   I knew South Carolina politics was in the gutter and political operatives the spawn of satan and I am not naive about how the game is played. Still, I am absolutely DISGUSTED and REPULSED at the depravity of our so called “elected officials” and members of their staffs and those who run campaigns. If this is the best we can do, it is no wonder this state is the ass-crack of the nation, poorly educated, no jobs, impoverished, and the only ones who are doing well are those in the Legislature.

   I hope this incident, however it plays out, riles up South Carolina residents to clear out government out of self-serving, corrupt, unaccountable scum. We must establish TERM LIMITS for all S.C. Constitutional Officers and Legislators.

   Good grief, fellas. If you know something is going to be scandalous why in the Hell do you talk about it in emails and text messages? I might be an ole country boy, but even I know when not to talk about things and how to be humble.

   Think on it Sic, man if you just would have not corresponded and then said to some reporter something self deprecating, like, “have you seen Nikki Haley? You see me? You gotta be crazy to think a woman like that would mess around on her husband with a guy like me. This is silly.”

   That defense has bailed out us ugly guys after messing around with good looking women since the beginning of time.

   As for the Haley campaign, they are dumb as well. Why even correspond about this? Why comment? If I was running that camp, I would have not have had a press conference. I would have ignored you and the Free Times. Again, that takes humility to admit. Most people did not know who you and the Free Times were until this story broke. The beauty of shutting the hell up was lost.

   You both played it wrong. You and the Haley camp should have never discussed it in emails and texts and you both should have laughed it off.

   But, again, that takes humility and the ability to make fun of oneself. That ain’t easy. But, is sure prevents messes like this.

    I truly feel that Nikki is the best candidate for governor. She is leading the polls despite the fact tbat sbe is not a “good ole boy” and that is driving the political force in SC crazy.

    I do not care if she did or did not sleep with Will. What I do care about is what she can do for our state. We are in very troubled times. Can she lead us? Can she make the tough decisions and unite our legislature? That should be what we are focusing on.

    Unfortunately, because she is a political outsider, I fear that we will have another 4 years of the republican establishment doing everything in its power to undermine her.

    I am so sick of the politics in South Carolina (and in the US for that matter). The American people are just fed up and are numb to all the mudslinging.

    I think Nikki is the best of the options available. I wish her well.

    Come on R, this is hardly limited to South Carolina. How many sitting governors have gone over the cliff for the same issue (or something worse) in the last 10 years? Here’s the ones I can remember:

    Illinois – Blagojevich, bribery, 2009 (impeached)

    North Carolina – Easley, still under investigation for abuse of office in 2008

    New Jersey – McGreevey, homosexual affair, 2007 (resigned)

    Illinois – Ryan, illegal sale of gov’t contracts, 2006 (got 6 years in jail)

    Alabama – Siegelman, bribery, 2006 (got 7 years in jail)

    Ohio – Taft, ethics violations, 2005 (plead no contest, fined $4,000, approval dropped to 6%)

    Connecticut – Rowland, fraud 2004 (resigned, got 10 months in jail)

    Louisiana – Edwards, extortion, 2000 (got 10 years in jail)

    If we throw in the big splash sex scandals for elected officials, I could list them forever.

    The question at hand is does sex matter and in this case I think it does. If the allegations are true, I do not think Haley has the character we’re looking for.

    God only knows where we will find a capable man or woman of character willing to put up with this abuse to run for office. We’ve had less than capable men with character (Jimmy Carter), we’ve had highly capable men with little character (Bill Clinton). Where do we find that rare mix of capability and character?

Even in public contentions that are based on technical matters that have tangible and rational evidence for yea or nay, South Carolinians fight it out by competing influence, who has the greater political patron. SC doesn’t need to be riled up, it needs a Renaissance, an Enlightenment. Fat chance.

    All of this is interesting, but what diappoints me the most in reading these texts is the fowl language that is used. Amazing…wasn’t there a time when using such language on the telephone was against the law…maybe my parents just told me that to keep me from using it, but still filthy. If there was an affair, I am sure that it is over and, quite possibly, that her husband already knew and had forgiven her. If that is the case, we should all be done with this!

    The suggestion that electronic evidence substantiating his accusation of affair exists and will be released soon is followed up with the case-closing bombshell of…a rather current, post-revelation string of third-party nonsense between the previously-unknown Folks and an still-currently-unknown handful of reporters and operatives of various campaigns…really, this is the best that can be done? All this proves is that there were at least three people who knew about Folks’ impending admission prior to its taking place.

    In fact, the timing and content of the clearly-redacted string of messages only substantiates that your boss was the one instigating, while feigning ignorance, everything! He spread the rumours, he followed up on them, and he threw others’ names into the mix to create even more drama.

    I don’t know if he was trying to get paid or just satisfying a fantasy of his by attempting to create in other men’s minds the perception that he slept with Haley (aside: and based on previous sexually-fantastic and misogynistic comments published on this site and elsewhere in the past involving your editor and Haley or other attractive-above-average women that have been drudged up by reporters doing actual *investigation* of this story, the motives for your boss’ invention of this story are becoming more tangible), but it’s really quite clear that he has been the instigator of this entire scandal. That these texts are meant as “evidence” of foul play (along with your ominous reference to “THE PICTURE” of your boss between Haley and former Gov. Sanford) only “substantiates” the increasingly-popular view of your Folks’ accusations as 100% grade-A political Bull Shit. We The People are not thinking “OMG WOW IT MUST BE TRUE” when you offer as evidence mud-slinging, contradictory texts towards members of the press and a photo that CLEARLY shows a casual and not even particularly valued relationship on the part of your boss in relation to Ms Haley; we’re thinking more like “Wow, this guy really *is* nothing but a pathetic, tortured liar after all.”

    I don’t really see any foul play, you know…my perception, at this point, is that your boss, plagued by self-oblivious impressions of himself as a man of importance and value (and therefore a man of great desirability, unfortunate physical appearance beside), involved others in his sexual fantasies by informing them of an “affair” with Ms Haley in an effort to shore up his masculine bonafides, and as all panicked self-delusional maniacs do, held on to his accusation for dear life when, in the heat of the political season, his fantasy snowballed into a public scandal.

    I think any of us with a slightly-inquisitive mind knew *something* was up when Folks tried to make us believe that he went public to protect his own marriage…as though his wife would have been devastated with the news that he slept with a woman before they were even married. I think ALL of us who are not 1) the obsequious political devotees of an opponent of Ms Haley’s (or her party or politics in general); 2) family members/devotees of Folks (wait, isn’t that redundant); or 3) delusionally paranoid toward all political figures; have, at this point, given up on any possibility of Folks’ accusations being true (and at this point, I’ve realised that Folks is likely the only blogger on this site, and to further his delusions of importance and value, refers to himself in the third-person to give the impression of underlings in his employ).

    But I guess you’re winning, aren’t you? Nobody knew you on Sunday, and now you’re the centre of the biggest political scandal current to SC politics.

    Tip: go back to keeping your sleazy, borderline-criminally-harassing sexual fantasies with conservative women (like this one, published on this site on 31 Mar 09: “Oh alright we’ll admit it, Ashley Herzog could be doing pretty much anything and it would still be hot.      But I don’t understand how someone who had any sort of relationship with someone would not have some incriminating records easily at hand. I mean — can’t you just dig up your old emails?      The Ace has a nationally known website that is a favorite of very conservative people.

     Several years ago, The Ace interviewed for a job with some of the Sanfraudians. He posted a number of comments asking other posters whether or not he should take the position. The position was with the SC Club for Growth, the Republican Party or some affiliated SC political organization.

     From what I remember, he did not take the job or it was offered to someone else.

     My phone allows you to type an SMS (text) message that contains more than 160 characters. When you send the message, it breaks it up into individual SMS messages and sends them all at once. The recipient receives multiple messages simultaneously. It is kind of annoying because the last part of the message appears first in some instances and if you don’t realize there is a first part to it, it can be confusing.

     I do not agree with WIll’s tactics, I think he should be arrested and left in a straight jacket for 30 days since he didn’t serve a day in jail the last time he beat the hell out of a woman.      I believe it, and I have from the start. No doubt about the fact that Folks has a questionable past, and not a whole lot of supporters, it seems. But from the beginning it seemed to me that Haley has a whole lot more to lose by this story being true than Folks has to gain. Hence, her vehement denial.
     I’m no lawyer, but I’m fairly certain one can’t go around publishing texts that name names without repercussions. I haven’t heard of any lawsuits being filed.
     I also believe Folks has the goods and will produce them. Could dribbling out these texts possibly be giving Haley a chance to own up before the really damning stuff comes out? I doubt he wants to punish his own family any more either.
     Say what you want, but I will never be convinced that a person can be corrupt personally but pristine professionally. It is not two separate things. I don’t care if you’re Mark Sanford or Bill Clinton. Haley doesn’t deserve the honor of being on the ballot if this is true.
     My Dad taught me the truth ALWAYS comes out. It may not be immediate, but it always does. I believe him, and I believe Folks in this case.

     For those of you convinced the messages are fake, are you saying Haley’s CAMPAIGN MANAGER is now in on the deception? Why? Why would he call “fake” text messages that possibly damage his candidate real?

     I agree the message don’t prove anything, affair-wise, but it’s quite a charge to assume that the FITS people just sat down and fabricated a text string. What in their history suggests they would do that anyway? Can someone tell me?

     CNN is calling Will Folks a liar:

     While Pearson and Folks make allusions to the “rumor,” there is nothing in the correspondence proving Folks’ claim that he had an “inappropriate physical relationship” with Haley in 2007.
     Pearson said the text messages are authentic but said he was only working with Folks to prevent “false rumors” from coming to light.
     “This blogger’s overactive imagination has gone into overdrive,” Pearson said in an e-mail to CNN. “South Carolina politics is full of rumors and innuendo, and of course our campaign did everything in our power to prevent false rumors about Nikki from airing out in the media as they now have.

     On one of your cut and paste (or type from scratch?) items you’ve included the Subject line (or part of the Subject line). You didn’t include things from the original subject line such as “RE:” or “FW:”. Including that would have made clear that you are pulling out and isolating just a portion of each of the actual email message. Extracting selected verbage and not showing ALL of the remaining portions of each of the particular email items is a typical way to mislead folks. You need to show things in context!

     If you people hate Will so much, then stop posting and get on with your lives. Obviously you are concerned this may be true or you wouldn’t be staying up to date with FITS news.

     No matter what you might think of Will, I have more respect for someone who tells the truth than one who lies to gain public office. I have no idea who is telling the truth, but whoever it is will be the winner in the long run.

     And, all of you people claiming Will is gay are just trying to divert everyone’s attention from the main issue: Who is telling the truth? I don’t think Will would argue that he has had a sordid past, but that is not the issue here. The issue, people, is that there is a serious allegation and some limited corroborating evidence that a candidate for Governor may have not only cheated on her husband, but believes she can lie her way out of it because of Will’s bad boy reputation. It is like the former prostitute who can’t prove she was raped, because the prosecution attacks her character and convinces the jury that anyone who might have had paid sex would also invite rape.

     People make mistakes and they usually come back to haunt you. Everyone has skeletons, and I would bet most of you casting stones at Will have as many as he does. Put away your venom and wait on the truth. Wishing it away is not going to change the facts.

     Just remember, Will has never claimed to be more than he is to anyone. It is those who have secret lives and claim to be Christians who are the ones we all need to fear.

     Will, put the proof out there and let the chips fall, as was your original intention.

     Will, I’m curious. You say you HAD to come out with this information and an admission because you were pressured to by the media, etc. I’m not buying that….unless they had something else on you. For future reference, here’s how you should have handled this:

     You know the story is going to break, so you sit down with your wife and discuss the matter in private and handle it as a family in private. You let the story break and have no comment. Haley denies everything and has no comment. If someone else has proof and that comes out in the press later, you still have no comment.

     The only thing you HAD to do Will was sit down with your wife and have a talk. So don’t give us this garbage about doing it for your family. The best thing you could have done for your family was sit down and discuss it in private. The worst thing you could have done for your family was to air this out on your blog.

     Why is everyone attacking Will? Wesley Donahue admitted the text messages are accurate.

     COLUMBIA — Wesley Donehue, a Columbia political strategist, said he will not contest the validity of text messages between himself and political blogger Will Folks that appear to refer to an inappropriate relationship between Folks and GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley.

     A text message from Donehue to Folks dated 3:30 p.m. May 21 said: “If you’re calling about Haley, don’t. If I wanted her gone, I would have already done it.”

     A response a minute later from Folks says: “Dude I am just trying to act in a way that will protect my family.”

     This is followed by a 3:36 p.m. message from Donehue: “Your family and Nikkis kids are the ONLY reason I haven’t acted. It sure as (expletive) ain’t the threats.”

     Donehue said he had no further comment, including whether or not he had sought an affidavit, as mentioned in text messages exchanged between Folks and Tim Pearson, Haley’s campaign manager.

     The texts messages prove only one thing: The Haley camp believed that Folks was trying to help them stop FALSE rumors coming from the Barrett camp and the press. The Haley camp didn’t realize until it was too late that Folks was behind the rumor and the leak the whole time.

     ReformSC is barred from running their pro-Haley ads. They and the other Sanford (now Haley) groups (SCRG, Club for Growth, etc) are frustrated. She needs media attention! How can they get their girl elected?? Enter self-described media genius Will Folks. They concoct a scheme with the Haley campaign: Will claims to have had an affair with Haley. She adamantly denies it. He claims to have proof, but never provides it.

     No one believes him, Haley’s press is sympathetic, and she completely dominates the news for the last several weeks before the primary. SC Republicans rally around the embattled candidate and she wins the primary outright, avoiding a runoff.

     There’s no downside for Will. He is already pretty much disliked by everyone. In the fetid swamp that is SC politics, it will be duly and admiringly noted that he knows how to get things done. All of his paid contracts are under the table and unacknowledged anyway, so he’ll continue to get plenty of work in SC. His blog gets national exposure; ReformSC, Club for Growth, SCRG, et al combine their resources to give him a six or seven figure payoff. After all they’ve been spending many millions for eight years trying to push their agenda – what’s a million or so more?

     She’s a public figure, so the bar is set a little lower to show standing, but this seems to be clear cut.

     This is just great fun– watching all the TeaBagger lemmings in denial, even after the Haley campaign and that Barrett operative slug (what’s-his-name) verified that the emails are real. The hypocrisy of the Glenn-Beck-gobbling camp, the majority of whom were calling for Bill Clinton’s head (no pun intended) back in the 90′s (including Marky Mark, voting three times to impeach) is dazzling.

     Not that the TBer’s own the franchise on lemming-ness. Anybody who thinks there’s more than a dime’s worth of difference one political hopeful (or seasoned hack) and the next nowadays- regardless of party affiliation- would need surgery to remove their rose-colored glasses. It’s all about the rhetoric, and whose spin comes out ahead (and who is left standing) at election time. The sex scandals are mainly a by-product of the quest for- and belief that one has achieved- power. And (usually most of all) the money. It’s still the best system of government on the planet, but that may be no more than a sad commentary on the state of the planet nowadays (and what bodes for the future).

     As far as Will Folks, I’ve heard his name before; never been to this site; don’t think he’s any more or less an opportunist than any political hack or hanger-on nowadays, but I have no doubt that he’s telling the truth on this (in some sense, or other). At the end of the day, thanks,

     I know the “stratey” is a slow bleed – and hey – I’m here – so again kudos on the traffic – but do you realize the moment a 3rd party group verified the electronic stamp – you would automatically gain support and legitimacy – and could really milk ($$$$) the slow bleed if Haleys camp refused comment…

     Then – legit outlets would PAY for you to disclose the text messages and emails. I can see MSNBC, CNN; who are dying to get some viewers – pay handsomely for an expose on this affair.

     But alas, you haven’t. Even worse – you are controlling the roll out of info internally (and may I suggest, have your wife or sister or whomever writes here drop the “Founding Editor” meme and just call you Wil or Folks – helps with brand recognition, “FOunding Editor” means nothing) while claiming “CNN, Haley’s campaign manager, etc” said they are real texts.

     Yup they are “real” – though the context is sullied – because again – you just need to have the emails (IIS logs) or your e-stamped text messages verified.

     Trust me – people will read every message to and fro, even the boring stuff.

The statement was made in the texts that Haley would win if this thing was kept under wraps and then it is leaked. Too me that sounds like somebody who wants to improve his image at the expense of another person regardless if it is true or not.If I had an inappropriate relationship with another woman who was not my wife I would do all that I could to protect her from harm even if the relationship was over.      I think that there is a high probability that this whole e-mail dialogue was a manufactured skit by multiple participents representing multiple canidates’s campaigns,who felt threatened by Nikki Haley’s poll numbers. As well, it seems like a politically charged and motivated conspiracy by desperate candidates who will stop at nothing for their own political gain. I wonder how they divided the pay off. Regardless of Nikki Haley’s past experiences one way or the other, we need to look at who she is now, and what she stands for now, as well as what she can do for us as a Governor in the state of South Carolina. Barack Obama admitted he smoked marijuana and was a drug abuser in his earlier life, and he still got elected to be president.
     Bill Clinton, after being revealed in many physical affairs during his Arkansas Governorship not only remained governor, but was elected president of the United States, and as well, recieved oral sex from an intern in the oval room of the White House and lied about it and was not impeached and pardoned a bunch of known criminals and cocaine dealers before he left office. This country ate that bunch of garbage without flinching. Barney Franks is an open homosexual who most likely has multiple physical partners due to the fact that he is not legally married to a man, that I know of, and he still is allowed to hold office. Real funny how people form opinions before they even know whether something is true or not. I’m a conservative, and I know the liberal left would use such tactics without hesitation, but I did not think that GOP candidates and their cronies would stoop so low. Being a Christian, I hate sin, but as well in balance, love the sinner. I have been forgiven for my iniquities by God, and I as well have learned to forgive. Eventually there will be pictures and dirty texts and she could have stopped this a long time ago. She hadn’t told her husband about the “rumor”?      Has anyone noticed that Nikki’s campaign manager seems to be being nice to Folks to try to get as much info from him as possible. Think about the campaign manager’s ordeal. An asshole blogger is saying that a “rumor” (he probably started years ago, by the way) is about to be leaked by a “media” outlet (The Free Times is a liberal piece of shit rag – not a media outlet) and he wants to protect his family (his wife) from it. Does the campaign manager really want to piss this guy off (knowing that he is a braggard blogger who makes up stories)?      By writing this story, Will Folks has demonstrated that he doesn’t hold himself in higher regard than any of the other people he has reported. Will has made his livelihood by helping to keep SC politics clean and transparent. Time and again Will has shed light on corrupt Republicans, Democrats and Independents. True, he airs dirty laundry, but knowing that helps some to keep their noses clean.
     I think it’s commendable that he understands he must also be honest and transparent. The fact that he treats himself the way he does others shows that he is trustworthy and grounded.

     The text messages, if born out, may prove that Will was upfront and not sabotaging Haley’s candidate, that she was his pic.
     That’s the specific credibility call for this issue.
