Coming To A (Local) Newspaper Near You

By FITSNews || It’s probably been five years since we read anything published by the Aiken Standard – and so we honestly have no clue whether the paper is liberal, conservative or somewhere in between.

What we do know, however, is that a group of Aiken citizens recently attempted to publish a letter to the editor in the Standard that would have provided fiscal conservative rankings of local lawmakers – at least according to the recently-released S.C. Club for Growth scorecards.

The Standard refused to publish the letter, and so the citizens got together and scraped up enough money to place a full page ad in the paper.

If you’re keeping score at home, here were the grades for the Aiken area lawmakers …

Sen. Greg Ryberg (R) A+
Sen. Shane Massey (R) B
Rep. Tom Young (R) C+
Rep. Jim Stewart (R) C
Rep. Don Smith (RINO) D
Rep. Roland Smith (RINO) F
Rep. Bill Clyburn (D) F-

We know what you’re probably thinking … unless you’re a registered voter living in Aiken, who cares right?

Well, sources tell FITS that the Club is working with like-minded citizens in dozens of other towns across the state to get the word out about how their local lawmakers fared – which is obviously  a good thing.

The Club’s rankings are an annual reminder of just who the real fiscal conservatives are in state government – and sadly, you can count them without running out of fingers and toes.

In fact, of the 170 lawmakers in the S.C. House and State Senate, only fifteen earned “A” grades.

Meanwhile, key “Republican” leaders – including powerful Senate Finance Chairman Hugh Leatherman, Senate President Glenn McConnell, Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell and House Ways & Means Chairman Danny Cooper – all earned grades of ‘F’ or lower.

How did your lawmaker fare?

Ynotfirst – is your head completely in the sand? What’s failing is our state government. The state’s finances are a mess (see yesterday’s article in the The State: http://www.thestate.com/local/story/1162812.html), our education system is one of the worst in the nation, and our unemployment is sky high.

Thank goodness someone is trying to reform the broken system.

I’m glad someone is finally taking it to the supposed Republicans in South Carolina. They’ve screwed up state government almost to the point of no return. I appreciate these people speaking truth to power.

How many of the angry comments above come from “workers” in state government offices? Specifically, the people making over 100,000 tax dollars per year to sit around and run their bosses’ political campaigns.

    Food for thought.

In any grading system where Lee Bright and Joey Millwood get A’s and everyone else gets D’s and F’s – i’m going to have to assume the lower grade is better.

Ahhh. The noble R(H)INO. A strong beast with thick skin able to withstand small pricks from annoying insects and other mindless rhetoric.

Thankfully, the noble R(H)INO thrives. Its numbers are growing and it is a healthy species that will serve humanity well for generations to come.

On the other hand, the S.C. Club for Voucher Scams will eventually run out of scam money. “astroturf” organizations don’t usually last long.
