By FITSNews || As a “payback” to pro-life Democrats who represented his margin of victory on Sunday’s big socialized medicine vote, President Barack Obama on Wednesday quietly signed an executive order affirming his administration’s commitment to an existing federal ban on taxpayer-funded abortions.
Amazing, isn’t it?
In order to pull off the greatest government power grab in more than four decades, all that Obama had to do was agree not to break the law. Specifically, Obama’s order states that his $2.5 trillion boondoggle “maintains current Hyde Amendment restrictions governing abortion policy.”
Passed in 1976 – three years after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision – the Hyde Amendment is not a law, but a provision that is annually attached to appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Obama agreed to sign the order four days ago when it became clear that he needed a small group of pro-life Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Michigan) in order to pass his bill, which cleared the House by a narrow 219-212 margin.
