By FITSNews || As much as we wish the rumor about Facebook charging $3.95 a month for basic service beginning in July of this year were true … it’s not.
“We have no plans to charge users for Facebook’s basic services,” a company spokesman told the Telegraph UK. “Facebook is a free service for its 350 million users.”
Some claim the rumor may have been started by the social networking giant’s rivals. Others say that Facebook wanted to “test the waters” regarding a low-cost payment plan.
Who knows …
Anyway, why do we wish the rumor was true?
It’s simple browser math, people – the less time people spend Facebooking (and Myspacing and Tweeting), the more time they spend on other websites like (duh) this one.
But enough about us …

You need a third choice for your poll- the “I couldn’t care less because I don’t have time to play on Facebook” vote (I may be the only vote there, evidedently).
Hard to believe I know, but I manage to run two businesses, teach on the side, and enjoy family life without “poking” anyone, Tweeting, or doing whatever it is they do on MySpace these days…

Hey Mike you’re not alone.
I myself am an IT tech yet I couldn’t care any less about Facebook, Myspace, Tweeting, Texting or any of that crap.
I wouldn’t even carry a cell phone around with me if my job didn’t require it.
Amazing how mankind managed to survive for over 3000 years before any of that stuff was around ain’t it?

Slagging Facebook as a time-waster is so cliche. Building in slack time is important, no matter the pastime. Is productivity the only useful metric? Are we all meant to be automatons in service of capitalism?
