By FITSNews || In case you missed our founding editor’s latest spleen-venting regarding the ongoing mediocrity of the University of South Carolina football program, it got pretty hot.
Sic’s pissed, people … and he’s not the only one.
Year six of the Steve Spurrier era is upon us, and the “Old Ball Sac” … err, “Coach” has produced precisely zero national championships, zero SEC championships and zero SEC East titles. His teams have also folded like cheap suits down the stretch, going a combined 2-14 over the last three seasons in games played after October 15.
Since arriving in Columbia, Spurrier has managed an 18-22 record against SEC opponents, a 2-3 mark against arch-rival Clemson and a 1-3 bowl record, including January’s humiliating Pizza Bowl loss in Birmingham to Connecticut.
Yes, Connecticut … the basketball school.
Anyway, in typical USC fashion, Spurrier has been rewarded for this performance with … wait for it … a contract extension.
Must be nice, huh?
Anyway, some have claimed that we’re too hard on Spurrier – and too hard on the University in general. We disagree. We just don’t suck up to the institution like the rest of the state’s media establishment.
Also, what’s wrong with holding people accountable for their performance, particularly when we’re paying them millions of taxpayer dollars?
In fact, tolerating mediocrity is precisely what has South Carolina – the football team, the University and the state – sucking wind.
So, in keeping with our philosophy of administering tough love – a.k.a. very, very direct encouragement – in an effort to turn things around, we’re unveiling our official slogan for the 2010 football season (and beyond).
What is it?
Like it?
It’s so simple, isn’t it?
Seriously, USC … don’t talk to us about your recruiting successes, your expensive, state-of-the-art facilities, a bunch of “down ballot” coaching changes or “next year” … just win f*cking games.
Come on, Gamecock fans – who’s with us?
Seriously, don’t be sheep … don’t buy into this University brainwashing crap that it’s somehow disloyal to demand a little bit more from your historically under-performing football team.
Stop settling for mediocrity … and start telling these worthless “athleticrats” that if they want any more of your money (tax dollars or otherwise) then they’re going to need to win f*cking games.
Also, in case you haven’t noticed by now, we’ve put our new slogan on T-shirts, hats and all other sorts of promotional items in our online storefront.
For real … you can get them in garnet, black or white.
And while we have no idea what the official slogan for USC’s 2010 football team will be (prolly something gay like “Unfinished Business” or “The Garnet Way”), we think that real South Carolina fans – fans who actually want to see their team succeed for a change – will be with us.
It’s simple …

What is even more amazing is both Spurrier and Horn were both awarded contract extensions! Spurrier was granted a 1 year extension and Horn six. These extensions were granted before their respectives seasons were concluded. Yet somehow though our brilliant AD refuses to grant a simple 1 year extension to our baseball coach. A coach who consistently wins and goes to the NCAA. Why is that AD Hyman?

honestly, you seriously expect that carolina is gonna win the national championship in football(or even ten games a year) playing against florida, georgia, and tennessee every year while throwing in at least an lsu, alabama, or auburn alternating? thats at least 4 losses every year unless we play perfect football and dont get screwed by the refs. and playing tennessee arkansas, florida and clemson the last four games in a row every year? we shouldnt even have beaten kentucky or vandy this year (although we blew the away games at georgia and arkansas which we could have won.) as for basketball, it really doesnt matter what we do. last year we won 21 games, swept kentucky, tied for the sec east title and didnt even make the ncaa tourney (the only time EVER an sec team had won 10 regular season sec games and not made the ncaas. if kentucky had been 10-6 in the sec last year, you think they would have made the ncaas?) this year horn loses his two starting forwards and still has carolina’s first ever win against a no.1 ranked team, with what? one good player and thats it. now your solution is to get worse coaches and pay them less, but you think that will win games? we lost to florida by ten on a fluke interception by a defensive tackle and played at alabama closer than their game in the national championship. maybe youre nostalgic for the days of sparky woods? i think we beat tennessee with him and only lost 14-9 at florida during one of his seasons. and why is it that every time we get a new basketball coach, his former team always goes the ncaas (horn-wku, odom- wake, even steve newton’s muray state made the ncaas after he was hired at usc)while we go nowhere or to the nit?

I have a simple question: How many times can a weight room be “renovated”? Seems like every other year Hyman and Co. tout Carolina’s weight room improvements, and all the money spent to upgrade it. And why, with such a state-of-the-art, super-fantastical weight room, does the Gamecocks’ O-line get pushed around like a bunch of fairies every season??? And all this talk about the new Academic Center, “The Dodie”, and how its gonna be such a boon to recruiting. First of all, recruiting hasn’t been the problem. Recent classes have been highly-regarded…just nothing to show for it. And secondly, “The Dodie” is even GAY-ER than when the dufus AD Hyman had the Williams-Brice PA blare that intimidating War Anthem “Carolina Girls” at the end of the third quarter. What next, have Johnny Weir act as Guest Mascot when UGA comes to town next September?!?
Why does the University of South Carolina’s Department of Athletics get it SO Wrong, SO Often??? LOSERVILLE, USA!!!!
