By FITSNews || S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley and FITSNews’ editor Will Folks exchanged over 700 phone calls during the past three years – most of them during the time that Folks admitted engaging in an “inappropriate physical relationship” with the front-running Republican gubernatorial candidate.
Folks released nearly 1,000 pages of phone records to local reporters on Thursday, without comment.
On its own, the massive volume of calls doesn’t prove that an affair took place – particularly seeing as Folks worked with Haley for a brief time during some of the high frequency calling periods. In fact, as Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson told The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper Thursday, “of course they spoke on the phone.”
But what’s raising eyebrows across the state isn’t necessarily the number of phone calls (although more than 700 calls seems like an awfully high number given Haley’s recent claim that she “barely knew” Folks), it is the time – and the length – of dozens of late night calls.

In addition to the phone logs, Folks has released nearly 100 text messages – most of them between himself and Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson – which document his version of the events that led him to preemptively acknowledge the relationship.
“I did not ask for this fight,” Folks reiterated Friday. “In fact, I worked with Nikki’s campaign at every step of this process to prevent this information from coming out – a claim which I have extensively documented.”
Additional documentation has yet to be released, he adds.
Haley, meanwhile, has refused to release her legislative emails – citing a legislative exemption from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Ironically, Haley has built her gubernatorial campaign on the notion of transparency in government.

I don’t think so, flipnut. I think a few vocal commenters on websites will continue to miss the point and rag on Folks, but in the wider world it doesn’t matter how it came out, from who, whether he was paid or not, has nice morals or nice teeth. He’s not the one running for office. All the attention will be on Folks until Haley confesses. Then Folks will be forgotten and we will have a media blitz on this. A beautiful and promising Republican candidate openly backed by Palin standing on a family values platform denies to the teeth being unfaithful with a former employee and accuses him of having an overactive imagination – then finally admits there was an indiscretion. She’s toast.
The lame thing here is the media. The public are accustomed to this notion that if there’s not a sex tape, or a dress with stains on, it’s not proof. Some sections of the public, that is. It took a lot to get Sanford to admit it, but most people must have had their suspicions for some time. Common sense dictates that a politician who has been accused of infidelity is probably guilty. The SMS messages, the email excerpts, these phone logs, the complete persistence of Folks… all make it very obvious that while he may be a a bottom-feeder, something happened. It’s obvious to anyone who has ever read a newspaper. But he hasn’t presented hard proof. Journalists seem mostly unwilling to do anything themselves, but just sit and wait for others so they can report the news.
As I see it, the SMS messages should have been it, but a very weak media let it slide. Haley’s campaign couldn’t deny that the messages were real, because then Folks would immediately prove them liars by verifying them electronically and providing that evidence, and it would have been game over. Quite a dilemma for them. But instead of folding, they decided that the public, and the media, were very gullible. So they admitted the messages were real, but claimed – farcically! – that they represented standard operating procedures for a campaign trying to batten down a false rumour from being leaked. The media, instead of repeatedly and persistently attacking this ‘logic’ and showing it to be impossible, just reported their defence and they squeaked by. But a minute’s thinking it through shows it’s impossible:
The SMS messages include exchanges between Haley’s campaign and Folks. If the story was false, both sides of that exchange would know that. Asking how to ‘fuck up’ someone spreading a rumour that they both know is untrue makes no sense. If they knew it to be untrue, they could simply sue. If Folks sent Haley’s camp an SMS saying that he knew someone was about to run a story that he and she had once visited the Pope and gang-raped him, would they have been worried? No, because it’s untrue so nobody can prove it and will make a fool of themselves trying to smear her – poltically, an entirely unfounded smear is good for Haley, in fact. So if you still believe that Tim Pearson, Haley’s campaign manager, knew from discussing with Haley and Folks that the story was untrue, explain SMS messages like this one:

That’s the question the media should be repeatedly and persistently asking the Haley camp to explain. They should also be laying out the logic of their massive contradictions very clearly, like I’m doing here, roughly, rather than hiding it all in a bunch of prevarications and ‘reporting’. The reporting here is about journalistic instincts. Anyone with any can see that Haley is lying – and that it can be very easily shown from what has already been produced. Stop waiting around for a sex tape or a dress. Do your jobs and nail a hypocrite running for public office with her very obvious and public lies.

We get that Haley employed Folks, but do you seriously expect anyone to believe that a married woman repeatedly making calls lasting several hours in the middle of the night to a guy she hired as a part-time consultant for a couple of thousand dollars was not involved with him?
(Pearson blusters and says there’s no proof, they were colleagues and friends, he can’t comment further.)
Okay, if you don’t answer the questions I’ll lay it out convincingly in our op-ed why we think Haley is lying and must go. These are genuine concerns, as your candidate is running on a family values platform and has denied the allegations, so I think you owe it to answer some very reasonable questions about this from the press. (Pause) Why did you send a message to Will Folks asking if he could fuck Donehue up if you knew there was no affair?
And so on. Get with it, media. Don’t just sit back and watch. Do some work.

WRONG, Flipnuts. Haley has been supported from day one by 2 major hypocrites: Mark and Jenny Sanford…and more recently by Mrs. Palin, YET ANOTHER TOOL, who espouses “family values” yet stays on the road, making speeches and TV appearances…..while leaving the family at home.
Most of the players in the politcal scene in Columbia are well aware that our State House is basically one big taxpayer funded KEY PARTY. Haley, like her mentor, Sir Mark of Massengill, just thought she would get away with it.

Dude – I am not from SC. I did not know you or Haley until this story broke. I am a diehard liberal, so I don’t care one way or the other. But – this “evidence” is not enough. I assume the phone numbers are attached to the info you sent the press.
Also, late night calls do not indicate a sexual relationship. But, that 3-hour INCOMING call certainly does raise an eyebrow. I disagree with the person who described you as a stalker. Stalkers do not have multiple calls with the person for over an hour.
I do believe, however, that the longer you stretch this story out, the more it looks like you are trying to gain personally from it. Just put everything out there and move on with your life. What does your wife think about the “strip tease” you are doing on your blog regarding this issue?

These long, late night phone calls are mostly INCOMING so why would she call a man, that late at night, stay on the phone for over an hour? These phone records plainly state to me that something more than shop talk was going on. Ms. Haley has really put her foot in her mouth by saying she “barely knew” him.
And stalker? please! this woman is frankly an attention whore, not unlike her bff Sarah Palin. They will lie, manipulate and twist the facts to get attention and make themselves appealing. All the while, underneath they are just as slimy as those they call out for their ‘morality’ and ‘values’.
Phone records and texts do not lie. I say the ball is now in Ms. Haley’s court.

I love a good soap opera, and this is the best kind. You’ve got a family-values politician denying any wrong was done, but refusing to be transparent. You’ve got a blogger leaking tidbits to us, the scandal-starved public, either in a brilliant publicity strategy or a bid to save his neglected marriage. And, you’ve got supporters of the politician writing hateful nasty grams to the blogger for sharing his own records on the matter. I just love it, and I can’t help but wonder what Shakespeare would have done with this. My personal favorite is the person writing in as Bill Clinton. His advice to Nikki is hysterically funny. I don’t know who is guilty, and I personally don’t care, but this is very entertaining. I like it, because it takes my mind off the oil spill and my own problems at home. I’ll admit it. I’m a big, fat hypocrite too. I’m loving it.

Interesting approach to transparency. I guess she continues to follow the Sanfraud model of leadership – speak out of one side of her mouth while she blows smoke up our ***. Whether or not you like Folks, any open, honest assessment of dealing with this shows that Haley is not genuine. She calls for openness when it deals with everyone else, but hides under govt. privilege when it comes to her. IF there is nothing to hide, why not disclose? Certainly, enough govt. agencies have responded repeatedly to FOIA requests from the media that have proved embarrassing. Why does she think state agency employees should be treated differently than she is? Where’s the accountability? Say what you will about Folks – but it appears to me he’s the only one showing his cards (albeit slowly). She continues to deny, deny, deny. Reminds me of Bill Clinton: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman….”

This morning’s headline in The State:
“Scott, Haley wins would break new ground in SC.”
A Haley win would break no new ground as women have been sleeping their way to the top for many, many moons. This should not even be an issue to celebrate or ponder at this point.

Now, on one hand, you have Folks, which was NOT married at the time when the affair took place AND he is trying to come clean with his family and others.

If these phone records are true and Haley called Folks in the middle of the night and spoke for hours, that is enough to keep me from voting for her. I don’t care if they exchanged recipes and chatted about American Idol. It just shows such bad judgment at a minimum, that I would not want her to be our chief executive. Comments on a blog howking for him to hurry up will hardly change anything. He’s under no pressure to hurry. Haley’s under pressure with every post he makes. It is already quite clear to anyone with functioning cell tissue that Haley was lying, as was her campaign manager, and that Folks had something with her. They will hope he hasn’t enough, and that the media won’t do their job. I think she’ll tearfully confess in the next couple of days. More screaming and shouting at Folks. Don’t shoot the messenger. You’re breaking the State Newspaper’s heart!
First their golden boy Kirkman Finlay loses (thank God) his bid to be just like Daddy. The State protected Kirkman’s scandalous and well-documented behavior from the time when he and other losers from the City tried to change zoning laws to benefit a developer – a developer who was trying to put houses on contaminated land adjacent to the Columbia Organic Chemicals Superfund Site at Cedar Terrace. Little Kirky and his cohorts in crime tried to convince everyone a Superfund Site taken over by the EPA from DHEC posed no danger. It did, it does, the project was stopped in its tracks even though preliminary work was done and the city sent in workers to prepare the infrastructure, exposing them to unknown but acknowledged contamination. The State Newspaper protected their Golden Boy by refusing to consider the large body of evidence available that documents this story and by scrubbing all references to it in the comments section.
The same is true about the State Newspaper and Nikki Haley, Republican Hypocrite (yeah, I know it’s redundant). The State paper loves her SO much they unleashed the worst writer in SC, Bob McAlister, to rave about her. I remember it well – an obnoxious little piece about the hypocrisy of liberal women when faced with a working conservative mother. Yes, really. He said she said that somewhere someone said something (none of it ascribed or documented but the mean woman was an evil liberal Feminazi) that hurt Little Nikki’s feelings about being a working mother and a conservative. Bob McAlister, a living and breathing turd, went on to write a mish-mosh of Republican talking points and feigned outrage at the hypocrisy of liberals because, you know, some anonymous liberal bitch said something that hurt Nikki’s feelings about being a working mother.
Of course, what the State wasn’t reporting is that while Bob McAlister was drooling platitudes about Nikki’s wholesomeness and mothering she was actually banging someone who is NOT her husband. Take that to church, Mr McAlister! Liberal Bitch, indeed! The Feminazi was probably telling Nikki to keep her skirt on!
Next the State will unleash Warren Bolton for the ‘God Forgives (but Hates the Gays)’ angle and Brad Warthen will add an opinion ripe with the smell of your grandfather’s closet.

I don’t know who is advising you or if you are making these decisions yourself but the “slow burn” of releasing this information in a piecemeal way is destroying what credibility you have/had. This only allows your detractors more time to dig up dirt on you and claim to the public that if you really had something you would have revealed it by now. I had a friend that busted his “ex” with multiple others – between numerous and LONG calls to different individuals in the early morning hours (including prescriptions to Valtrex – yes his “ex” contracted HSV-2 along the way – Ha!Ha! – wasn’t he glad that he was not getting enough!!).
Amazingly, this same friend sent Haley, Cromer & Knotts an email requesting that they add an alienation of affection law to the books based on the US Supreme Court ruling (actually non-ruling) relative to a Miss. case that was upheld by their supreme court. Based on the non-ruling the US Supreme Court essentially sided with the Miss Supreme Court and upheld alienation of affection lawsuits.
Cromer & Knotts both wrote my friend back. This friend of mine who is a neighbor of Haley’s NEVER received a reply back in early 2008 – interesting timing (even after repeated requests). Purely coincidental?!?!?!

Haley is guilty, guilty, guilty – these LONG phone calls equate to ADULTERY – plain and simple – what is it actually going to take to convince some of these goons – actual footage of SEX – to prove adultery in Family Court, you need (1) inclination (these phone calls provide that proof) and (2) they have to be behind closed doors together. Should any witness come forward and swear that Nikke Haley was at his residence behind closed doors alone with Folks for a period of time, your case would be proved for Adultery in Court.
Of course Haley is not going to admit this – as I noted yesterday, all of you nut cases that claim that Haley is too pretty for Folks, someone should photoshop pics of Folks and her husband together.

Will says it happened and puts forward corroborating, though circumstantial, evidence. Nikki denies it happened and refuses to release any evidence that she would have beyond her bare denial.
Yeah, we haven’t got a picture of them doing the nasty, but so what? Circumstantial evidence is still evidence, and every ounce of it is against Nikki.
And if the Nikki campaign had evidence that Folks was going to shop this story, where are the lawyer letters threatening him with lawsuits and injunctions for defamation? Why is Folks sending Donehue texts asking Donehue not to let the story get out there? If Folks was really out to get Nikki, he would have let the story break naturally from Wes or B.J. through Jim Davenport, THEN confirmed it.
Folks proved it to me when Pearson apologized to him and when Pearson talked about keeping this “under wraps.” Both of those are consistent with Pearson knowing it’s true, and totally inconsistent with it being a false setup by Folks.

Okay, I can fathom calling an “employee” DURING THE DAY. Even a few evening calls here and there. But this stuff of for over an hour in the middle of the night?
Come on Haley, yeah, I have people that work for me too, but I don’t call them in the middle of the night and keep them on the phone for various lengths ranging to over an hour.
Maybe they were having phone sex? Two things:
1) This smacks of immaturity; yeah, I remember those late-night phone calls to my current flame “just to hear his voice” for hours on end;
2) This is a MARRIED woman having these late night/early morning phone calls with a dude….where was her husband? Out on Guard duty?

That is not what he would have done. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see this. CNN want to hire this fool?
More importantly, who gives a shit, really, if Folks was paid? That’s even worse for the Republicans, but it doesn’t alter Haley’s dilemma. If Pearson knew that Folks was going to drop this story but that it was invented, he would not have bothered ever speaking to the guy, let alone sending him multiple texts in the middle of a campaign just for kicks. He’d have told him he knew what he was doing, dared him to do it, and offered to see him in court. He didn’t do any of that because he knew it was true, and had done for a year. He and Folks were very obviously discussing whether or not someone else finally had enough evidence.

actually, I myself have worked on political campaigns. those call times and the lengths of those calls, honestly, aren’t especially noteworthy if you think about it.
you’re writing speeches, editing speeches, getting advice, talking rumors and gossip, talking about polls and results, planning out activities for the following day. it can take a good bit of time and typically you are doing those things late at night.

This is still not any proof. This is still a he said she said. This is not proof of anything. How do we know these are calls to and from will and nikki? This is just a copy and paste were is the actual copy of the phone log that shows who the calls are from and to. The one thats actually from the phone company. Also we dont know what the calls are about. Just calling someone isnt an act of infedelity. Yes if she actually did make all those calls some of which are late at night it doesnt look good but. Most of them are from him and are not answered. So once again this is just a way for this webpage to make money and not actually report any facts. If this story isnt blown up by the end of the work day its a dead story that will not survive the long weekend. Good luck with you scam will. You better bring the big guns before close of business.

Huh? makes a decent tangential point. Folks has very little honour in any of this, of course, because he’s only admitted any of this ‘when pushed’, which is what he is now trying to do to Haley. But seeing that Haley is a liar and a hypocrite doesn’t mean accepting that Folks is the second coming of Christ. Clearly, he’s far from that. He’s a sleazy political operator, too, and he’s now mad as hell and trying to get traffic while bringing down his ex-lover. Hell hath no fury like a political blogger scorned.

Honestly, if there was evidence that he talked to her, privately, all these times, perhaps he should provide it. For all we know he was talking to an assistant, or a campaign team. In fact I know many politcians who have conference lines so they can have their team on the phone planning strategies, etc. But if you believe this is ‘evidence’, then you must also agree that we would have to say that he had a sexual relationship with everyone he engaged in phone calls with.
And really, you need to get out of the 1950s. Married women have careers, they have male employees they interact with both during the day and off hours. I’ve handled some adultery cases in my day. This is exactly the sort of evidence that you get in those cases unless you have a PI out getting pictures. And it’s very strong evidence. I can’t think of a judge in South Carolina who wouldn’t make an adultery finding based on the evidence in play so far, especially considering Nikki’s refusal to release her records.
Nikki delusionals, don’t you all at least wonder why Nikki isn’t releasing her records? If all is as she claims, she was talking about work. Work work work. There would be emails backing that up, texts, etc. “That idea you had on the phone last night is great, let’s go to Beaufort and speak to the Such-and-Such Club about transparency.” Etc.
There is EXACTLY one reason that Nikki isn’t releasing her records, and it’s that absolutely all of them are consistent with Will’s side of the story and inconsistent with hers. I guarantee you right now, that if anything in all of that was consistent with Nikki’s denial, Team Haley would have put it out there. You all like transparency; well, Nikki’s “I’m too busy to deal with all of this” is TRANSPARENTLY BULLSHIT. I guarantee you that the Haley people have done nothing but deal with this since Monday. That’s how campaigns work.
Don’t be rubes, people. You like small government and transparency, fine. I’m sorry that your two heroes, Sanford and Haley, both turned out to be sketchy. Doesn’t mean your ideas are bad (they are good ideas actually), but you probably need to start looking for another champion.

If Folks was paid it shatters his credibility. He claimed to only release this story under pressure and duress and only to protect his family, whatever that means. If he was paid, combined with the drip drip of info, combined with him hamming it up during interviews on TV, indicate he did this for money, proving him to be a liar right out of the gate. If he lied about his reasons for pushing the story, then it can be assumed that he lied about everything, and forces the burden of proof to far exceed circumstantial evidence. If it’s true he lied about his reasons and was paid, then we would require photographic, video, or DNA evidence, because only then would his lies be overridden.

I am a little confused. You said you got married in June “of that year” (http://www.free-times.com/index.php?cat=1992209084141467&act=post&pid=11862405103707328) and that the affair happened BEFORE you got married. Based on the phone record you provided, most of the lengthy phone calls occurred AFTER June 2007. Most people are interpreting the lengthy late-night phone calls as evidence of an affair, but the timing doesn’t match up with your initial statement of the affair’s timing. Why were there so many lengthy late night phone calls AFTER June (when you were married) if the affair was over by the time you got married? This is very confusing.

Good points, Simple Pete. I found the radio interview annoying for two reasons.
1. The interviewer practically had an inappropriate relationship with her himself, he was so gooey, and he didn’t ask the obvious question that some people here are asking, namely ‘Do you really expect voters to believe that you were repeatedly calling this guy in the small hours of the morning and staying on the phone with him for hours to discuss work? He was a part-time consultant paid a couple of thousand dollars. Do you really think people are so naive? If my wife found that kind of phone bill, I’d be in big trouble, and rightly. Think she’d believe the story you just told me – seriously? How long do you intend to stick to this dumb story before you cave?’
2. Unlike Palin and some others, she sounded like she had a good brain, some good ideas and might actually have done a decent job. Shame about the moral pontificating, hypocrisy, lies and cover-up. She might have been good.

Yeah, I’ve worked on campaigns too and seen some sh*t. Yeah, I’ve witnessed some late night phone calls, etc. but typically its not HOURS long. What I find even curiouser is the calls during the DAY are virtually non-existent. Isn’t that typically when one conducts business?
I also love Haley’s “transparency” now — It doesn’t seem to suit her purpose now. So its just “not worth my time”.

If Haley was to release her info in would parallel negotiating with a terrorist under threat. It would inspire others to make similar crazy claims, putting all of the burden of proof on her, guilty until proven innocent.
She’s denied it and called his bluff. If he has a smoking gun he needs to put it on the table, because her denials are strong enough to require absolute proof. The fact that it’s coming out that Folks took money for this story only damages his credibility even more, as it would prove that the reasons he gave for releasing the story were lies.
The burden of proof lies solely with Folks. So far, he’s provided no evidence of any kind.

Friends, when I place or receive a phone call after midnight to/from a female friend, it’s usually not to talk about work, or “how your day went.”
I was skeptical at first…but there is some shady stuff going on here. And where was the husband while these phone calls were taking place?? Come on guys, if your girlfriend or wife was talking to a work colleague for hours late at night, you would be fine with it? Give me a break. Yes, women can have any career they want, and male friends are fine….but several late night phone calls, some lasting for hours? Shady.

Some of the text messages between him and Haley did occur after he was married, however, including one exchange that Folks’ wife discovered.
She responded by texting Haley back from her husband’s phone, identifying herself as Will’s wife and telling Haley to “keep it professional.” Obviously, that put an end to the texting.
Look, we’re not claiming he’s a saint. In fact, we’ve never claimed that.

Folks took money, and lied about his reasons for pushing the story. It’s safe to assume if he lied about that, that his entire story is a lie. Do to his dishonesty, the standard of proof is heightened. Circumstantial evidence is irrelevant due to the dishonest monetary reasons behind Folks pushing the story. A smoking gun is required. A recording, a video, DNA evidence at this point are the only thing that could override the dishonesty of taking money to push this story just days after Haly takes the lead in the primary.

The reason it doesn’t matter whether he was paid or not is because Pearson confirmed his SMS messages. He’s her campaign manager.
Pearson: Nikki, that guy Will is claiming you and he slept together and it might come out.
Haley: Will Folks?
Pearson: Yeah.

Pearson: Sure? Because I need to be behind this. If there’s any truth to it…
Haley: There’s no truth to it.
If Pearson’s telling the truth and his SMS messages to Folks were about trying to stop a false story getting out, he must have had that conversation with her, right? In which case, why did he send messages saying ‘If we keep this under wraps, nh will win’ and all the rest? Haley must have told him it was bogus, right? Of course she hadn’t.
That’s why it doesn’t matter what the hell Folks is up to. He’s published messages from Pearson, Pearson has confirmed they were real, they can only explain that Haley was having an affair with Folks and he knew that.
If you believe Pearson knew the story to be false and sent those messages, I have some property to sell you.
I would agree, though, that Folks needs to publish some more damning stuff to get this going. She won’t move on this, and it seems the media are eunuchs. The rest of the emails he published from her yesterday would do it, I expect.

This is beyond ridiculous. He has produced a mountain of circumstantial evidence, and Haley has produced nothing but a bare denial while refusing to release her own records on the subject. I have worked in politics a long time and have NEVER had a telephone call with a candidate from 2am to 5am. I have had some calls like that with members of the opposite sex, and I guarantee you we weren’t talking about politics.
In addition, Haley’s credibility on this is sinking. First, the claim was she didn’t know Folks that well. Bullshit, look at the phone records. Second, the claim was that they knew all along Will was going to do this to them because he was paid to do it. Bullshit, look at the Pearson texts. Combine all this with the fact that Pearson clearly treated this as legit in the texts, and I am convinced that Nikki did it.
If she’d released a bunch of records showing emails with Folks that were all business, I might still be on the fence. But she hasn’t, and doesn’t look like she’s going to. And even so, who the hell talks to a part-time employee that late at night? And if Nikki’s just a night owl, then why hasn’t she released her records to show a bunch of other calls to Pearson and other campaign people?
Haley supporters accuse everybody else of being rubes who blindly follow politics as usual. Who are the rubes now?

Folks has laid out a thourough case.
1. On Monday Folks makes a premptetive strike to stop vile campaign operatives from releasing news of his affair with a married woman. By doing so he assumes ownership of a hateful story that others had sought to destroy his family and Haley’s electability.
2. Haley immediately denies the story. Later Haley goes on the radio and denies the story once again plus adds that neither she or her campaign staff have been in contact with Folks prior to the disclosure of the affair.
3. On Tuesday morning Folks shares text messages exchanced with campaign operative Wes Donehue and Haley’s campaign manager Tim Pearson exchanged between May 14-20th. In those text messages Donehue shows his true colors while Pearson makes it perfectly clear he is working with Will to kill the story (often implying that he believes the story).
4. Later on Tuesday, Donehue tells the Post & Courier that he does not question the “validity” of Folk’s text messages. Pearson later admits to CNN that the text messages are accurate as well.
So here is the rub- On Monday Haley tells radio listeners that no one from her campaign had been in contact with Will Folks. Yet the text messages exchanged prior to the story breaking between Haley’s campaign manager and Folks prove otherwise. If you’re keeping score, then its already been proven that Haley and her campaign were not totally truthful when she denies contact with Folks and yet her campaign manager tells CNN that he had contact with Folks during this period by text messages.
Examine Folk’s phone records. Folk’s presents proof that he had hundreds of phone conversations with Haley. Some of these telephone calls happen in the middle of the night and last for hours. Someone should look at the dates to see if these calls coincide with election cycles when Folks would have been employed by Haley or during a time when no elections were occuring. As well, it would be interesting to see if Nikki had opposition during these election cycles which would have necessitated long phone conversations in the middle of the night.
Then there is the circumstanial evidence that members of the legislature told the media that the alledged affair had been an open secret at the State House for years. Go back and check the newspaper quotes by Representative Todd Rutherford and former Majority Leader Annette Young. Represenative Young said, just ask anyone in the Woman’s Caucus about the affair.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion on the time line of your side of the story.
I guess at this point, Mrs. Haley’s husband probably has some serious questions for his wife.
It seems obvious with the timing of the revelation and your history of supporting Mrs. Haley’s candidacy that you do not agree that a person’s breach of the marriage covenant and all the sneaking around that has to occur to facilitate an affair could have bearing in their ability to maintain integrity in public office. What are your thoughts on that?

Moving on from Haley – she is toast – Erickson stepping in suggests to me another media blitz will also play out connected with this, and it will go one of two ways. Erickson claims that someone paid Folks to dish this dirt on Haley, and that it was not a Democrat.
1. If he can prove this, or even make it blindingly obvious that he must be telling the truth about it, there will be a media blitz on GOP civil warfare that will make headlines around the world, and it will tie the GOP up for a long time sorting it out. Lots of people will have a lot of entertainment at the GOPs’ expense. So I’m not sure why Erickson would want that, but okay. That’s what will happen.
2. He can’t prove it. That’s also going to cause a media storm. With everyone, including Erickson, telling Folks to show real evidence or shut up, if Erickson drags this out as he is doing and then produces no real evidence, he will not be thanked by his supporters, by the GOP – or by CNN. It will totally wreck his credibility, such as it is, and Stewart, Colbert, HuffPost and the rest of Sarah Palin’s favourite people will pile in. No biggie, but actually, I think lots of people will pile in. Stewart already piled in because Erickson’s a joke. This will make him an international joke.
It’s going to be interesting either way, I think. And painful for the Republicans. Thanks, Mr Erickson!

If it were discovered or Haley admitted to an affair that happened for a short period 3 years ago, would those voting for Haley still vote for her. BTW, I’m voting for Sheheen, however Haley (and probably Bauer) are the 2 best choices on the GOP side. Also, Haley is advocating transparency in Government, not transparency into someones personal bedroom.

Prior to this story breaking, I was considering a primary vote for Haley, but was by no means certain. Since the story broke, I have been following it mostly out of a morbid sense of curiosity. Until today, I will admit that I was leaning toward thinking Folks to be a delusional scammer looking for a payday and Haley a victim of the good-ole-boys shenanigans. Now, with the knowledge of these late night phone calls lasting hours, I have come to think that Haley is probably hiding something, but I still think Folks is making things up. Follow me for a sec. I find it FAR more likely that Folks (and his phone)was acting as a go between for someone else that needed to NOT have any record of phone calls late at night with Haley. I even have someone in mind. And it makes me sick. I WAS a certain supporter of that loser. Oh the tangled webs we weave…

I cancelled my STATE when they stopped running editorials on Sat. -pretty insulting if you ask me. Course, it turned out well because I can read the WSJ and NYT, etc on line everyday.

I’ve done saome addtl checking and just from a psychological perspective, Clearly from what we have seen, he was stalking this women, from far and near. And when he got a chance to get closer to her, he wanted MORE MORE MORE. That’s why we’ve seen so many calls from him to her where she follows up with a call back. Surely he was calling saying – ‘I heard some good campaign dirt today, call me’. Then he kept her on the phone as long as he could…typical close stalker.
He appears to be a lot like Joe McGinnis, Sarah Palins stalker, who has moved in next to her. I guess next we’ll get the claim that Palin is sleeping with him, why else would she have him living right next store.
It says a lot about this guy that he’s now posting womens’ stalker/peeping tom pictures of womens legs. He’s obviously got a major problem in the sexual department and objectifies women in order to denigrate them. Clearly he’s got problems with strong women in positions of power. The video he posted on youtube says alot about his thinking as well. Put down the strong women with threats and intimidation.
I think she is very lucky she didn’t end up getting assaulted. I don’t doubt she may have had a inappropriate relationship with him, simply because she feared this type of stalker escalation. We’ve all seen the poor women walking that fine line of humoring some overbearing, often drunk guy at the party who’s all over her.

Odie, Erickson has claimed that the campaign knew a year beforehand that Folks was planning to drop this ‘fake’ story. A year later, and Pearson is stringing Folks along to find out that the guy is making it up, which he already knows? Tortuous, even for you.

Having a little experience with politics I know that campaigners work all hours…but anything that happens after 11 pm or midnight is generally not work related….can we say Booty Call! Some advice for Mr Folks, as it seems clear he’s reading these comments.
I am presuming you don’t have a smoking gun, ie a photo or a tape, but that you have more than you have presented so far. Find a bit you have that is from Haley to you, and that cannot be anything other than inappropriate and evidence of a relationship. Publish it, and point out precisely why you think it shows a relationship happened. Don’t expect the media to join the dots together, because they won’t. They’re lazy idiots, and many reacted to you sending them the phone records by shrugging and saying ‘Phone records! Wow. He worked for her’ and didn’t even look at them, despite you pointing out they were time-stamped. Hence your post today. So you will have to treat the media like kids and spell out why your evidence is damning, very clearly.
You might also want to briefly re-explain to them why the SMS messages, and Pearson’s confirmation of them, make it clear Haley is lying. The post by ‘Perry Mason’ above is a very good start. Perhaps a recap post.
I realize you want to give Haley the chance to confess herself before you reveal everything. She won’t, so you’re going to have to explain to your wife, who I guess must be very tired of this, that it is necessary to, and won’t be pretty. I’m guessing you don’t play well in the emails. But Haley is now counting on you chickening out. You can’t continue to post indicating you have more unless she reveals all. She will ride that out. So I would recap the story to date in your next post, and then end with a brief email excerpt from her that shows what happened very clearly. Indicate you can and are prepared to verify that this email was sent to your computer from her email address. If Haley’s camp deny she sent it, do that at once. I suspect, if you pick a juicy enough bit, they won’t, and she will cave. If it’s audiotape or a picture or texts, the same applies. People will doubt its veracity, so just say it’s real and you can and will prove it if it is called into question.
I don’t think you’ve come out well from this, but I think you’re smart and will realize that the media are useless, and she won’t concede this unless you bring a lot more so she has to.

What campaign was Folks working on in 2007 for Rep. Haley?
Haley won the seat in the June 2004 Republican Runoff election (where she beat incumbent Larry Koon). Unopposed in 2006. Nobody ran against her until November 2008, where unknown Democrat Edgar Gomez got killed 83%-17% after he raised a whopping $160 (and loaned himself an additional $2,400).
So what “campaign business” were Folks and Haley discussing during the 600 phone calls in 2007?
If it takes 18 months of planning (especially between the critical hours of 2-5am) for Haley to beat an unknown Democrat who only spends $2,600 in a heavily Republican House district, then she has bigger problems than sexual allegations!

Scanning these messages gives a good indication as to how the liberals in the media will attack if this story pans out (still quite unbeliavable considering Folks’ trollish features). Anyway, it’s going to become an attack on Sarah Palin, although there’s no proof that Palin knew about it. She endorsed Nikki solely on her conservative credentials but she’ll be ridiculed for endorsing an adulteress. Which I’m still not convinced. Even if the retyped and posted texts and calls on this website are true, how do we know that the calls were made by Nikki? Could it have been someone else with her phone…maybe a friend, relative, staffer. Who knows?

Erickson has the goods on Folks, proving that he was paid off to push this story. This contradicts what Folks has claimed, that he only released the story to protect his family. This lie allows us to assume that Folks is lying about other details as well. Folks’ lie about his reasoning taints his entire story, and places the standard of proof far higher. Circumstantial evidence is no longer enough due to the pay off and the dishonesty Folks has shown, combined with his dreadful history of domestic violence. Because Folks’ character flaws are so awful, and his pay off so damning, the burden of proof now demands a smoking gun for any of it to be believed.

There was hard evidence against Sanford. Where is the evidence against Haley? Records of phone calls from employee and employer? Texts that show a campaign trying to stop the spread of rumors? You don’t think McCain’s camp sent messages to try and stop the ‘black child’ smears?
Haley has an impeccable record, and has been nothing but classy in her career. Folks has admitted in the past to taking money to spread false stories and has plead guilty to beating his ex-girlfriend. Based on this display of character, the benefit of the doubt lies with Haley until a smoking gun can be provided.

The real truth here is that Folks doesn’t have a smoking gun. He was hoping the firestorm would bring Haley to some sort of admission, but she held tough.

I am just thankful for the transparency that exists in the House. Without transparency, we would never know how uninvolved Mrs. Haley has been in conducting the real business of being a lawmaker. She always has time to grandstand, but seems to lack the commitment to show up to work everyday and focus on all the details of her job. It’s easy to hop on a soapbox and spout off rhetoric, but it seems she is unwilling to roll up her sleeves for the dirty work…unless, of course, it involves a rendezvous with Sic.

1) There probably was some sort of “inappropriate relationship”, the specific nature of which remains to be defined.
2) Fits is an attention whore who doesn’t give a rip about Nikki, Nikki’s family, or his own family but is absolutely reveling in his ability to use this to drive traffic to his blog.

Now that Hot Air has called Redstate’s bluff, look for LOTS of backpeddling by Erickson.
Erickson was fed his garbage bythe same Sanfraudians that are backing Haley. The problem is, to people not involved in SC politics, that the Sanfraudians come off looking like the true-believing fiscal conservatives that most GOP operatives relate to. The truth is that the Sanfraudians run groups like the SC Club for Growth, ReformSC, etc, but are actually much more interested in holding onto power than in reform itself, although they do want reform…just reform THEY are in charge of.
Will Folks was a part of that group; but only a paid worker, not a decision maker but rather someone who could do their dirty work while they kept their hands clean. He was a means to an end.
Those Sanfraudians hitched their wagon to Haley…she had showen herself to be a willing tool for them in her quest for power. They have poured millions into the Haley for Governor campaign as part of their bid to control SC executive government. Additionally, they have alienated the other candidates running for governor and the legislative leaders HATE them. If Haley doesnt win the GOP primary, they will be locked out of state political power for 8 years…they have invested WAY to much money to let that happen without putting up a fight.
Folks knows these people. My conjecture is that he never dreamed that they would turn on him with such a vengance. I think he knew he wouldnt win friends or influence people, but for whatever reason, he took this course of action.
The Sanfraudians are DESPERATE. Haley is their only chance for power. They will throw Folks over the cliff and Haley under the bus to try to keep power. Polls showing Haley with a double digit lead before this story broke encouraged them to try to tough it out. Their hope is for Haley to win the primary, ahd given the GOP leanings of the state and the hatred for Obama, they believe Haley would still win in November, no matter what is proven, confessed or alleged…they have to hold on until June 8, less than 2 weeks away.
Haley is NOT going to confess before the primary. She is lying about the affair. She, Folks and half of Columbis knows it.
What no one is sure about is what will the voters do. Haley and the Sanfraudians have NO CHOICE but to tough it out.
We will see what happens.

On The State website, no one can seem to give any good explanation of why a married woman is talking to another man in the middle of the night when the legislature is not in session, it is not an election year and a couple of these days are on school nights. I would like to see a good explanation from the Haley camp to explain these late night extended phone calls. Can absolutely anyone tell me they have been on the phone in the middle of the night working on business related issues for 2+ hours (not a chance).

I am certainly not a candidate defender, but just common sense tells me there are many simple defenses.
First of course are so many of these calls were initiated by Folkes that lasted one minute. Obviously he kept initiating contact and that clearly increases the number of calls exponentially where no actual conversation took place.
Second, we don’t know if the call was with Haley, an assistant, a campaign aid, her husband, etc. In fact, we don’t even know if she was home and he was calling a conference line and talking to others on the campaign.
None of these so-called records demonstrates any ‘long conversation’ with Haley so I don’t see the reason for trying to explain a long conversation that there is no evidence for to begin with.
Some of these so-called calls if I am to believe the list occurred after Folkes got married and was engaged. Is he trying to tell us this affair continued into his dating, engagement and marriage with his current spouse? Because I thought he claimed that it ended before this relationship.

It is pretty creepy how similar Folkes is to Joe McGinnis.
McGinnis moves from Massechusetts, rents a house right next to Palins house and gets caught watching her mow the lawn from his deck.
When the press comes to talk to him about his stalking, he claims the right to priuvacy and threatens to call the police if people invade his space.
Joe’s answer is he’s not stalking her, he’s simply writing a book on her PUBLIC activities. Well, since 99% of her ‘public’ appearances are in the lower 48, why move to Alaska? And why right next door to her private residence?
His story just doesn’t ring true, and neither does Folkes.
He has provided ZERO evidence this so-called story was about to break. The damning evidence he purports was about to come out hasn’t materialized, the proof is a bunch of meaningless text messages and phone records.
Can you imagine what the media would have done to Ken Starr if all he had on Clinton was some innocent text messages and phone records showing two phone numbers connected for a given amount of time.
They would have tarred and feathered him for bringing such weak crap.

To bring down Haley, you’ll have to produce more than what you’ve shown so far. Still, that’s pretty weak that he “got in front of this thing,” becasuse of that. I think the guy bluffed him and Will took the bait and created a shitstorm that didn’t need to be created. Maybe Will was tempted to brag about it, so all it took was a small push to “force” him to admit to the affair. The evidence he was getting out in front of this thing was the Free Times article that was published three hours after WF posted his confession on Monday Morning. That article had multiple on the record sources and obviously wasn’t slapped together in three hours. It was clearly already written and once they had confirmation (i.e. WF’s admission) they ran with it.
They also admitted they had been working on that story for weeks.
So yes, there was indeed a story to get out in front of.

The fact that Will cannot have a family is probably the worst dehumanization I’ve seen from comments. Instead, only think about the other family, you know, the one that’s on paid advertising to send a message of family values…
It’s not personal to us. It’s personal to Will. As a blogger, I think it’s worth the benefit of the doubt as long as he remains consistent. I just have a question that hasn’t been asked about the post here on the site.
It says that over 1000 pages of calls numbering around 700 were released to local reporters on Thursday. Then a note about calls made late at night for long periods of time. I’m scratching my head as to why the phone numbers weren’t included in the listing as usual in phone records. It is possible that calls were from other locations or cell phones as well as possible 3 way calls. Cutting out detailed info and no photo details make me say the old saying – It didn’t happen without physical proof IE pictures.

After reading some of this story, one wonders if Mrs. Folks would prefer her husband had a short affair that ended rather then have to suffer daily with a clear misogynist who objectifies and then denigrates women; most likely due to his own feelings of inadequacy.

One can so plainly see from his youtube video production to his peeping tom like ‘legs’ shots, he clearly is threatened by women in power positions. This only adds to the ridiculous drip, drip game he is playing on Rep Haley and her family. Just another means to torture a women. I would have to believe at some point Mrs Folks eyes will be opened to this fact, if her parents/friends weren’t bright enough to realize it long ago.
One would guess the first push or slap is going to be a huge wake-up call.
And here’s hoping he hasn’t gotten any secret pics or videos that will eventually find their way onto the Internet of the ‘former’ wife.
I can hope that his own Mother isn’t witnessing what her son has turned into, I am sure any and all associates of his currently excuse it as a means to and end, and there’s probably not much going to church and contemplate what God thinks of this denigration of women.

Upon further review we find Will Folks was the source for the Free Times so-called article that was about to be published.
The story was based on a person telling the newspaper that Folks had told him he slept with Haley.
So Folks was the ‘source’ of the original story, secondhand.
Now let’s be clear, I totally believe the story that Folks, pumping up his own ego, relayed to others that he had ‘tapped that’ when Haley went walking by. Its sounds totally like his personality.

I asked my wife if she would have had a problem if upon opening the Verizon bill she saw 700 hours of a number of a female co-worker (provided of course she was working nights or in a coma). She was not receptive to this sort of discovery. So my question then is “Where’s Mr. Haley on all this”? Has he made any sort of public statement to either dismiss the story or even anger over these “false allegations”? Or, is he still in a coma? On a common sense level this story is scoring pretty low.
Hopefully we will wind up with McMaster/Sheheen and be done with the rest of it.

SCVoter, I understand. I’m just saying the consistency of story has been on Will’s side. He’s also the subject of a very intense national PR response. I don’t see this being SOP for any accuser to let the accused receive so many opportunities for an out, especially since text messages were not denied. If the txts were not affirmed, the calls not argued, etc., you’ve got to wonder what else is nolo contendre. Seems like Will’s telling it straight up, imo. Eventually the excuses run into common sense. Late night calls, reports of witnesses, all circumstancial. But man, how many circumstances can you burden before the weight collapses the bridge? All this proves is that they talked on the phone. And what I find very interesting is the way Folks said “inappropriate physical relationship”, to me that says that he did not have sexual contact with her or he would have said “sexual”. In my opinion they may have gotten emotionally involved, talking on the phone, etc. then I think Folks possibly made a physical pass at her which Haley in turn rejected. That’s my thoughts.

Actually, you are completely factually inaccurate. The one minute phone calls are clearly instances where Will Folks attempted to contact her, but was unsuccessful. That is why they register as one minute. So these weren’t even calls where they talked and they account for about 24% of the calls.
It is more like Folks called her voice mail and said: ‘I found some dirt, give me a call.’

I do feel Haley’s pain.
This guy is giving her a slow death by drip drip drip.
If I were Haley, I would come clean from the beginning and ask SC voters and my family for forgiveness. After that, I would tell the voters about my performance during the last 3 years and let them decide.
Sooner or later the whole truth will come out. I’m sure WF has more than records of phone and text messages.
I won’t vote for Haley because the whole thing shows:
- she lacks good judgement: Haley must realize that she’s living in SC, not France. This kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.
- she lacks people skill by using and trusting men like W Folks.
- she lacks character: a hypocryte and hopeless liar. I don’t buy the argument that she and WF made lengthy business-related phone conversations.
- she doesn’t know when to concede.

libertarian and YeahRight – Y’all are funny. What do you mean “no proof?” Text messages and 700+ phone calls would be what is called “physical evidence” in a court of law.
Here’s what they already prove:
Haley is a liar. She said “I hardly know him (Folks).” How do you “hardly know” someone you’ve talked with for hours at a time, and who you’ve connected with on the phone over 700 times. Haley’s a liar. That proves that fact with physical evidence provided by Will Folks.
Haley campaign is a liar. Statement that “nobody from our campaign has been in touch with Folks before the affair was disclosed” is proven to be a lie by the text messages that have been released. This has been proven to be a lie by the physical evidence that Folks has presented.
I’ll leave it to you that, since Haley and her campaign are now proven liars due to physical evidence (phone records, text messages), whether 2-3 hour late night into early morning phone conversations constitute being “100% faithful,” but I’m anticipating the next batch of physical evidence to be released by Will Folks – with popcorn.
That’s additional evidence to the evidence he has already released that prove Haley and her campaign are liars.

For purposes of a divorce on the grounds of adultery South Carolina Family Courts require a showing of motive and opportunity.
Clearly, if the business of Haley’s car being parked outside is true, there is more than enough here to make a prima facia case of adultery on her part.
This should shift the burden to her camp to now prove the allegations are not true.

I work with people eight hours a day, and some I don’t even know if they are maried, engaged, I don’t know what religion they are, I don’t know if they are gay or straight, I don’t know where they live, I don’t even know if they have children, or how many…etc. etc.
I can certainly believe someone was on the phone talking business and knew absolutely nothing personal about the person on the other end.
First of all, these calls were over three years, second 25% of them they didn’t even speak to each other. Third, we have no idea who Folks talked to, just because he called her phone..was it her, an assistant, a campaign aid?
I am sure people have called her office hundreds of times and only spoken to a secretary, or an assistant. He has provided ZERO evidence that she was the person on the phone with him, only that the phone number was in some way associated with her.
In fact, one news organization called the one number Folks gave as being hers and it was an answering service. You can call it all day long and never ‘speak’ to Haley.
I can certainly see an up and coming politician like Haley using Folks as a resource, finding out all he knew about the other politicians in the state, the people in the Governors office, etc. etc. If that took some late night phone calls to gather all that intel, well then good for her.

Almost a week ago, the voters of SC were drug into the the adulteress mess of a canidate for governor and a blogger. Since that day, voters are consistantly lied to by someone on a daily basis. If the a canidate for governor is lying to the people of SC the voters have a right to know and should expect to be told the truth.
The 100% proof has not been released yet but voters were told it would be forth-coming. The damn gubernatorial election is in 9 days so please don’t hold the voters hostage any longer if Fits has the proof. The public deserves to know if they are being lied to by a canidate by denying the affair and smearing another’s name.
Ms. Haley has refused to release any possible records but had promised more transparency if elected? Is she lying about that, as well? Who knows. Apparently voters don’t need the truth in order to make a canidate decision.
Dammit–would the person who knows the truth please tell the voters of SC before June 8 so a decision knowing all the facts knowing all the facts and not having to wonder if their still being lied to? The voters are the real victims in this mess.

In forensics, we usually look for the dog that didn’t bark. Will Folks is the one who has put out in public pretty much everything we have been told about this alleged relationship.
But go back up to the top and see what is NOT there. What do you NOT see in those phone calls?
Folks was working for Haley during these long phone calls, but notice he never called her during the day? So if these nioght calls were all full of hanky panky, just when was he actually conveying any work product to her?
Clearly these calls were work related and the only time she had available for him was in the evening/at night.
Why no daytime calls? Do you not call your lovers during the day?

Uh, Pops. That’s a brilliant catch, except for one thing. When he called Nikki re work during the day, like normal people not in relationships do, he called her at her place of business, at her office. The calls to and from her at home were for other reasons.

It is Sunday morning and I am still bored.
I appreciate topicality….that is making FITS like the top national story
….BP…. leaks and drips….Will leaks and drips…..Haley suffers from the delusion that somehow she comes out of this elected and untarnished.
Some thoughts.
With out a doubt…. FITS is now known through out the State…..many of the “closeted” minds of the GOP faithful….. either never visited or were afraid of seeing a picture of some strange pussy and having a sinful event
……that is over now…….FITS is a part of the political fabric now more than ever …..sorry Little Digger…. shit happens right.
After the holiday… a picture will surface in the FT with Halley’s head in his lap….which will bring up the point of “Do you really know someone until you blow them”.
Who took the picture and offered it up will be talked about for a long time.
One of the facts lost on all the newbies….newbies we welcome to this dialog on the State’s political chicannery…. is the fact that Will was a staunch supporter of Reform …the same Reform that Nikki had as her platform and that she embranced….although not with the same maniacal truculence of Mark.
Many of the State’s vested interests have tried and spent large dollars in the investigation of Will…. ever since Will has been muckraking ……perhaps …..as I think we have read on the site…the anti-Folks interests were operating photographic intel gathering on Will …..and came across an opportunity to gather a chip to play at a later date. That date was last week.
I find it hard to argue that something was not clearly going on between them….Nikki screwed up when she dissembled on the subject of any type of relationship and the reverse spin of claiming he is a stalker and trying to slime him is emblamatic of the silly immature advise that some so called political consultants hand out to clients and get paid for.
Whether Will should have pre-announced before the release…. is to deny how disaster are handled by professionals in PR……PR pros are clearly not advising Hally.
Always controll the microphone or at least secure your own micro phone when the shit hits the fan.
I do not see the Reformers screaming that adultery does not really have anything to do with the fiscal platform she is supporting.
Adultery is only an issue with the Upstate religious right wing…..not the Upstate Tea partiers or the Upstate voters going with other candidates….so on Tuesday… the other campaigns are going to pick up this ball and run with it and that is when it is going to get really ugly.

Oh, Pops, to address your earlier answer where you attempt to prove that someone can talk on the phone over 700 times, yet it’s an honest answer (to you) to say, “I hardly know him.”
I can think of a couple of people in my work who I talk with all the time (during normal business hours in daylight), and one thing I know for sure. If Debbie, Scott, or Malka ever alleged any impropriety, I would be laughed at if my response was “We worked together. I hardly know her (him).”
That’s laughable, and you know it. I know all kinds of things about all these people that come out in normal work conversations. I certainly know who they are – which was the gist of Haley trying to distance herself from someone who she talked with AT HOME LATE AT NIGHT, many, many times.
And, again, that doesn’t even address their actual work relationship which took place re calls to HER OFFICE DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS.
Again, your “explanations” of her lies are making you look desperate and devoid of common sense.
Name one person who you’ve talked with on the phone over a hundred times that you “hardly know.” Now consider if your profession was politician or campaign operative – both jobs where learning about people and their reactions are key. It strains credibility to allege the two principals who make a living on knowledge of people and their motives would “hardly know each other” after more than 700 conversations.
And the impression she wanted to make was that he was such a minor player that she didn’t know anything about him, much less was involved with him.
Again, that’s a lie. The phone records prove that it’s a lie. Deal with it.

I hate to say but people in the south are too naive to understand some cunning tactics. It is very common in other countries to use religion to get fame and success. She started planning twenty years ago. Realized that it was easier in SC to be a republican than a democrat. Then she converted to Christianity.
I am amazed by her consistency of keep going to the church every week even if she did not have the Christian faith.In an interview given to a Sikh journal on July-28-2009, she identified herself as “Nimrata Kaur Randhawa” and added that she was proud to be a Sikh.
Southern people are easily fooled. No wonder southern states are poor.

I’m with you Paris, the spinmasters are at work here, trying to discredit Folks. I guess they are assuming that we the public are of average intelligence and not likely to look beyond their conversation of distraction. The truth is within the information that Mr. Folks has already shared. As the old saying goes, “timing is everything” and if you look at the time that a huge percentage of these calls/texts were made, if I were a married man and my wife was talking with someone at those times of night, business or not, I would put a quick stop to it, furthermore, if I were a married woman who had any respect for my husband, I would not accept calls or make calls at those times, again out of respect for my husband and kids. It’ll all come out shortly, despite the spinmasters efforts to put this off until after June 8. The best thing Haley could have done was to admit it and move on. She would have gained a lot of respect for having come through this and repaired her marriage, but, by listening to her advisors, she’ll soon eat “the crow.”

The people who want Folks to let it all out now are Bauer and Barrett supporters who want to see her come in third in the primary in the hopes that their candidate gets to take on McMaster.
The people who are calling Folks a LIAR are the Haley people who are hopeing that she can still win the primary and they assume she can win in the fall given how poorly the Dems are statewide.
Even Redstate and the Ace of Spades have had to backtrack regarding their attacks on Folks.
I am not defending Folks behavior but I am saying that he is being honest and I think TRIED to chart a course that would not have damaged Haley in the same manner, but she and the Sanfraudians decided to go for broke, which meant trashing Folks.

Actually, the phone calls between the two parties prove inclination. The only other item that you need is opportunity. One eye witness’ statement that they physically saw Ms. Haley enter Folks’ condo and no one else was present proves opportunity. The Court would even accept testimony of the other party noting they had had the relationship (i.e. Folks’ admission).
My friend busted his “ex” spouse on multiple cases of adultery. He figured out the majority of the cases via phone records and couple of the cases were based on talking to men very late at night – some of the calls even occurred when he was home (i.e. the two parties would sneak out of bed with their spouse and call one another).
The workaholic comments are hilarious. If any of you pro-Haley folks have a good looking spouse, please send me their cell phone number and perhaps we can talk for 2 to 3 hours at night. I am a workaholic as well and quite frankly, I do not know of one case where I have talked to someone (i.e. my supervisor or client) for 2 to 3 hours after midnight. For folks to believe these calls to be anything other than calls associated with an affair is just being dumb and dumber.
But I suppose with your support, we will have the Luv Guv (Sr) being followed in office by Luv Guv (Jr). I would love to know where the code is that 1/2th of an adulteress relationship or the spouse of an adulter or adulteress is not suppose to tell others. My friend contacted one of his ex spouse’s wives and his “ex” and her adulterous partner got mad that he had done so.
Come on guys, have you not ever bragged to your friends when you did this or that? It is phenomenal that you folks continue to back this person – ideas yes, but the messenger is not who you want to back.

Michael, a number of years back I closely followed the Duke Lacrosse case (you know, the one with a FALSE ACCUSER saying she was raped by a number of the players). That FALSE ACCUSER (Crystal Mangum) had her false accusations actively promoted by the politically ambitious District Attorney (Mike Nifong). After the lacrosse players and their families were dragged through hell for a long time, it was eventually proven that the whole thing was a HOAX. The players were exonerated (and made quite wealthy through settlement of their subsequent civil suits), Crystal Mangum (along with a number of others who bore false witness) was proven to be a liar and the DA Mike Nifong was disbarred and disgraced.
On the internet boards at the time of the lacrosse hoax there were a large number of folks who posted comments and the thing I noticed most about them was their DESPERATE NEED TO BELIEVE THE ACCUSATION regardless of the lack of proof (and actually presence of proof and evidence that it was a hoax). The reason that Nifong came to the end he came to was that, once he had hold of the “tar baby” of a hoax, he didn’t know how to let go of it (or perhaps he just couldn’t bring himself to let go of it). So it will be interesting to see how Will Folks plays the “end game” of this apparent (apparent to me anyhow) hoax. Will he be able to end it before it destroys him? At least Nifong had his pension to fall back on; very few blogs have pension plans for their contributors. And what will happen to the folks who desperately want this accusation to be true? I feel very sorry for them.

The challenge still stands, regardless of what you think of these phone records, Folks himself tells us there is REAL, physical evidence of an affair. He said this evidence had been given to the media and was the sword being held over him and the swicthblade in his face.
So where is this evidence, that HE said was there. Why hasn’t he told us
exactly what that evidence is. If it was so damning to ge a sword or swicthblade requiring him to divulge this publicly, then we don’t have to rely on these meaningless phone records.

Man, After hearing her on WTMA (internet radio) My husband and I both decided we will have to vote for someone else. We don’t know who yet. My sister and her daughter (18 yrs) just loved Nikki and convinced us that we should vote for her. My sister will not be voting for Nikki but her daughter apparently sees nothing wrong with an extramarital, inappropriate physical relationship. She even said that all politicians lie and that it is time we have a female gov. SAD! But that’s 3 votes she damn sure won’t be getting. I’m sickened by this and I’m glad that Will Folks had to out her before the primary. But I’m really dissappointed that We only have 1 week to figure out who to vote for. Really screwed up.

Just Another SC Voter – You are the one being played, by Nikki Haley and her campaign. Whatever you think of Will Folks, his unseemly “kiss and tell,” or his tactics of leaking evidence – the fact is, he is leaking solid evidence that proves Nikki Haley is a liar, and her campaign is lying.
Nikki Haley responded to Folks’ original allegation by stating the this couldn’t be because “He worked for me. I hardly knew him.” Then Folks released evidence of over 700 phone calls, some of them 2-3 hour phone calls to Haley’s house after 10:00 pm and lasting into and through the early morning. How can she say she “hardly knew him?” Her implication was that Folks was some worker bee who she barely knew. This is a lie. She knew him very well – according to the EVIDENCE (phone records).
Also, Haley’s campaign stated flatly that they were not in contact with Folks until after Folks made his allegations public. This is a lie. Folks released physical evidence of text messages from Haley’s campaign staff that discussed covering up this matter well before Folks released his story. So, that’s another lie, proven by EVIDENCE that Folks has released.
Who’s being played by whom? Stop defending the liar who won’t release any evidence that would show her side of the story to be true. How about the phone records showing all the other worker bees of hers who called her anytime of the night or day? This evidence exists and it would back up Haley’s story – that she “works all hours of the day and night. Ask anyone who knows (her).” She can’t, so she won’t. She’s trying to play you to go with her stalling technique, vote for her, and then she will reveal everything about this story and her response.

I don’t think you would want to be convicted and given the death penalty based on the non-existent so-called evidence that Folks has posted. First off, he hasn’t posted any actual documents, he has supposedly transcribed data. Why not some pdf scans of some actual records??
And the biggest mistake Folks has made is he has claimed there actually is damning physical evidence of this relationship that has been turned over to the media….SO WHY HASN’T HE SHOWED US THAT OR TOLD US WHAT IT IS. And why hasn’t any media organization made it public??
As for the text messages, he hasn’t releed anything that showed any evidence or any communication with Haley. And his communication with Pearson shows Pearson believeing no afair took place and any so-called evidence would have to be manufactured:

You are confusing “evidence” with “proof.” If fingerprints of X are at a crime scene, the “evidence” shows that X was at the site, not “proof” that X committed murder. Evidence shows what it shows.
The evidence – phone records and text messages – shows what it shows. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not saying Nikki had sex with Will. Look it up. None of my posts make that allegation because the evidence so far doesn’t prove that. But the evidence proves what it proves.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE (phone records) proves Nikki is a liar. (700 + phone calls – “He worked for me. I hardly know him.”) That’s impossible. Name one person in your life that you’ve made 100s of phone calls to that you “hardly know.” Use your sense.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE (phone records) proves that Nikki, a married woman, had many, many late-night-into-early-morning phone conversations with a single man.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE (text message logs) proves that Nikki Haley’s campaign was in contact with Folks discussing this matter well BEFORE his allegations were published. Her campaign lied about that.
If you were in a court of law and you had made these statements, and an attorney brought forth phone records and text message logs to impeach your testimony, you could indeed be convicted on such evidence.
I am beginning to think that you are ignorant of what the word “evidence” means. Fingerprints are evidence, blood samples are evidence, undoctored photos are evidence. Phone records and text message logs are evidence – just like credit card records are evidence. They all show what they show.
Again, the evidence shows Haley is lying about this. I believe that shows that she is lying about the rest of the so-far unproven love affair innuendos (at this point). You don’t. That’s okay. It doesn’t mean that Folks hasn’t released solid evidence supporting his allegation. What has Nikki Haley submitted so far besides lies?

Paris: All the records show is that Will Folks had a relationship with Nikki Haley’s husband. Folks called Haley’s husband at all hours of the night.
Folks told me in 2007 he had a thing for Michael Haley and was talking with him late at night while Nikki was asleep.
I have yet to see any Verizon records published. Would you point me to them, because all I’ve seen is Will’s transcripts with no confirmation.
The media has all the physical evidence I am telling the truth so I had no choice but to admit Will had an illicit affair with Michael.
In addition, all the media says they cannot confirm that either Nikki or Will were the people who were actually speaking to each other because the phones numbers had been used by various people.

Paris Sailin, I loved your long dissertation on what is ‘evidence’, but you failed to state the obvious. All evidence has to be VERIFIED. Where is the testimony under oath that these records are accurate?
Where is the testimony that they were produced by Verizon and not altered?
Where is the testimony that the phones numbers Folks claims are Haley’s are actually her’s?
Where is the testimony that Folks and Haley were the two people who were conversing?
For all we know Folks called Haley about work and then said: Hey, is your husband there, I have a question about muffler brackets for my 1972 Pinto. And then the men talked cars for an hour.
No court and no jury would accept as evidence a pile of papers thrown at them with absolutely no testimony and no corroboration about what they purport to show.
I certainly remember during MonicaGate, everyone rejected the evidence showing logs of when Monica was in the WestWing and BIll headed down to his office. Or all the evidence about trying to keep her quiet and get her a job – hile he was just being helpful. Nobody wanted to believe it until we had his semen all over the blue dress.

Pops, for someone who talks so much about this event, you have little background knowledge of it. All of the records that Folks has released, the phone records and the text transcripts HAVE BEEN VERIFIED as accurate by the Haley campaign. Pearson said they were accurate. It is in all the news accounts. Look it up. Again, the Haley campaign has conceded that the text message transcripts are accurate.
The phone records were from Verizon. The Haley campaign has not disputed them, they have explained them, thus tacitly VERIFYING them as accurate. Haley herself, in referring to them in an interview, explained them with the statement “I work around the clock, 24 hours a day. Ask anyone who knows me.” She didn’t say, “Those records are phony.” Because, they’re not.
If they were phony, this could be easily established in about an hour, and the Haley campaign could go to a judge with a statement from Verizon, and get a temporary restraining order on Folks. No one is disputing the phone records. The official campaign response was “All this proves is that Nikki Haley and Will Folks talked to each other.”
Nobody said anything about Folks talking with Mr. Haley. Nobody has denied that these records are accurate.
But of course if you would actually know anything about the events so far from reading the newspaper accounts, you wouldn’t keep making ridiculous statements like implying that Mr. Haley talked with Folks on the phone at home.
Again, Haley has already “explained” these calls as being work-related, thus verifying that they had been made.
What exactly is your comprehension problem?

Pops – Again you misstate the facts that are already out in the public record. Nikki Haley did not say “I didn’t know him personally” as you made it out to be. What she said (and you can refer to the news accounts if you don’t believe me) is “He worked for me for awhile. I barely knew him.”
The word “personally” was never used. Her implication was that he was some employee who she barely knew. Then the phone records were released that showed she had phone contact with Folks at her home over 700 TIMES! And that’s not counting the times when he communicated with her during the day at her office.
That’s like talking to someone ON THEIR HOME PHONE every day for nearly two years, sometimes for 2-3 hours at a time from 11PM till 3AM, and then when asked, saying, “I barely knew him.”
That’s a lie, and you know it, even if you won’t say it. We all understand. You like Nikki as a person and as a candidate. Hey, I like Bill Clinton, but I know he lied about having sex with that woman.

SCVoter, I think it’s fine to be skeptical. But the thing is, both sides have stories that conflict. As it stands, I buy Will’s story more than Nikki’s, especially after she followed the playbooks of PR advisors, “other consultants” like Red Sea, LLC (paid a $15,000 initial consultant fee, conveniently prior to catching Palin-fever).
30 hours of equally-instigated late phone conversations over the duration of whatever the relationship is (I think that’s the point of putting out these specific records) indicates a far different impression of personal connection. See, either Nikki’s in with Will, or not. Nikki immediately distanced herself, which means she’s not being honest with the 900+ minutes of initiating contact with Will (he ALWAYS picked up, if you take note of the records, which means Will sure liked answering the phone when a specific number came up).
Could it have been Will and Nikki staying up plotting a Gubernatorial run? Sure. That’s quite a plausible explanation, that is, if Haley explained that off the bat in public. I am a night-owl myself, I can understand.
But since Haley tacked heavily to acting like Will was a minor issue indicates she’s not telling the truth at all. The initial PR attack on Will is akin to throwing a hand grenade after a hornet.
This brings me to a question of the response. The only reason I picked up on this story was that someone called in the cavalry. Then text messages made me laugh (I am up in Detroit, the home of press and phone record scandals). The irony here is that it exposes what all political advisors use for speaking in plain sight.
Word of Advice: During a speech, watch the candidates advisors, with heads down on the Blackberry. And then watch the press.
You have to have clout in the world to get Palin to post a diatribe. Much more interconnectivity to get Erick Erickson suddenly FLUSH with sources that never panned out, and such a weak conclusion of Bauer. Who’s really playing whom, I say?
They know Will’s got the goods. Why would they respond in such a panicked manner? They can’t introduce material, because it puts the ball in Will’s court to release rebuttal content, and they can’t control Will.
Their message is trumped by their inability to actually know the truth themselves. And while you can call in PR favors, you can’t control the message. The longer Will is out there, the worse it gets for Haley, imo.
Hey, if I’m wrong, I’m eating a murder of crows. But I’d stay away from promoting Haley, who has put out zero information other than confirming Will’s text messages and phone calls. It’s hard to claim “no comment” with all the commenting going around.

My guess is that Folks and Haley probably did have something going at the side, and that is why she hasn’t sued him for libel. It could be something illegal or just some serious flirting, and that’s why Folks has not produced any other evidence besides phone records.

Note her advertisers he is unfair and IMBALANCED.
In 2008 he clearly stated he ‘wished’ he could have a sexual relationship with Rep Haley.

Why do you continue to make this false claim. We still have not seen the full records, but as you told me, LOOK at the phone records. More than 25% of these calls were a minute or less, of the sample provided. These are what you call ATTEMPTS to contact. So right off the top, you can delete 25% of your 700. That leaves 525. Then you can divide them up over 3 years. Second, these calls were NOT to her home, they were to a cell phone, a message service and various other numbers he ‘claims’ belong to her or him in some fashion, again with ZERO confirmation of that claim.
But let’s play your game, look at the list of phone records he provided. So at what point did the physical relationship occur? Was it after the first long phone call to her home, the sixth, the tenth?
If your so sure, why can’t you pinpoint the exact dates they engaged in physical contact based on the lenght of the telephone record??
There are long phone calls in July…you think it started then? If so, then why do you excuse the long phone calls in February, March and June?
Are you saying the physical relationship HAD to occur before any nightime phone call? Is that your point?
If will comes out and claims the physical relationship didn’t begin until August, doesn’t that blow the theory that they would’nt be having long nightime phone calls if they wewren’t engaging in sex??

Lets see if we can pin this down based on the Paris Protocol:
Very first call on list: 2/7/07 – 10:19 PM – 13 minutes -incoming
It was at NIGHT
It was to her home (Paris claims)
It lasted over ten minutes, much longer then necessary to talk work issues right?
OK, so we know they were doing it prior to Feb 7th 2007, because no single man calls a married woman at night. Its just not done unless she’s doing him.
Does everyone agree they had to be having physical relations prior to this nighttime call? Whats the rule? First night call, third? tenth?

Since you obviously are not reading my posts because you’re too busy thinking of the cute retort you’re going to spin – let me write this next part real slow so even YOU will understand:
I don’t know, nor have I ever claimed to know, whether or not Nikki and Will had a physical relationship. That is not proved by the evidence released so far. Okay? Got it?
Now, with that said, the verified (by Haley and her campaign) evidence, the phone records and the text messages, shows that Haley lied when she claimed she “hardly knew him,” and that the campaign lied when they claimed that nobody had contacted Folks prior to his disclosure. It’s the LIES that bother me, not the act or non-act, although I’m as curious as anyone else as to what drops next.
The final thing that the evidence shows, is that there were phone calls placed between Haley and Folks late at night and into the morning.
Based on the fact that Will Folks has released evidence supporting his side of the alleged affair, and Nikki Haley and her campaign has responded with nothing but transparent lies – I leave it to the common sense of the observer to make judgments here.
Unlike you, I don’t have to make possible, convoluted scenarios up. I just have to cite the evidence and it shows what it shows.

I hope you aren’t a lawyer, because if you are, you should turn your license in immediately. You have no idea what you’re talking about re defamation. Folks couldn’t just “claim satire” and win, and the fact that this case involves a public figure is wholly immaterial. There is no way to negligently or recklessly claim you slept with somebody; you’re either intentionally lying or you’re telling the truth, there’s no in between. It is definitionally actual malice if it’s not true, as Folks himself (rightly) pointed out in an earlier post.
Pops, I seriously think you might be mentally challenged. You will do yourself a favor if you stop drinking the Kool Aid. Trust me, as somebody who initially defended Mark Sanford (and found himself embarrassed having done so), take it from me. The sooner you accept the reality of this, the better.
If she could prove it wasn’t true, Haley would have already gotten a temporary restraining order against Folks. The fact that she hasn’t even tried speaks volumes about Folks’ credibility. It’s pretty simple: people who lie about these things get sued for defamation. People who tell the truth get “ignored until after the election.” Ever see a Kennedy or a Clinton sue a “defamer” alleging adultery? Didn’t think so.

Today we learned of another Will Folks affair….

Ahaaa! A nightime phone call..1130 (isn’t everyone in BED by then). And a call lasting well over 30 minutes, past MIDNIGHT!

Pops – From your last post, I can only conclude that you aren’t reading what I’m posting. I never said any of the evidence released so far proves anyone was sleeping with anyone. You can read and understand, right?
I said the evidence (phone records) proves that Haley lied. She said she “hardly knew”Folks, yet there were hundreds of phone calls, many of them 2-3 hour late night phone calls. That was a ludicrous lie.
I also said that the evidence (text message transcripts) proves that Haley’s campaign (Pearson) lied. He stated flatly that there was no conversation with Folks prior to the publication of his allegation, and there were numerous conversations from well before that. That was also a demonstrable lie.
This is a “he said, she said” situation at this point. Paris has no “theory,” and doesn’t know any more than you do about this, nor have I said in any of my posts, anything about anybody “sleeping with” anybody. That’s your fantasy, Pops, and Folks’ allegation.
Folks has presented evidence that supports (but doesn’t yet prove) his allegation. Haley has yet to present anything convincing that refutes Folks’ claim, and what he’s presented so far in support of it. In fact, she keeps lying and stonewalling, and that supports Folks as well. That’s where it stands.
Can you read and comprehend that, Pops?

On the other hand, Will Folks has been shown to consistently tell blantant lies which can be verified. This includes claiming to not have assaulted a women and then pleading guilty to it in court under oath.
You trying to find hidden needles in a haystack to claim Haley lied is ridiculous given Folks proven repeated lies.

Other things we’re dying to know (that Will probably doesn’t have a complete handle on):
When did Nikki’s hubby find out about the 2-3 hour late-night-into-early-morning phone calls to and from Will’s number? Did he find out about them the same time the rest of us did?
Did the long, lingering late night, early morning phone conversations occur while hubby was out on military service duty?
Jenny Sanford, who has endorsed and supported Nikki Haley, holds the key to her possibility of still winning the primary. If Jenny publicly pulls her support, Nikki is finished as a candidate. So, what is Jenny thinking about all of this so far?
Before she knew about her hubby’s affair, would Jenny have accepted Mark’s explanation for dozens of late-night-into-early-morning phone calls with a single woman who worked for him?
Here’s one you do know. Will, you got anything for us today, or are we waiting until after tonight’s debate?
