By FITSNews || Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning is poised to become the highest-paid player in National Football League history when he re-signs with the team during the 2010 off-season, ESPN is reporting.
Manning – whose current contract expires at the end of the season – could earn up to $20 million a year with a $50 million signing bonus.
That’s ridonkulous green, people, even more than the $99.2 million deal he signed in 2004 (which included a $34.5 million signing bonus). The final two seasons of that contract have been voided, however, because Manning met certain incentive conditions.
On top of his salary, Manning makes another $15-20 million a year in endorsements.
In addition to Manning, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be renegotiating his contract during the off-season, too.
Brady has led the Patriots to four Super Bowls, with three wins (and two Super Bowl MVP awards). Manning won the MVP award in the Colts’ Super Bowl XLI win – his only Super Bowl appearance prior to this year’s game.
