Bauer Fires Top Advisor For “Inappropriate Conduct”

andre bauer

By FITSNews || S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has fired his top political advisor – although amazingly it’s not because the guy has been running one of the worst statewide campaigns in recent memory.

According to the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier, Bauer requested – and received - the resignation of top strategist Larry C. Marchant Jr. on Wednesday due to “inappropriate conduct.”

From the story:

Lt. Gov. Bauer announced that adviser Larry Marchant gave him his resignation at noon today.

Bauer said he had become aware of a situation several days ago, and reached the conclusion that decisive action was dictated.

His news release contained no specifics. “We asked for and received the resignation,” Bauer spokesman Hank Page said in an e-mail. “Beyond that, we will have no further comment.”

Decisive action was dictated?

Ummm … dictated?

Bauer’s guberantorial campaign briefly stoked the enthusiasm of hardcore conservatives activists back in January after the candidate made a few ill-chosen remarks regarding recipients of government services, but his “end generational welfare” theme has otherwise failed to resonate with voters.

Incidentally, this is the second high-paid consultant Bauer has parted ways with since the campaign began …

I’ve watched Andre’s ads and they amaze me. Welfare has gone up. That’s true but it parallels the economy. Welfare rolls were at an all time low in SC prior to the economic bust. He fails to define generational welfare and from what I know, there are time limits for both the state and federal benefits. He just isn’t campaigning on anything that has any substance.

    ‘Just not Pops, though’! Ha.

I just read a couple of other blogs linked to here. Wow, are there some morons around in the blogosphere. Here’s a mutiple choice question. Did Folks’ post about a Haley backer asking him to hold back from firing all his bullets until after she was governor because he could always write a book about it later demonstrate:

    A. That Will Folks wants to write a book about this?

or B. Humiliate said backer and frigthen them into thinking Folks might reveal their name and all the emails or text about it at a later date; demonstrate an astonishing amoiunt of cynicism involved among Haley’s own backers; show just how dumb they are for thinking Folks might cede to such a scheme; state clearly his intention not to take up said offer but instead to bring down Haley; generally pwn the backer and Haley’s camp?

Here’s a clue. The answer is B. The sad thing is that some people in the media are reading these blogs and seem to be too dumb to work this story out themselves. It’s just been a colossal fail for the media as far as I can see. Haley’s campaign manager fucking admitted sending texts to Folks days ago in which he stated ‘if we keep this under wraps, nh will win’ and speculated about which photo the blackmailer might have, etc. I mean, come on. You need a fucking dress to close this? Pathetic. I seriously wish I were a reporter on the staff of a SC paper because Jesus, this is a steal. A bunch of incompetent dumb bloggers and a lazy media covering it. I can’t stand republicans, and Folks is clearly a complete slimeball. But he’s dancing circles around these fools, who are sitting on the sidelines continually shouting ‘Show us more proof or STFU! You’re credibility is ruined! Your blog must stop now because I say so! My comments on your blog will affect the outcome of this instantaneously and if I say you must do something else you really must…’

    Amazing.

    Charile,
Folks hasn’t posted anything that adds up to a hill of beans. All he has claimed is he touched Nikki Haley in some manner in 2007. That’s his entire claim apparently approved by several hundred lawyers he keeps on retainer.

So the lawyers wouldn’t even let him claim the physical action was sexual in nature, or that Haley was even awake/coherent at the time.

Legally, an inappropriate physical relationship could be masturbating to a picture of her. Which given his comments in 2008, he just may be engaging in.

If you go back and actually READ Pearsons text, he clearly says the only evidence the media could possibly have would have to be MANUFACTURED..doesn’t quite sound like an admission of anything.

Apparently, it takes the Folks machine some time to perform the manufacturing process.

  22. By Charlie June 2, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Pops, you’re delusional if you think that’s all Pearson’s texts say. Pearson has confirmed he sent them, and he is clearly discussing with Folks a story about he and Haley that he believed to be true. He asks if Folks can ‘fuck up’ the source, Donehue. You hardly need to fuck up someone who is claiming a BS story you can sue them for. He says if they just keep it ‘under wraps’, Haley will win. He tells Folks to calm down, because he thinks they’re bluffing – they’ve been digging for a year and haven’t produced anything, and they’re just trying to make them jump by claiming they have now. You don’t text Folks any of this stuff if you know the story is fake – he wouldn’t even be discussing it with Folks if he thought that because Folks and Haley would both have told him there was nothing to worry about.

This is elementary logic that only a gullible moron or the mainstream media would be unable to grasp.

Your posts show you have no knowledge of these people or how they play in this soap opera. Read up a little and then get back to me.

Here’s a clue, Folks was playing Pearson. Donahue had no interest in the story and had no interest for over a year.

    Neither did the Free Times.

The source pushing both was none other then WILL FOLKS. He needed to
create ‘pressure’ as an excuse to ‘go public’ with his claim.

Pearson clealry explained what he was doing was trying to keep FALSE stories out of the papers. Folks was playing a far different game, trying to show collusion before he went public. A careful reading shows NO admissions on Pearsons or Haley parts and no admission that they were trying to stop a TRUE story.

We know for a fact that Folks told people in 2008 that he had sex with Haley. Nobody believed him but that put the rumor into play. Pearson wasn’t dealing with a TRUE story (that they had sex) he was dealing with the rumor story that Folks had told someone a year ago they had sex. Two very different things. You may have realized, Folks is known to have lied in the past.

Nikki Haley Faces New Accusations of Inappropriate Relationship
Columbia, SC (WLTX) – Another man has come forward to say he had an inappropriate sexual encounter with the Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Nikki Haley.

Larry Marchant told News19 and several other media outlets Wednesday that he and Haley were together in June of 2008 while the two attended an event in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Marchant worked as a campaign aide for Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Andre Bauer. Bauer asked for and received Marchant’s resignation.

A campaign spokesperson says Bauer became aware of a certain situation several days ago and decided to take action.

News19 contacted Haley’s campaign about this latest accusation, and Campaign Manager Tim Pearson released the following statement.

“This is a false and outrageous desperate attack from a losing candidate’s paid campaign consultant in the final week of the race. As Nikki Haley rises in the polls, the good old boys in Columbia see their taxpayer-funded fraternity party coming crumbling down, and they will say or do anything to hold onto their power. This is South Carolina politics at its worst. the people of our state deserve better, and when Nikki Haley is governor, they’ll get it.”

This is the second accusation of an inappropriate relationship with the GOP frontrunner.

Last week, former Sanford staffer Will Folks said he and Haley had a relationship three years ago, something Haley has denied.

However, niether has offered any real evidence of impropriety.

I’ve never seen such desperation in my lifetime! These crooks led by Andre Bauer must be really desperate to maintain their gig in South Carolina.

Tell me, what sane man decides to ‘confess’ publicly to an affair without any major prodding? We saw with Bill Clinton, John Edwards, and even Sanford – males do NOT own up to affairs easily especially in cases like Folks and Marchant, where there is no evidence to support their claims.

They must really be trusting that the voters in their state are so gullible to believe this trash. With some of the liberal posters on this forum, they are just acting like political chimpanzees dancing for joy and claiming fire where there is no smoke.

Sorry to disappoint you, I believe Nikki is going to win both the primary and the general in a landslide after these desperate shenanigans from her opponents.

Bauer fired Marchant because the jig is up and he doesn’t want to be tied up in legal complications once the lawsuits begin. Better to cut off his advisers now than go down with them. Else why wouldn’t he give a reason for the so-called ‘firing’. So-called because his van was parked outside Marchant’s house four hours after the announcement.

I don’t know where to begin in my reply to this. Are you saying that out-of-state news organizations and/or blogs are not to be believed simply because they are out-of-state? Incredulous! And YOU are to be believed because you were an eyewitness to Folks and Marchant sleeping with Haley or having an “inappropriate physical relationship” – whatever the hell that means?

Let me tell you this, people will believe what they want to believe with respect to allegations that are not backed by any solid evidence – based on their personal inclinations. I presume you hate Nikki and possibly Palin (and are probably a liberal) so of course… you will believe this! I do not hate them and am inclined to give Nikki the benefit of the doubt until solid evidence aside some obscure phone call logs can be provided.

What Nikki’s detractors are banking on is that the mere whiff of impropriety will sully and bring her down sufficiently so they could have an opening. It might have worked in some less precarious times but not now when America is flaming mad and disgusted with the liberals’ hijacking of America!

Nikki is your next governor – live with it!

The operative word in his quote is “We”. I was on the fence about the folks deal, but this is garbage politics and no matter what I thought about Nikki Haley before, I’d vote for her to keep her scumbag opponents out of office.

Larry also apparently felt like he owed it to Bauer to come clean….Hmmmmm nice priorities. Wouldn’t one feel that he owed it to his wife first and only?!

Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t, but the motivations, morals, and true character of her Rethug opponents are clear that they will stop at nothing to gain the power and access that the office provides for themselves. They don’t give a damn about the State of SC or its people.

In addition to my earlier post, why would Marchant be getting calls from “people” to come clean. If it was common knowledge how didn’t Bauer know, and would he really be motivated and suddenly develop a conscience by getting “calls” from “people”?! Yeah, that happens all the time.

Can you explain what an “obscure phone log” is as opposed to a “real phone log?”

When Nikki explained the phone records of her 700 calls, many of them late at night into early morning, as being business as usual for “Round-the-Clock” Nikki (soon to have an entirely new meaning) – why didn’t she, instead of tendering this laughable “explanation,” just say, “I am not going to comment on stuff from obscure phone logs.”

These 2 people have told the truth, and some just can’t face it. Haley is not the person to lead this state. She has stepped in it big time. No man is going to lie about an affair just to promote a political candidate. Take a deep breath and realize that Haley is lying and there well be more to come.

Will Folks so called “inappropriate relationship” was the first punch to bring down Nikky, but it failed…Now Marchant’s story is the second punch against Nikki Haley to sully her image more and further cause doubts in minds of public. It is a well planned operation and power behind both punches is the same. Besides the money paid to Marchant or possibly Will Folks as consultants, it is possible to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to such operatives underhand without any paper trail. Also Marchant can easily make his wife a a partner in this crime when both are making money off of a false story.
It is a shame that politicians will go to any length to achieve their nefarious objectives of power and pelf and it will be travesty of justice if they succeed this time.

Instead of keeping quiet about an alleged affair of which, by his own admission, there’s zero proof, he felt duty bound to disclose it right before the primary. And Andre Bauer felt duty bound to mention in his press release that Marchant was let go for “inappropriate conduct,” which isn’t at all a signal that we should believe something really did happen between him and Haley. We’re hip-deep in filth here.

In both Will and Marchant’s story it is slime bag Davenport of Associated Press who is playing a prominent role.

i give you credit to know that, of course, someone else had to break it as it would only make you look ridiculous supreme to peddle a rumor about another man, after you broke with your own admission.

the real question is this: how many more are there? it is unlikely it was just two. anyone who did what she did with willie, and then, a one nighter with another insider would indicate this behavior wasn’t isolated, and in fact, is probably pathological, at some level.

Well, at least there’s no record of Larry Marchant having ever been paid by Bauer.

Oh, wait! Nevermind. There’s at least c. $50,000 paid to him by Bauer that we know of and who knows how much more by third parties.

If this weren’t a paid attack on Haley, why did he even bother to make the accusation otherwise? No proof possible–by his own admission–even if it were true (as if anyone in his right mind would believe him) and now all he’s done is hurt other people and shown what a highly paid prostitute he is for anyone like Bauer who pays him enough.

Oops! My bad: all the above makes him the perfect lobbyist. This is probably a career enhancer for him.

All this stuff and nonsense reminds me of high school. If a girl had enemies, the first accusation was that she was a slut who slept around with all the boys. If the accused were attractive, all the boys gladly took credit for the sins implicitly applied to them as well.

At this rate of campaign ethics devolution, the corrupt establishment will soon be running Jerry Springer for governor of South Carolina.

But surely Bauer is not so naive as to think that if he fired one of his own paid consultants, who then immediately revealed that they had slept with Haley, but had no proof, that nobody would point the finger at him? If so, he’s really dumb.

I watched the clip of Haley defending herself and attacking Bauer in the debate. Very impressive performance by Haley, unflappable, really, and shift by Bauer. Extraordinary balls on Haley if she’s lying. But I watched the clip with Marchant, too. Very bad toupee. Older. I can see why there are rumours about him being gay. So… should have been unconvincing. Strong denial from Haley, an unlikely accuser who was a paid consultant with an opponent. And surely Marchant’s a rough-and-ready political consultant. But he didn’t look like he was lying to me. Neither he nor Haley do, but one of them is.

It could be it’s a desperate move by Bauer, just to get some smoke out in the media, a second affair, etc. Marchant takes a fall, his wife eats it up, and Bauer denies everything and hopes it works. Could be.

But I’m a professional journalist. I doubted Folks’ story right up until Tim Pearson confirmed the text messages. You don’t need any more. None of the rest of it matters, logically. Those text messages were about a cover-up. If there had been no affair between Haley and Folks, Pearson would have known about it, from Haley certainly. In which case Folks making contact with him in that way must have meant Folks was the source of the invented story. In which case he would have called Folks on it, or replied in some other way. The idea that he ingeniously TEXTED back a guy who he beleived to be perpetuating a hoax against his candidate with a whole lot of material that looked like he believed the story and was tryign to cover it up… is more than just implausible, but defies reason. If he knew Folks was lying, he would also know Folks might publish his texts. Can you fuck up Donehue, we need to keep this under wraps, oh, I don’t think they have a new photo, wow, what a bastard, okay, good to hear it’s calm now, etc. What aim would this have but to make himself look bad later? Come on.

Logic dictates that Pearson knew there was an affair. Folks told him it might come out in the Free Times. Pearson thought about it and decided that there was no evidence out there, so the best strategy was to stonewall and wait until they produced evidence. They’ve done that ever since.

It really doesn’t matter just what Folks or Marchant or Bauer are up to. That text exchange – confirmed by Haley’s camp – says it all. She absolutely has to be lying about this. It’s astonishing bravado on her part to keep up the pretence, but what has she got to lose? If they produce evidence, she’s as done as she would have been if she’d weakly denied it. If they don’t, she wins. She’s counting on there not being enough hard evidence. And it’s pretty hard to prove you slept with someone.

Read the texts again. Try to think of a plausible explanation for Pearson responding to Folks in the way he has confirmed that he did.

There’s plenty of third-party money out there for grabs by the morality-free “consultants” and politicians who will do anything to get their favored candidate into office.

I’m waiting for proof. If no proof then the entire thing is a plot to HELP Haley into office. I’m a successful professional who thinks nothing of putting in 60-70 hour weeks at times to get the job done when working on a big project. I have regular conference calls as a part of my job and many have stretched to 3 and even 4 hours long. I’ve also logged quite a few 6 and 7 day work weeks and yes, had lengthy business calls on weekends. But let me tell you one thing, in my 20-year plus career to date, I have never, not once, had a call with a co-worker or client past 10pm at night. Not once. The only time I’ve ever had lengthy phone calls in the wee hours of the morning, it’s always been with a man that I’ve been romantically involved with or a family member or friend in some sort of deep crisis.

So this is where the lack of critical thinking skills in this state come into play. Some of you actually believe the bullshit line that Haley “barely knew” Folks? You truly believe she’s the shining example of truth and virtue she claims to be in her campaign ads? Let me tell you one thing I’ve learned over my career in dealing at times with politicans: they lie. They all do. It’s as natural to them as breathing and it doesn’t matter what party they belong to. Some are just a bit better at acting. And boy is Haley a potential Academy Award nominee if some of you are actually buying this bullshit about how she often takes 3-4 hour long phone calls in the early morning hours to discuss business. If her husband actually believes all of this, it’s obvious why she’s been such a busy girl with her extra-curricular activities, the man has got to be dumber than a post, or a graduate of the SC public school system. Honestly, can anyone please cite me just one single instance where a politican’s sex scandal, be it local, state, or national has ever been proven to be NOT true?

And while we’re at it if I have to sit through one more commercial this go-round with some candidate, with years of previous experience as an elected official (be it local, state, or federal), vowing to bring “fresh ideas” to whatever job it is they aspire to, I’ll pull an Elvis and shoot the damn TV. I’ll vote for the first one who can tell me why, in all their previous years of elected office they never actually successfully introduced or implemented some of these “fresh” ideas.

And why not ask yourselves why they all trying to portray themselves as “political outsiders” and/or the biggest tea-party patriot anyone has ever seen? Those of us with more finely-developed critical thinking skills know it’s because they’re saying what they think will get them elected, plain, pure, and simple. If the polls showed that people wanted a bald-headed man or woman to be elected, they’d all be looking like Yul Brenner or Captain Picard the very next day.

And I do remember taking a U.S. Government class in high school so I’m at a loss to explain how candidates running for state-wide government are vowing to change or introduce federal laws which they would have absolutely zero ability to do as a state-wide elected official. Are the people of SC so stupid that they don’t understand the difference between the functions of state government and federal government? Or are these little Napoleons planning the very “federal government takeover” they all claim to be against. They’re all trying to sell you whatever flavor of bullshit that happens to be the “hot-button” issue of the day and that at the end of that day, they’ll keep right on doing whatever the hell it was that they were doing or not doing that got this state (and our country) into such a terrible mess once elected/re-elected. These people aren’t the solution, they’re the problem, if they believe government is such a bad thing and want to “limit” it why the hell are they so desperate to get elected or re-elected to the thing they declare they hate? I swear the people of this state would vote for a Sheep if it got in front of a camera and declared it was a God-fearing anti-Government Christian who loved their mate & were devoted to their family. No wonder our state has been at the bottom of the cesspool of politics for as long as I could remember.

I’m honestly not knocking religion here, I’m a born and bred Southern Baptist myself but my granddaddy told me long ago that the ones who had to make a big ole’ point of telling you they were a Christian were the very ones trying to see how fast and how many times they could break the 10 Commandments. And ps–Kudos to Nikki for playing the part of living martyr, excuse me, CHRISTIAN martyr to high-perfection, you’ve got that part down pat. Good ole’ Sarah could give you a few pointers on that one. Why I might even vote for you if you’ll promise to be a half-term governor just like her.

Secretary of education is a cabinet position appointment by the president. Do you mean Superintendent of Education?

Just call me Ava posted (on June 3rd, 2010 at 11:46 am) above a dissertation she likely spent some time composing.

Ava, my comment on your long comment is that your jealousy appears to be showing and/or you appear to be someone frightened that Nikki Haley is destined to become South Carolina’s answer to New Jersey’s Governor Chris Christie (i.e., someone who will be coming in and cleaning out all the corruption and waste of the citizens’ money). Maybe that will have an adverse impact on your bottom line – if you are feeding at the trough? Wow, think about that — the end of the “old boys network” and the end of the “gravy train”.

Right on, Ava. That’s why we need to vote for the candidate with zero fresh ideas and who is too old to cheat – Henry McMaster.

    Ava,
You’re no woman, of this I am certain. This site is a cesspool full of multiple posts written by the same people under various identities.
If so much is at stake in this election, then something is very very wrong and if all of these people have been sleeping around as it appears and they are willing to point it out so readily, then that is all they had on Sanford and the only means to eliminate whatever threat he posed. Looks like the two-party system is truly doomed and it must be finally time. So, lets assume every candidate has slept with someone, lied about something, etc. Now what? Damn, I guess we have to talk substance and issues. At least Andre-a finally shaved her eyebrows, that was just hard to look at.

You hit the nail square on the head. “They” have engineered this entire circus to get that done. Let’s face it, good ole “Hawwwnrrryy” isn’t going to upset the apple cart down there. It will be at least four more years of business as usual. He’s basically oblivious to anything.

You guys really think Nikki Haley will finally open up transparancy to the Sanfraud mess, because that bona fide hard copy proof never got out.
Nikki, Sanfraud’s personal pick for his follow up cleaning up behind the man who started it all? Remember Jenny campaigned…. so do you really, really ( to quote Seth on Saturday Night Live) really think Nikki Haley would expose Sanfraud’s transgressions……..??

Nope me either. Another reason to not pull her leaver.

SC senator: We’ve ‘got one raghead in the White House, we don’t need a raghead in the governor’s mansion.’
Today, the Christian Broadcasting Network published a story about Nikki Haley, the frontrunner to become South Carolina’s GOP gubernatorial nominee, saying that she “recently changed the language on her website to reflect a more Christian tone.” The story said that although Haley has “gone out of her way to make sure people know she is a Christian,” she was raised in the Sikh faith and placed more emphasis on that tradition when she ran for the state legislature in 2004. This evening in an interview with Pub Politics, state Sen. Jake Knotts (R-SC) — who is supporting a different candidate — slammed Haley by using a racial slur:

We already got one raghead in the White House, we don’t need a raghead in the governor’s mansion.

The South Carolina Republican Party has issued a statement condemning Knott’s remarks, saying, “Senator Knotts should apologize for his inappropriate comments, so that we can put this unfortunate incident behind us and focus on issues important to moving our state forward.”

The biggest joke in all this isn’t a half-baked website, or the lame brained “founding editor” , it’s the losers that actually believe this tripe. Probably the same losers that vote for the likes of Linksey (what am I) Graham and Bob (I’ll let my kids decide) Inglis. Absolutely pathetic. You keep voting for and believing those dinosaurs and their bottom feeding followers and you’ll still be mired in the same place 20 years from now.

Everyone makes a big deal about the Marchant-Bauer connection but whats been unsaid so far is that Marchant has a connection with each candidate and their consultants. All of South Carolina’s consultants and operatives are inner-connected. Larry provided fundraising for Bauer. Marchant is a longtime associate of McMaster and served on boards with him. Marchant and McMaster were both members of Kappa Alpha Order at USC. Marchant was a long time tenent of Richard Quinn & Associates (McMaster’s Consultants) and shared office space with RQA on Gervais Street. In addition, he was friends socially with all of the McMaster crowd. Marchant had a professional and social relationship with Nikki Haley that included numerous school choice meetings and dinners in Columbia and trips throughout South Carolina and around the nation.
