Think Globally, Hoop Locally … With A Flat Ball?

By FITSNews || You might get the impression from some of our coverage here at FITS that we hate environmentalists.

That’s not true.  Not even remotely.

We’re all about “going green” around here – we’re just against socialized eco-facism.

In fact, wherever possible we factor environmental considerations into our purchases (a.k.a. the right way to save the planet).

For example, the other day at our local Target store, our founding editor purchased a “Rebound” basketball (made by Wilson) to replace his outdated Spalding NBA “Elevation” ball.

Billed as the world’s first “green” basketball, the “Rebound” is made from recycled materials – or at least 40 percent of its surface is.  And according to the Chicago-based sporting goods company, “every 70 Rebound basketballs Wilson produces is the equivalent of one less tire ending up in a landfill.”

“The Rebound will afford young players the chance to work on their game in an environmentally friendly way,” a company manager said in unveiling the basketball two years ago. “Wilson is proud to be a leader in moving towards a greener, more sustainable planet.”

Uh-huh …

Again, that’s great … and exactly why we bought the ball in the first place.

Here’s the only problem … the particular “Rebound” ball that we purchased is either a) auditioning for the role of the Death Star in an upcoming Star Wars claymation feature or b) not holding its air very well.

“Think Globally, Hoop Locally?”

We’d love to … but we have to pump this damn thing fifty times just to get five minutes of “inflated play” out of it, which any “local hoopster” will tell you is not a good ratio.

Guess it’s back to eco-unfriendly balls …
