Roethlisberger Suspended, Could Be Traded

roethlisberger suspended

By FITSNews || The National Football League suspended Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the first six games of the 2010 season based on its investigation of an alleged sexual assault that took place in Milledgeville, Georgia earlier this year.

Last week, Georgia officials announced that they were not filing criminal charges against the two-time Super Bowl champion, although that investigation painted an unflattering portrait of the embattled quarterback, who is also facing a civil suit from a 2008 incident in which he allegedly raped a Nevada casino worker at Lake Tahoe.

“You are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league or the expectations of our fans,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to Roethlisberger.

“In your six years in the NFL, you have first thrilled and now disappointed a great many people,” Goodell’s letter continued. “I urge you to take full advantage of this opportunity to get your life and career back on track.”

Meanwhile, ESPN is reporting that the Steelers are looking to trade “Big Ben” assuming they can get a Top 10 pick for him in the upcoming NFL draft.

Assuming Roethlisberger completes a league-administered evaluation prior to training camp, he will be permitted to participate in preseason drills and could have his suspension reduced to four games.
