Chris Christie: “What That Guy Did”

By FITSNews || We’ve been meaning to write about this for a few days, but New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie – who was sworn in just last month – is already making some common sense fiscal decisions up in the Garden State.

In fact, he’s doing precisely what New Jersey voters told him to do: Cut government.

From WCBS TV 2:

Calling New Jersey’s budget a “shambles,” Gov. Chris Christie announced (last) Thursday he is immediately freezing all state spending.

Saying New Jersey is on the verge of bankruptcy, Christie declared a fiscal emergency, announcing drastic cuts. Among them, aid to school districts that have excess surpluses.

Nice … we knew there was something about this guy we liked.

Needless to say, Christie’s move has Democrats “in an uproar,” to which we can only say “too bad, so f*cking sad,” a phrase that isn’t used often enough when it comes to government entities.

Anyway, Christie’s decision has sparked some interest in South Carolina.

After all, our state’s eighty-five school districts that are collectively running a $714 million surplus on top of the record $8.4 billion (some say $9.1 billion) they are receiving this fiscal year.

UPDATE: Christie also cut state subsidies to New Jersey’s Transit Authority, saying it needed to become self-sufficient.  When transit officials bitched and moaned about it, Christie told them to revisit their “rich union contracts.” Nice!

I noticed that Pay-Go was brought back in Washington DC, just two weeks after discretionary spending was frozen. Next, entitlements and defense spending.

I won’t hold my breath on those two.

Nice to see a yankee with some sense…he has already done more in two months in office than any politico in recent memory, even if it is talking shit about the failed status quo of blue state government and economies.

Well, the school district’s need those surpluses to pay expenses when the taxes aren’t coming in.
    Don’t you know?
They aren’t surpluses, they are “fund balances.”
Try to get a superintendent to admit its cash in the bank is like pulling teeth from a saber tooth tiger.
