By FITSNews || Former (and future) presidential candidate Mitt Romney has endorsed S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley’s campaign for governor of South Carolina, the fourth in a string of totally non-surprising gubernatorial endorsements based entirely on who the various Palmetto State candidates supported in the 2008 presidential primary.
Seriously, people … let’s see if anyone can spot the pattern.
S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster endorsed John McCain for president in 2008 – and then received McCain’s endorsement of his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
S.C. Lt. Governor Andre Bauer endorsed Mike Huckabee for president in 2008 – and then received Huckabee’s endorsement of his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett endorsed Sen. Fred Thompson for president in 2008 – and then received Thompson’s endorsement of his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
Now we have Haley – a Romney supporter in 2008 – receiving his endorsement for her 2010 gubernatorial bid.
Wait … is this one of those SAT questions? What happened to “one of these things is not like the other?”
Unfortunately, S.C. politics really is this predictable.
“Ann and I got to know Nikki Haley during my campaign for president and came away enormously impressed with her as a person of character and as the spokesperson for a new generation of leadership for South Carolina,” a press release from Romney’s Free and Strong America PAC reads. “She has a proven conservative record of fighting wasteful spending and advocating for smaller, more efficient government. I’m honored to call her my friend and prouder still to endorse her campaign for governor.”
Romney’s PAC also sent Haley a $3,500 contribution, and the former Massachusetts governor said he would appear with her at an April 1 event in South Carolina.
Hmmm … Romney + April Fool’s Day … how fitting.

Romney Endorses Haley

Agreed. I prefer the guy you label a Bible-thumper myself. Fairtax, anti-bailout, pro-life, pro-gun, only moderately hawkish-that describes Huckabee and that’s why I like him. I do plan on voting for Haley though so I’ll probably make to the event. Huckabee’s two picks in this state are awful but he’s made some better endorsements nationwide. You can check it out on HuckPAC, he endorsed Mike Pence and some Pence-like new comers.

YAWN!

Where is Jim DeMint in all this? He’s campaigning in Florida, but can’t weigh in on his home state? I would imagine he has an opinion in this race.
Come on Senator. Show some testicular fortitude and endorse a candidate.

Demint secretly likes Barrett but that would be seen as a betrayal of his conversative values. DeMint is a Christian ahead of being a conservative and Barrett is a genuine believer. Haley is the candidate most like DeMint but he can forgive a bailout vote. Haley supported initially forced HPV vaccinations, she ended up not voting for it though. She also voted for some weaking amendments on pro-life bills. DeMint doesn’t think you should have sex before you are married so HPV shots he is no fan of. Most DeMint backers though seem to support Haley, establishment repubs McMaster, nobody supports the other two but Bauer may edge out Haley for second in Repub primary. I’m voting for Nikki and you should too. Forgive the stupid things.

As far as I know, DeMint has only endorsed Brent Nelsen among state wide candidates.
By Ynotfirst March 16, 2010 at 7:51 pm
DeMint says he only does ” national business” things now. He forgot South Carolina.
Who gives a rat’s *ss what Mitt Romney thinks>?
For that matter who cares what Huckabee or “the terminator” or anyone else from outside this state thinks.
As far as I concerned…. I will be writing in a ” good person” for Governor because none are running.
By Matt March 16, 2010 at 9:09 pm
DeMint is only endorsing in Senate primaries it looks like. After all, his group is called the “SENATE Conservatives Fund”.
Besides, it’s not customary for U.S. Senators to endorse candidates in contested Governor’s primaries in their home states. Like I don’t think Issacson or Chambliss have endorsed in Georgia, or Shelby or Sessions in Alabama. And on and on.

Lying is not a “stupid thing” in my book. In other words, don’t trivialize
dishonesty and lack of character. She is another Sanford and would not be able to get a thing done with the General Assembly.

Haley the poster child for amnesIa…..

I could beat Nikki Haley in a race. Nobody knows her. Romney should have stayed out of this. You don’t hitch yer wagon to a losing horse. Anyway, I’ll take Barrett over all of them. The bank bailout vote was not what i would have done, but I didn’t have VP Cheney telling me that the banks will fail if we don’t do something. That’s pretty compelling.

Let’s see: the Mormon endorsed the Hindu? Yeah, that’ll work.
By No Name March 17, 2010 at 12:14 pm
Romney is trouble for the GOP but he has lots of money and the Mormon army all convinced he is the “White Horse” savior.
As for Nikki taking the endorsement ….she is proving slicker than I thought and thus looks more and more like the “Argentine” everyday.
Upstaters are desperate to cast Gresham as the Upstate hero that ensures that the Upstate has a strong voice again in Columbia.
The problem with this tribble is that the Governors office is very weak and can only get issues adressed through the real State Gov ….Leatherman …..and or the Fed Proxy …..Governor Graham.
Someone stated above that it was not Gresham’s fault as it was Cheney that was telling him all the banks would fail…..in Paulsens book…the crook takes delight in describing the scene at the White House when Bush, the Banksters, Barney and Obama, rolled the economically senile McCain to the great demise of all of us.
Cheney had his lie working with the great Military Industrial Complex build up…. so he just kept quiet…..all of this was just a big excuse to bail out the Wall Street idiots who beleived the the quants had invented a profit invention scheme that was fool proof.
I can accept that Gresham was just not sophisicated enough to grasp this…so I excuse it….. but still do not see him in Columbia….I expected more from Bob Inglis….no I actually demand more from Bob …who I think is a deep enough thinker and experienced to sense what was going on.
Bob called the Bush surge what it was…. a huge pay off fraud that to this day is not understood and was not what the MIC claims.
In the beginning of the anti-incumbent Federal push …both get tossed.
Until the Columbia mafia is exposed and changes it’s stripes ….because Lindsey can not pump enough Obama pay off money into the State to save us….it really does not matter who is down there….but Henry seems the most likely to surprise the mafia once they let him in.
Haley ….unfortunately ….much as the unanticpated Fed revolusion has killed Inglis and Barrett ….Mark’s roving penis and his sexual needs have caused the Reform movement to be cast suspect and a women is too suspect at a time of great fear.
Sorry …..but maybe Romney can take you on as a wife or something for his personal planet.

This is just a way to get more attention for the campaign.
She needs the recognition so this is a plus for her statewide (as well as providing an excuse for more of the usual lies and usual idiotic attacks by the usual suspects on this forum).
By bill March 17, 2010 at 4:32 pm
she’s not a hindu, she’s a sikh.
