do. Whistle away, JASCV. As I was saying, you would be better served by just waiting and seeing, rather than calling the people who disagree with you “liberal dolts”.
In the interests of full disclosure, I would characterize myself as a liberal these days, but, in 2000 and 2004, when I voted Republican, I would have characterized myself as a conservative. I had a change of heart somewhere in the interim, one based upon the facts as I saw them and upon what my gut was telling me about which philosophy and candidates were less full of BS and which embraced a sounder political vision.
So, in closing, JASCV, let me give you a couple of additional pieces of advice. Stop demonizing people just because they criticize you and your views. Try to restrain yourself from generalizing about them in the simplistically reductionist ways so unfortunately characteristic of the wingnut. Finally, try to listen when intelligent people who disagree with your point of view disagree with you. They may be right. Moreover, calling them names, and dismissing what they have to say, out of partisan spite, just makes you look like, well, a dolt, an unthinking, reactionary partisan dolt, regardless of stripe.
In any event, good luck to you, Just Another SC Voter, you and South Carolina are very much going to need it.
I’ll see ya around. Maybe we’ll bump into each other on the Appalachian Trail, maybe even Nikki, too, huh? I heard that she used to go up there in order to have absolute privacy for all of those hours long, late night phone conversations about “politics” that she had with Will Folks.

it is hard to believe a party that wears religion on its sleeve would vote for Haley considering all of the accusations. What will they do if and when Folks comes out with more material that is incriminationg?
I am glad she won bec. Sheheen can whip her in November.
The accuser needs to support his claims with stronger evidence. Has a lawsuit been filed by her?
What the heck is going on?
EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES- In God’s eyes us sitting here GOSSIPING is just as bad as the “said” affair of Nikki Haley. I for one choose to believe that the accusations are not true. I will say that I don’t believe that an affair she had a few years ago would have any effect whatsoever on her job.
By Zuma Bound June 10, 2010 at 7:14 pm
Go Haley – I agree with you about the relevance of the affair to Nikki Haley’s ability to serve as Governor. Unfortunately, IF she had an affair or affairs (in the interest of full disclosure, I believe both Will Folks and Larry Marchant, and I think that she did have sex with both of them), she has lied to the electorate, not to mention her family, AND that is something that is most certainly not irrelevant to her ability to serve as Governor. It is also most certainly relevant to the decision of the citizenry about whether or not to let her do so.
In any event, I also agree with you that “the other shoe” will eventually drop, and I think that she will be history once that happens.

I once thought a friend of my brother was guilty of child abuse and of beating his wife, because – that’s what the word on street was – and compounded by testimony of the step-daughter to child services to another friend of mine who said it was believable. I have to tell you the cards were really stacked against this guy. His friends shunned him. I must admit that I didn’t want to be around him. He showed up at the evidentiary hearing with a couple of cassette tapes. My brother had belived him and had helped him tap his own phone. After numerous objections, the judge took the tapes into his chambers.
The wife served time for conspiracy. Her daughter spent a year at child corrections. Boy was I wrong. I will no longer belive the rumor mill. If you have evidence – produce it.

and Zuma, you claim to be an intellectual. Have you not looked deep into this scandal and asked yourself why WF disclosed? He had nothing to lose here, and claimed at one time to be a Haley supporter. The SC political machine does not play within the bounds of anything I would call ethical, and never has. So you take Larry Marchant at his word even though his polygraph was inconclusive? My polygraphs have always been conclusive. How about Alvin Greene? Do you really believe he spent his own money to enter the Senate race? (He sounds believable but the CIRCUMSTANCIAL evidence says unlikely) Are you getting the picture now? My late father wanted a bill passed (concerning Pharmaceuticals) in the early 60′s, and WJBD showed up at the house one day. He said he could get the bill passed, but Pop would need to round up 100 people who could donate 1K. So you get what you pay for in SC politics. That’s why people are fed up here, and want total transparency. I don’t care if put a known hooker in the seat. If a candidate supports accountability and dosen’t misbehave while in office, they will get my support.

C20H26N20 – Wow, that’s a heck of a screenname, buddy.
Anyway, um, for whatever it’s worth, while I have been accused of being an intellectual, I don’t actually claim to one.
I get what you’re saying about how dirty South Carolina politics is, but whatever conclusions that I have offered here have been based upon my intuitive response to the facts and to what people like Larry Marchant have had to say, and how they said it.
I watched Larry Marchant’s interviews, and I believe that he was/is telling the truth. As a trial lawyer, I’ve spent a lot of time “reading” people and ferreting out liars, and I base my belief in Marchant’s credibility on what my gut and experience told me as I watched him and listened to him.
The only “rebuttal evidence” that I have seen offered on this blog have been along the lines of, “He’s a f*gg*t” and “Have you ever seen a worse hairpiece?” I haven’t found it persuasive.
By the way, an inconclusive lie detector test can happen for a variety of innocuous, exrtraneous reasons. What was noteworthy about the test was the +3 (“telling the truth”) reading that was obtained in connection with the question regarding whether or not Marchant had had sex with Haley.
