McLeod To End Bid, Endorse Sheheen

By FITSNews || Charleston attorney Mullins McLeod will end his campaign for the S.C. Democratic gubernatorial nomination and endorse front-runner Vincent Sheheen, sources tell FITS.

Several S.C. political blogs were speculating Thursday evening that McLeod intends to challenge U.S. Senator Jim DeMint, but we are reliably informed that those reports are inaccurate.

McLeod has run an inventive campaign against long odds, raising decent money and impressing us with his knack for generating positive earned media coverage.  He’s also been one of the sharper stump speakers and Democratic debaters.

Obviously, those efforts haven’t translated into mass appeal, however, as McLeod – who had never run for office previously – was simply not sufficiently known around the state to register as more than a blip in the polls.

UPDATE: As expected, McLeod ended his campaign and endorsed Sheheen on Friday.  He added that he would not be seeking any elected office in 2010, squelching rumors of a possible campaign against U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint.

Bring it on. If he thought the Governor’s race was tough, Run against the only Senator in the state who stands for us. Yeah, that makes sense.

Demint sucks more corporate cock than pretty much anyone. Read his disclosures– more PAC money than he can count. He’s done nothing, stands for nothing, and is an intellectual midget.

Mullins could probably take him out. Quit your stupid worship of the king of douche-baggery Demint.

Actually your dog not only has more values, your
dog is smarter than Sen. Demint. It’s safe to
say that big Jim will keep on being safely re-
elected until some type of literacy test is
required to vote in SC. As far as I can that’s
the only prayer an opponent would have.

Demint is the worst senator in America. His whole political career is based around him being against things. He never is FOR anything. He’s a naysaying douche.

I applaud McLeod for his efforts and congratulate Sheheen for picking up the endorsement. Vincent is now the young energetic candidate on the Dem side. This endorsement will bode well for him in the primary.

McLeod ran a clean issues oriented campaign and will be a wonderful candidate for future office.

Wouldn’t get too fired up about his great campaign and future in SC politics.

How many average folks, I mean ‘normal’ people who don’t follow political chatter and blogs heard about him?

As for Demint’s constant “against things” stance in the Senate- that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a senator unil the day Pelosi, Clyburn, and Spratt et al leave the House…

What did Senator DeMint do in the two years he had when his party had control of Congress and the White House?
