Entire SC First District Running For SC First District

Not in South Carolina, anyway … they’re all running for Congress!

South Carolina’s First Congressional District now has a whopping thirteen candidates vying to represent it, and we’re still more than a month away from the filing deadline!

Indeed, the race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Henry Brown (RINO-Hanahan) is starting to resemble the infamous traffic jam on Interstate 26 during the Hurricane Floyd evacuation a decade ago.

A ninth Republican candidate, Mount Pleasant town councilman Ken Glasson – hopped into the race on Wednesday, joining S.C. Rep. Tim Scott, military mom Katherine Jenerette, “fortunate sons” Paul Thurmond and Carroll A. “Tumpy” Campbell, Isle of Palms Councilman Ryan Buckhannon, former Brown staffer Stovall Witte, Mount Pleasant businessman Mark Lutz and lawyer Larry Kobrovsky.

On the Democratic side there are currently three candidates: Charleston-area pilot Robert Burton, Georgetown businessman Robert Dobbs and another retired accountant from Horry County, Dick Withington.

Jimmy Wood, an U.S. Air Force reservist, is also expected to run as an independent.

As far as we know, Scott and Jenerette are the best two candidates – with Scott standing out because he can actually point to a record of fiscal conservatism.

Of course the way this race is going there could be another dozen candidates by the time the filing deadline arrives!

Seriously, it’s like the whole friggin’ district is running …

We may have a Thurmond and a Campbell in the race. But, neither of those families mean much down here. How are we going to have an election without a Ravenel or a Limehouse. My pick would be former S.C. Rep. Sidi Limehouse. Sidi is as honest as a S.C. Republican comes, but I am not sure that he is eligible given that pesky Federal marijuana smuggling conviction from the 70s. http://www.charlestonmag.com/charleston_magazine/feature/sidi_limehouse

Mr Folks, if you think Katherine Jenerette is a viable candidate for this seat, then you need to share whatever it is you just picked up at Taylor/Two Notch. Is she paying you? Sleeping with you? Paying you to sleep with her?

She is a serial candidate, like Joe Azar. A joke. But you keep pushing her candidacy. There are enough skeletons in her closet to fill a graveyard. Yet you continue to trumpet her candidacy. You are a bigger political whore than Kelly Payne.

Thanks Will, but i never considered that advocating hiring quotas as in the article below was being fiscal conservative. LOL. Scott is no fiscal conservative.

Charleston County makes progress with minority pay
    Published on 11/12/05
    BY robert behre
    The Post and Courier
A few weeks ago, Charleston County Council agreed to set a goal to increase the number of minority and female employees who make more than $50,000. This week, members learned that the county already met the 10 percent mark.
The county also has made progress in using minority vendors during the past nine months and already has surpassed council’s goal of giving such firms 10 percent of the county’s discretionary spending.
Still, the news didn’t seem to satisfy some council members who had pushed for the goal. Instead, they grilled the county staff on a decision to clarify the qualifications for some jobs — a line of questioning that caused Council Chairman Leon Stavrinakis to caution them against micromanaging.
“You’ve got to trust your staff. They’re trained. They need to be able to do their job,” Stavrinakis said.
His comments appeared to be directed toward Councilmen Henry Darby and Teddie Pryor, who questioned the personnel director’s decision to clarify what experience is needed for what position. “It tells me you’re trying to dilute the gains we’ve made,” Darby said.
There have been some gains made. On Jan. 1, the county had 15 minority and 58 female employees making more than $50,000, representing 11 percent and 32 percent, respectively, of the entire county workforce earning at least that amount. Nine months later, those numbers had risen to 25 minorities and 74 women, easily surpassing council’s stated goal of having 10 percent of all employees making more than $50,000 be minorities or women.
On the purchasing side, the county spent 8.5 percent of its money with minority-owned firms last year, but that figure has risen to 12 percent during the first nine months of 2005. The county’s spending with female-owned firms, however, slipped from 1.5 percent last year to 0.08 percent so far this year.
“There’s some good news in it,” Councilman Tim Scott said, “(but) we’ve got to move that number up.”
Pryor said if the hiring figures include the Sheriff’s Office and employees of other elected officials, then the figures are misleading because they don’t reflect hiring decisions made under County Administrator Roland Windham’s watch.
The debate about the personnel job descriptions — and whether the county was narrowing its potential applicant pools — drowned out Stavrinakis’ suggestion that the county consider raising its goals
if they’ve already been met. At the urging of other members, Stavrinakis asked County Attorney Joe Dawson to review the changes to job qualifications.
The county also is considering four firms — Quality Management International, Mason Tilman, MGT of America and Miller Consulting Inc. — for a disparity study of the county’s purchasing policies and procedures. Once those study results are in next year, council members could consider moving to quotas instead of goals.
The county also has hired Barrett Tolbert, who formerly worked with the city of Charleston, as its minority- and female-owned business coordinator.

Jenerette is far by the most conservative. Seems the TeaParty like a Constitutionalist!!! I like Tim Scott as well but he did go head to head fighting for a 1 cents raise on sales tax to pay for CARTA. I remember he and Joey Duan getting serious about the different sides. Joey was saying no and Tim was saying yes to the tax. I would just like to see someone cut the budget or move some existing money to make things work instead of trying to raise taxes. http://www.jenerette.com

I believe it is time to stop all the name calling and childish insults. We need to concentrate on putting someone in the U. S. House of Representatives that has the ideals and beliefs we have. We need someone who believes in the constitution, smaller government, and less taxes. We need new politicians who are not beholden to the “Good old Boy” political machine. I think that is Katherine Jenerette. She does not come from a family where politics is a career. She is a true veteran and a mother. She is a constitutionalist and believes in the second amendment. She wants to abolish the Department of Education. What more could you ask. Stop the personal attacks and challenge her on the issues. If her husband had raped his daughter he would be in jail. Tell me where you disagree with her policies and not the color of the dress she is wearing.

For her stands on the issues go to http://www.jenerette.com.

“What more could you ask (?)”…
I would ask that the candidate I vote for be the most qualified and experienced. Someone with good judgement, who won’t be constantly putting their foot in their mouth. One whose personal life is not a bizarre, Jerry Springer soap opera. Someone who won’t make our state the butt of jokes. Someone I could be proud of.

I may be naive and idealistic but even I know talking points are cheap.

Katherine Jenerette is the last person we need in Congress.

Hey Mt Pleasant Tom. Just what the hell is a “true veteran”. What is she, freakin Audi Murphy with a tampon. Now if you’re comparing her to Joe Wilson, then yeah, but then again my 10 year old granddaughter is more of a veteran than Addison. Don’t malign veterans by assigning categories. Leave that bullshit for the raving lunatic teabaggers.

Now that I’ve made so many friends and more than a few enemies I need to start visiting my constituents far and wide, kiss babies, wipe their noses and pat them on the head, shake hands with the Myrtle Beach Bikers and compliment Charleston tourists that keep their dog on a leash. Promise to build bridges to nowhere in Georgetown without a cent of taxpayer’s money and make as many long winded speeches as possible on any occasion.

Let’s see have I forgotten anything? Oh, complain about the weather and hurricanes and carry a map of the district to show the voters how South Carolina is really the center of the universe and the economic breadbasket of the entire state.

Come to think of it, I need to send Nancy Pelosi a copy of my map of the solar system with the planets and stars all rotating around a South Carolina Palmetto tree. It’s true!

    That’s all for now.

This has to be his comment. I can’t believe a real candidate would say something so nonsensical.

Let the man be drunk. He’s going to be getting sodomized by Bruno the 6’6″ 280 lb. armed robbererer and resident sodomite on D block.

As for veterans, look on the Democratic side – don’t know much about him, and not sure he’s qualified, but the kid out of Georgetown who runs a sports bar was airborne and that’s all there is on his website.

He served America, he didn’t whore his service out like K-J does like a cheap tramp whose had a bit to much mad dog.

P.S. – Audie Murphy with a tampon. Fucking hilarious.

How come I always give my name but the Katherine Jenerette haters — are they really all the same guy? — never give theirs. In far off PA, such people are known as cowards. (I think in SC they’re known as skunks.)

Friend of Katherine’s, friend of Van’s, friend of all heroes in uniform

Let’s see, Van was named to the Ft. Benning OCS Hall of Fame in 2002. Katherine was made a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve. And the military services of the Jenerette haters is ????? (known only to God?)

For heaven’s sake! If you don’t know why you give your name, we certainly can’t tell you!

Maybe it’s because you don’t condemn a sick and dangerous criminal so you have nothing to fear from that quarter.

Maybe you crave the attention of big haired “southern” woman with flirty eyes. Such creatures are rare in far off yankee PA. In South Carlina they’re everywhere.

Personally, I question why you think we need you to tell us how we should vote. Don’t they have elections up north for you to concern your self with?

Anyway, here’s a gift since I suspect you rarely if ever see your heroine in person.

She looked pretty good for leaving the field at Ft. Bragg – a quick change from uniform to civvies – driving to D.C and making comments on 4-hours of sleep.

I liked Katherine’s part about how the Republican Congress squandered the chance to address health care reform after Hillary Clinton set out the red flags in 1993 and 1994 – and the Republican Congress did nothing – that it was a train wreck happening with 79-million baby boomers getting ready to retire – and Republicans just left the train wreck happen.

That’s a Carolina girl I’d vote for; Pretty and tough.

First of all Barker before you go condemning someone please learn the correct spelling of the persons last night. May I be of assistance? Her name is Jenerette not Jenrette. And BTW I find such cowards that feel as if they must post such negative remarks about a candidate when I am sure you have no clue what the true facts are about Van. Unless you get your facts from the good ole boy network then believe as you may.
