Smokey Is Taking Pictures

By FITSNews || Courtesy of one of our good friends in law enforcement, we’ve got some free advice for South Carolina motorists …

“Don’t speed.”

Seriously.

With state and local governments all across the country angling to get their grubby paws on as much of your cash as possible, the word on the street is that there’s no such thing as a “warning” for speeding anymore.  Also, remember the once-sacred 10 mph “buffer zone?” Yeah … that’s apparently gone, too.

It’s all about the Benjamins, people, and if you drive over the speed limit, you’re going to get a ticket.  Well, unless you’ve got some sort of a back-up plan …

Also, we’re hearing that legislation in the works that would give law enforcement officers the right to issue “warnings” that come with a $150 fine – but that wouldn’t appear on your permanent driving record.

Hmmmm.  And guess what? The “warnings” would only be permitted for speeding violations of … wait for it … less than 10 mph over the limit.

So again … say goodbye to the “buffer zone.”

No legislation has been filed yet that we know of, but count on FITS to keep an eye on the situation …

When the total immunity from speed limits for semi drivers starts to wane, then I will know we are in real financial trouble.

Interstate should be changed to “toll” roads. Charge a fee to get a permit to drive as fast as you want to drive. Solves both “problems”. My complaint with semis is not that they go too fast, it is that they go too slow and block both interstate lanes.

    This is news?

Municipal law enforcement agencies have long done this.

They “do you a favor” by issuing you a no-points careless operation citation, telling you it costs twice as much, but won’t hit your insurance. The officer may not even be certified to run radar, so he/she couldn’t write a speeding ticket if they wanted to, but the average person doesn’t know the difference.

    Welcome to the police state.

If speed kills and is so bad, then why are cops allowed to speed in the process of pulling you for speeding?? They are above the law? I thought that driving faster than the speed limit was the problem. If so, the police are not subject to the same laws of physics that anti-speeding people spout? How can it be acceptable for a law enforcement officer to break the very law they are enforcing in the process of enforcing it??

I say do away with the speed limits and let everyone fend for themselves on major roadways and interstates. People in this state drive too damned slow and stupid as it is. It would not hurt to thin the herd. We need something that eats the slow and stupid ones anyway.
