USC Football: Still Waiting, Waiting, Waiting

spurrier mad

By FITSNews || As one of the thousands of brain-dead University of South Carolina fans who made the trip to Birmingham, Alabama for the Pizza Company Whose Name We Shall No Longer Speak (dot com) Bowl, it’s become extremely difficult to get excited about spring football in year six (omg has it been that long?!?!?!) of the Steve Spurrier era.

We’re pissed off, people. And rightly so.

We’re pissed off at the four consecutive end-of-season collapses, a 1-3 bowl record, the ongoing futility against Georgia, Florida and Tennessee, and to be perfectly honest the fact that our tender ass cheeks have yet to unfreeze from those steel seats at Legion Field. You know … the friggin’ ghettofied stadium where Connecticut humbled us.  After the world’s worst radio announcer talked all sorts of trash to them.

Anyway, if it were up to us, Spurrier would have been fired two seasons ago (or “14-12, 7-9 SEC” ago, for those of you who count wins and losses), which is to say we’re not having any of his “so so sorry” crap for capping off another rotten season with a humiliating loss to a basketball school … in football.

Barely two months removed from the debacle in Birmingham, however, all has been forgiven over at the Serial Apologist Times – a.k.a. La Socialista, a.k.a. The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper – where so much as thinking critical thoughts about the University (let alone printing them) is still frowned upon.

From La SAT‘s “Spring Preview …”

Steve Spurrier can stop apologizing.

The South Carolina football coach, who said he was sorry several times this offseason for his team’s showing in a 20-7 loss to Connecticut in the Papajohns.com Bowl, will turn the page on the 2009 season Thursday when the Gamecocks begin spring practice.

With 15 starters returning and question marks surrounding several of the SEC East’s top teams, many analysts think 2010 could be Spurrier’s best chance to contend for a conference title.

Sheesh, guys.

Can we get a pillow to make those knees a little more comfortable?

Sure, sure, sure … we get it. Hope springs eternal.

Sort of like it did prior to the 2009 season, when Spurrier basically threw his (old) coaching staff under the bus for the Lamecocks’ pathetic finish from the year before … which followed a pathetic finish the year before that … and before that …

But hey … “contend for a conference title,” right? Right?

And hey … we’ve got a new offensive line coach this year, right? Right?

Fools …

Oh and by the way, f*ck Papa John’s … if you’re looking for real pizza, check out Pizza Man at the corner of Rosewood and Woodrow streets in downtown Columbia, S.C.

In fact, word to the wise for “Todd’s Taste of the Town” assuming the Shamecocks actually warrant an ESPN appearance this season.
