Susan Audé: What She Said

By FITSNews || In the interest of full disclosure, our founding editor (Sic Willie) has had a crush on former WIS TV anchor Susan Audé pretty much ever since he was born.

The first full-time female anchor in the Columbia, S.C. market, Susan worked for WIS from 1978-2006 – a remarkable 27-year stretch that included Hurricane Hugo, presidential and papal visits and, of course, Sic Willie’s formative years growing up in Northeast Columbia. In fact, it’s entirely reasonable to assume that Sic’s remarkably successful run of the Palmetto State’s news babe talent during the early 2000′s was inspired by this two-time regional Emmy winner.

Talk about a legacy …

Wait … why are we telling you all of this?

Well, as of last Thursday, Susan Audé is back.  That’s right … the long-reigning queen of South Carolina’s MSM is planting her flag in the “new media,” and guess what … she’s pretty good at it.

Here’s an excerpt from the latest entry on Audé’s new site, Sass Today:

President Barack Obama has said passing health care is a “Thelma and Louise” moment. So I guess that means we’re all going over the cliff as Gina Davis and Susan Sarandon did in the movie? Maybe so. Americans are getting increasingly used to Big Government taking care of all their ills but when it comes to a government takeover of the entire health care system at least the American people are stopping, pausing, asking themselves: “Do we really want government to get this big? Do we really want our children, and children’s children, and children’s children’s children’s children … (could go on and on) to be saddled with inconceivable debt?” And do we want Big Government, which can’t run any solvent program, to be in the hospital room with us when decisions are being made about whether we’re allowed certain procedures, that involve, oh… things like whether we live or die?

The latest Rasmussen poll indicates Americans get it, God bless ‘em. We care not just about our immediate, personal health care and its costs but about the long-term implications for the nation as a whole. 57% of voters believe that passage of the legislation would hurt the economy. Only 25% believe it would help. And 81% of the American people, God bless ‘em, say it’s likely the plan will end up costing more than projected. Wonder where they get that idea? Only 10% say the official numbers are likely to be on target.

And, and, OMG! Is there any wonder the American people don’t trust Big G to do the right thing by them when it comes to health care when Nancy Pelosi says this week (“I kid you not” as we liked to say in high school, a phrase that could aptly preface just about everything the Democrats are doing in Washington and that I think we should revive in popularity); so anyway, Madam Speaker’s quote (I kid you not!) was, “…we have to pass our bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy.” I kid you…sorry, nevermind, you get my point.

Not bad, not bad … (to read the rest of the article, click here).

Obviously we’re pretty stand-offish when it comes to competition in our little new media fish pond, but the Palmetto political blogosphere has been desperate for a strong female presence ever since Laurin Manning shut down her blog (editor’s note: frowny face). Whether Susan can fill that void remains to be seen, but she’s off to a good start … and we look forward to the opportunity to feature more of her posts in the future.

In fact, Sic has been in communication with the lovely Miss Audé (who is sporting some stunning blond curls these days, incidentally) in an effort to get FITS an exclusive interview/ photo shoot with her.

Stay tuned …

Dare I suggest that Ms. Fisher is receiving Medicare (through her disability). If you read her blog she complains about certain procedures not covered by medicare; if you qualify for disability you get medicare even if below age 65. So she is the beneficiary of single payer government care–but for others–too bad.

Man, WIS could use her now! It pains me to see what a piece of crap that station is now.

I agree James. Due to her existing injury, there is no way a she could get affordable private health care. She likely receives SSDI and Medicare, but yet wants to tell everyone else why this is bad etc. Typical and hypocritical

Thanks to SIC, James, and Checking. I’ve gone to her blog and posed the question of how she gets her insurance, and challenged her apparently stunning hypocrisy.

It’ll be interesting to see how she responds,if she does.

I had the great pleasure of working with Susan at WIS from 1984 to 1986 when I was weekend sports anchor. What a wonderful lady … and I wish her well!

WIS needs Susan Aude and David Stanton back so badly. Those kids are so nice and earnest and energetic, but not very seasoned. Now, Jack needs to lay off the seasoning. That boy needs to attend more stump meetings where they serve real bar-be-que.

That’s right James. She is entitled to it. Just as I am entitled to free health care because my husband is defending our freedom in a combat zone. So either join the military or be a spouse of a deployed soldier, or become a paraplegic, and you will be entitled too. Otherwise stop your fucking whining. The difference is, asshole, we have already sacrificed. What have you done?

I’ve known Susan up close and personal very well for 20-25 yrs. Trust me, she is the real deal. She is the most giving, compassionate AND passionate (about her beliefs) person you will ever meet. There is NOTHING hypocritcal about her. Now Susan, I think you must do a photo shoot with Sic:)

WIS really needs her back. They suck big time with her and Stanton gone. I grew up with WIS but they just plain suck now. I can’t stand to watch them-just a shadow of their former selves.

She makes a very good point. Why are we allowing our elected leaders to pass a monstrously expensive gigantic government program when we cant even look at the language in the bill first?
This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. Both sides are voting on bills in the dark and really screwing us over and we don’t even get kissed.

When Stanton left, I quit watching completely. Jack Kuenzie is the only real journalist they have left.

Wow, Catherine. I don’t know what Susan’s health care arrangements are and I wouldn’t object to any government help she gets, but what in the world about paraplegia would cause a person to be more “entitled” to free health care than scores of other conditions that are expensive and disabling? How about brain tumors and pancreatic cancer and heart disease and mental disabilities that go undiagnosed and untreated because people can’t afford health care and don’t qualify for help?

Good for Susan…..I agree with her completely. Refreshing to see a former media member with some common sense. There are ways to reform healthcare – however, it’s a shame the Pres and his socialist minions are going about it the way they are.

Yes, WIS is a shadow of what it used to be and that’s primarily because they have no ad revenue to speak of. They can’t pay the talent they used to have. It’s all a bunch of (liberal) skulls full of mush straight out of J-school working their first jobs.

People are getting their news from many other places now. When I watch Sunrise, during any random 30 minutes now, it’s 1) commercials, 2) 3 weather reports 2) commercials, 3) maybe a news story and 4) commercials.

Way to go Susan. WIS is no longer the station it was. Kids do need to learn, but why all so many at one time? Money money money…..
Most of them need to be on USC station or such.
