By FITSNews || For the second time in less than three months the East Coast was rocked by a powerful blizzard this weekend, a monster storm system that left up to thirty inches of snow on the ground in certain areas – and two people dead.
The heavy snowfall was accompanied by winds of up to 40 miles per hour, causing hundreds of thousands of power outages and paralyzing travel throughout the mid-Atlantic. Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. all reported receiving between one and two feet of snow.
Airports shut down and grocery stores – already preparing for the Super Bowl rush – were besieged.
The East Coast was hit by another blizzard back in December (also dubbed the “storm of the century”) while days later a separate system ravaged the Midwest.
Those storms were nothing compared to this monster, though, which dumped snow from Indiana all the way to New York City.
U.S. President Barack Obama, who braved the storm to give a speech to the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting, dubbed the storm “Snowmaggedon.”

I had no idea there were so many atmospheric physicists and climatologists around, almost every Republican, Libertarian, and Teabagger seems to be an expert now. The rest of us, in our naivety, find nothing strange or out of sorts or notable at all with it being cold . . . in early February. Heck, we even thought there was a basic conceptual difference between temperature and snowfall. But to follow the Teabagger neo-geophysicists, “Live and don’t learn.”
You know, the Liberty we seek is not supposed to be from reason, or common sense, or evidence, or truth.

When will idiots like LFM realize that weather processes do not obey artifical political ideologies? Freaking groundhogs know more about the weather than this political based prognosticator.
Fact is, winters are not going to be cancelled anytime soon, nor is a five year snowstorm proof that global warming has gone kaput.
Globally, 2010 was 5th warmest year in recorded history (WMO). Yes it snowed heavy in the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. And it’s also unseasonably hot in Perth, Australia and Banff, Canada right now.
People, get your science from the scientists, not from FITS news nor (sadly for the most part nowdays) the Republicans.

Here’s hoping that all the politicians in DC go into forced hibernation for a while. That would be a vast improvement for this country.

The US’s temp record is not doctored, say independent of any of your quoted misdeeds. I’ll refer you to
Lu, Q., R.B. Lund, and P.L. Seymour (2005). An Update of United States Temperature Trends, Journal of Climate, 18, 4906-4914.
for an analysis of the USA’s RAW (as written) data. There, they find that the average rate of increase of USA temperatures (over a thousand plus stations) is a little more than a degree per century….and that this is quite consistent with global trends.
While healthy skepticism is important, trying to prove that the earth did not warm over the last 100 years is like trying to prove that smoking does not cause lung cancer. Both are known to essentially the same statistical accuracy.
Let’s not cite bad scientists misdeeds in hopes of instilling confusion to better a political party. This tactic hardly advances truth and, ultimately, is the real hoax.
It would better us all to move to the pressing issue: what is causing the warming?

What is the point of it??..So the avg temp went up 1/3 of a degree in a century..(if it did).We wont have a world worth living in anyway if we don’t stop the destruction of Liberty in this country.If we had free markets I guarantee we would have a totally different energy ratio in 10 years…So instead of squawking about bogus bears and floods…try promoting freedom..Cleaner air and water would follow with efficiency.Not to mention an even better quality of life.

It’s winter and it’s cold. Therefore, global warming is a hoax. In the summer when people tell us to conserve water, it’s obviously a liberal communist plot to further the socialist agenda. I look out and see haze and when I go outside I sweat a lot. Therefore, there is plenty of water and nothing to see here. They keep talking about a Pacific garbage patch that’s so big. Well, everytime I look outside I never see it, so we don’t need to hear liberal environment protections. It ain’t there. The soft sigh from hell has gone back to the grave and we need to have a little more respect for the dead. Let’s all pray for the living and the return of free economics as described by Upton Sinclair in his book The Jungle that was written before all these stupid laws interfered with the free market and the poor, exploited industrialists. Unfettered capitalism will guarantee a worker’s paradise and no interference from the government and let’s have a return to the happy days before OSHA and those pesky labor laws.
