Liberals Hate Poor People

supermarket

By FITSNews || Unlike the vast majority of female lobbyists at the S.C. State House, our founding editor has never “gone there” with Sue Berzerkowitz of the Appleseed Legal Justice Center.

At least not that he remembers, anyway …

In fact, Berkowitz (that’s her real last name … we just call her “Berzerkowitz” for fun) is one of those rare lobbyists – male or female – that Sic Willie genuinely respects.  For starters, she basically runs the “Republican” controlled Senate Banking Committee, which is saying something considering she’s a flaming liberal whose organization is basically a front for a bunch of greedy trial lawyers.

So props …

Anyway, as one of the smartest, most influential lobbyists at the S.C. State House, Berkowitz has carefully cultivated her image as a “champion of the downtrodden.”  In fact, she’s widely known as the “poor people’s” lobbyist, even though the special interests that are filling her coffers are decidedly “north of poor.”  That’s why we were a bit surprised to see Berkowitz going on the record with La Socialista – a.k.a. The (Columbia S.C.) State newspaper – earlier this week in support of a $375 million annual tax hike that will hit poor people the hardest.

From La Socialista‘s story:

Appleseed director Sue Berkowitz said the Legislature should consider repealing some of (South Carolina’s) $2.7 billion in sales-tax exemptions, including the approximately $375 million exempted from grocery sales.

“It probably makes economic sense to put the tax back on food,” Berkowitz said.

Ummm … we’re guessing that if you polled most poor people out there they would argue that adding the sales tax to food does NOT make economic sense.  Not even a little bit.

In fact, WTF Sue Berkowitz?  Are you running the “Republican” Senate Finance Committee now, too?

Needless to say, we opposed adding the sales tax to food items because it would force us (and you) to give more money to the government each year – or at least that’s what our personal shopper tells us.  Plus, we’re pretty sure that this bill would cost rich people like us money, too, and that’s obviously not good.

For goodness sake! Yo, politicos! Listen up!

There actually are TWO ways to deal with revenue shortfalls. You know the first way too, TOO well, but you want to know what the other way is?

    CUT SPENDING!!

[Whiny liberal voice] But if we don’t spend the money, we’ll alienate our constituents and we won’t get re-elected.[/whine]

Oh, Yeah? Watch what happens this November and see if your heads stop spinning by Christmas.

So if liberals hate poor people…

Is it a stretch to assume Bauer is a liberal?

@Ynotfirst I’m no fan of politicians, but our Senators and Representatives only get paid $10,400 in salary for their work. Now, that is not to say that they don’t have plenty of money coming in from other sources, but that is what they get paid for their service.

Sue Bezerkowitz is an idiot. Why anyone would want that washed-up hippie working for them, I do not know.

If they are going to reinstate the sales tax on food how about eliminating all the sale tax exemptions. Why jerk around with just $375 million when the full $2.7 can be collected. If our elected officials are planing to f**ck over the people of this state why are they being such penny-anti fools and f**k us over big time. To those idiots who voted to reinstate the sales tax on food, STFU.

I guess I’m waiting for those liberals who dominate the state house to pass this tax. Oh wait…

Anyway, I am baffled that Appleseed would suggest this course of action. Then again, since no one is holding their breath for comprehensive tax reform, any suggestion will be taken seriously. Me, I just read Chester Himes’s _Rage In Harlem_ and loved the scam where they “raise” ten-dollar bills into C-notes. Maybe that will be the next proposal in the Senate?

The people who voted for taxes on food are probably on food stamps and WIC.

The answer to our budget problem is simple,”Drill baby drill.” Get those off shore oil wells in place and we want have any budget problems. We need some of that black gold on our beaches.

Charles, lets see, drill offshore and you risk a spill that fouls a beach. So lets don’t drill. Since on occasion an airplane crashes and people die, then lets ground all planes. Then we have the problem with those pesky autos. People get killed in those also. Lets park all those. What else can we add to the list?

Mike, good point. People on food stamps have never had to pay sales tax on food as that would just mean government was paying the tax to themselves.
