By FITSNews || With the men’s ice hockey gold medal match and woman’s figure skating finale yet to be held, NBC is already enjoying substantially improved Olympic TV ratings, boasting a 14.7 average Nielsen rating during its prime time coverage of the XXI Winter Olympiad in Vancouver.
That’s nearly 27 million viewers – a 21 percent increase from the ratings earned by the network at the 2006 Games in Turin.
Also, if Team USA wins its semifinal hockey match Friday against Finland, those numbers will soar even higher.
America hasn’t won gold in ice hockey since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” in Lake Placid, New York.
Well the men, haven’t – the U.S. women’s hockey team won gold in 1998.
With two competitive hockey squads, a gold-medal winning snowboarder (Shaun White) and speed skater (Apolo Ohno), and a pair of hotties (Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso) and a gold-medal winning heartthrob (Bode Miller) on the ski slopes, there’s been no shortage of star power at the Vancouver Games.
Here at FITS, we’ve been fortunate to have the lovely Polly Sanders keeping us up to speed on the latest … (thanks Polls!)
