By FITSNews || The latest (and let’s hope final) chapter in the Mark and Jenny Sanford saga will unfold in a Charleston County (S.C.) courtroom Friday morning – on live television.
S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford – in accordance with state law – must testify in open court as she seeks to finalize her divorce from her philandering husband, S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford. Specifically, Mrs. Sanford must provide the court with reasons why she is seeking to end the couple’s 20-year marriage, as well as residency information and documentation of the length of their separation.
Gov. Sanford is not required to be at the hearing, although an affidavit must be filed on his behalf.
Needless to say, the reasons behind the divorce petition are patently obvious to the millions of Americans who have followed the Sanford saga since last June, when the governor mysteriously disappeared from the state following the 2009 legislative session and lied to the public about his whereabouts.
He returned several days later and admitted his infidelity in a bizarre, rambling press conference at the State Capitol building in Columbia, S.C. Days later, the governor referred to his Latin lover, Maria Belen Chapur, as his soul mate in a disastrous AP interview.
The affair almost cost Sanford his job – as subsequent investigations into his travel practices revealed a host of ethical abuses. The governor was spared impeachment, however, as political calculations by the elected officials seeking to replace him took precedence over the substance of the charges against him.
Also, Sanford pledged to “walk humbly” with Republican leaders in the S.C. General Assembly, who have long been his ideological opponents – prompting speculation regarding a backroom deal between the governor and his GOP antagonists.
For her part, Mrs. Sanford publicly exited the Governor’s Mansion last August (with the couple’s four children) after attempts at reconciling her the marriage proved fruitless. She then filed for divorce last December, which the governor has declined to contest.
That makes Friday’s hearing in court a formality.
Earlier this month, Mrs. Sanford’s book Staying True was released – and she embarked on a media blitz in support of the book.
While Sanford’s once-stratospheric approval ratings have nose-dived since his scandal, a poll released earlier this week shows that Mrs. Sanford is viewed favorably by nearly 55 percent of South Carolinians.
Friday’s hearing will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Stay tuned for broadcast information …

Sweet naïve BIN …
It is for the sake of “all children” that the public has an obligation to monitor what goes on in a place like that. It may or may not be hard on the Sanford children but they are not under any particular legal grant of exclusivity.

Everyone else has not dropped this issue.

Any reason Miss. Sanfraud would have these documents sealed?????????
By joebo February 26, 2010 at 9:14 am
It’s a bunch of build up over nothing. The hearing will be routine and perfuctory. Nothing new will be learned. Just have to go through the motions to get the judge to approve an uncontested divorce.
At least it’s one more step towards hopefully ridding ourselves of these two who have long since worn out their welcome in S.C. Just get divorvced, shut up, and go away, please!

Everything but the Final Order granting the divorce will be sealed by the Court. We are talking about the lives of minors, and I don’t mean the parents.
By Pamela February 26, 2010 at 10:21 am
Court TV will being carrying it live, and will take comments from its viewers, should be interesting. (NOT) Now if the people of South Carolina could get an uncontested divorce from Sanford all would be well.

So, Jenny wants information kept secret, as this additional information would be damaging to the boys. Well, yeah. So wonder why she wrote the book, did the magazine article, talked with the press many times? What about going off on the book signing tour? What did the boys say about that. She said in court that what she wrote in the book was known to the boys. Jeez, that’s a lot of sleezy information she says they knew. Who told them. It was not anything we heard from all the media coverage. Who told them? Oh, and she is staying in SC. Can’t she find something good to do somewhere else?

Exactly Fits!!!!! Like the Phish song “Birds of a Feather are Flocking Together”
By jeffy February 26, 2010 at 2:21 pm
maybe she can go on Judge Judy and re-enact for everyone. Or….more classy, she could portray herself on Days of our Lives.
By Phan February 26, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Toyota:
Trey says no.
The Phish song is simply “Birds of a Feather.” The refrain goes:
“Birds of a feather are flocking outside.”
Trey says yes, however, this evening in Charlotte, with Fat Tony on the bass and Russ on the throne.
Jenny turned me down when I offered her a ticket for tonight. She’s apparently more of a Panic fan.
