Wookie Want Jobs!
By FITSNews || Democratic gubernatorial candidate and liberal lobbyist Dwight Drake – who prior to his recent trip to the groomers was routinely mistaken for the Wookie Chewbacca (from Star Wars) – says he wants to create jobs in South Carolina by giving tax credits to companies that hire unemployed workers.
It’s basically the same idea proposed a year ago by “Republican” Majority Leader Harvey Peeler.
Under Drake’s (Peeler’s) “Back to Work Rebate Act,” Palmetto State companies that hire unemployed workers would receive a one-year rebate equal to the state income tax that they would otherwise be required to pay on the employee’s salary.
“We cannot afford to wait any longer to start fixing the problem of unemployment in this state,” Drake said. “We must tackle the problems of this state head on and not wait around for committees or studies. With some 270,000 men and women out of work, families across South Carolina are suffering. We need less talk and more results.”
Of course, if anybody actually thought this plan was going to move money out of government and into the private sector, think again, as Drake was quick to point out that his (Peeler’s) proposal would be “revenue neutral.”
Drake announced his (Peeler’s) plan at a press conference with Reps. Bakari Sellers (D – Bamberg) and Boyd Brown (D – Fairfield), who said that they would file legislation encompassing its particulars.
Wonder if Peeler will file a companion bill in the Senate?
South Carolina’s 12.6 percent unemployment rate is the fourth-highest in the nation, incidentally.

Actually it’s the old “JTPA” Jobs Training Partnership Act. A federal program that suceeded “CETA” Comprehensive Employment Training Act. Both were Federal/State Programs. The difference between the 2 programs is JTPA pumped money into the private sector and CETA pumped money into Government Jobs.

Will, you are out of line and are being completely unfair -
to wookies in general and Chewbacca in particular. Chewbacca was a loyal, steadfast companion to Han Solo. Dwight Drake would have sold him out to Darth Vader in the bat of an eye. Dwight IS the Dark Side.

In all seriousness Sic…I want to know what you find to be so liberal about Dwight Drake. I am by no means a supporter. He has represented some powerful interests that most South Carolina Democrats would find to be irreconcilable with the values of the Democratic Party, and appears to be trying to position himself as some kind of centrist with his rhetoric during the primary. It’s not just you though; all the blogs out there have described him as being “uber liberal” or something similar. Is it just that he identifies as a Democrat or is there something I don’t understand going on?

First things, first.
Stop TERI.
Terminate the double-dippers.

Hey Billy Bob, when Dwight the Duck found that idiot “Chapin Pawn” to file a lawsuit against the Governor – love him or hate him – pertaining to the state being required to accept Stimulus Funding (and grow a US deficit so large that that idiot “Chapin Pawn’s” kid’s kids will ironically be paying back), I determined him to not only be an “uber liberal” but also a worthless, POS, “uber liberal”. Got it!

Kevin,
That may make him a political opportunist but still don’t see what that has to do with him being an “uber liberal,” but ok.

Far be it from me to talk about a man’s looks, after all, I have yet to receive a call from Play Girl. Maybe the Will Meister and some of the other bloggers on here have, although I would think that issue would be dedicated to comedy. The fact is that there must be some apprehension in the Republican ranks about Drake because he seems to be the target every day. He came from humble roots and is a Viet Nam War veteran. He is extremely articulate and intelligent. If he is the Democrat nominee, let’s wait and see how he does one on one in a debate against the last man (or woman) standing on the Republican side. As I recall, we recently elected, then re elected, a very handsome man with a winning smile that promised to lead us into the Promised Land. We know the rest of that fairy tale.

BB, IMO, people that spend significantly beyond their means are irresponsible and soon to be bankrupt jerks. Worse though, those people that spend other people’s money beyond their means are irresponsible and soon to be bankrupt “uber liberal” jerks. Guess what though BB? – by my definition, many GOPers are “uber liberal” jerks. See how this bi-partisan thing works.

Although Dwight Drake’s campaign appears to take his candidacy very seriously I, and many other Dems, believe that this guy has represented MANY interests that DO NOT represent us.
Not sure how he thinks that this last minute pandering will win us over.
Dwight: I’M TOO SMART FOR THAT!…

Drakes campaign is to settle an old score with Vinny’s daddy. It is all personal. Dig deep, FITS, and you will find out that Drake and Rex both are running for petty reasons. Drake, because he hates a Sheheen. Rex, because Tennenbaum got his DNC delegate slot. Democrats had the best shot in years. But, their own petty rancor is going to hand the office to Foghorn Leghorn.

Calhoun Fawls, petty reasons or not, the Democrats did not have the best shot in years (- Sanford just ain’t that important!). After all, all the local Jacka$$es will have to account for the Socialist policies being thrust upon South Carolinians by their National cohorts. This year will be a cakewalk for the GOP.
