By FITSNews || Major General Bob Livingston will formally kick off his campaign to become South Carolina’s next Adjutant General on Thursday – an event which could feature a surprise endorsement from the current Adjutant General, Stan Spears.
Tomorrow’s announcement will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial on the S.C. State House grounds in downtown Columbia, S.C.
Livingston has been running hard for several months already, earning the support of the vast majority of National Guard officers and enlisted men in the process (i.e. the people who should frankly be making this decision to begin with). He also enjoys a sizable fund-raising advantage.
Facing such a credible challenge, Spears announced last week that he would not be seeking another term.
South Carolina is the only state in the nation that elects its Adjutants General, although the office falls under the governor’s authority during emergencies.
Several sources familiar with tomorrow’s event tell FITS that Spears will be endorsing Livingston, although that information could not be immediately confirmed.
